My wife has never really understood my video game hobby... hell, she always passive-aggressive brings up her distaste for it every now and then and it is -blam!-ing annoying. Well with Destiny coming out soon, I've been very hyped for the game these last few weeks. Been re-working my game room in my spare time to be prepared for the big day. Of course, my wife would give me crap, but I brushed it off as usual since hey, she is my wife and we can't share all the same interests. Well today, she finally got in my face and revealed she cancelled my pre-order, telling me that as an adult, I shouldn't be wasting my time with video games and that I have more important things to focus on. She also bitched about my improvements to the game room that I paid for with my OWN money I earned. I don't approve of hitting women but after this stupid BS with her today, I was close to smacking her!
Jesus, I need to chill out. I'm losing my cool right now. I've been excited for Destiny but it seems because my wife has to -blam!-ING CHANGE people when they don't meet her every -blam!-ing little expectation, I won't be able to enjoy 9/9. If I play my game then I have to deal with unleashing the beast the resides in my wife. I really feel like throwing her out the house at this point.

If she is going to those lengths for your attention (i.e. "more important things to focus on"--believe me) and you have a reaction like this (i.e. "I was close to smacking her", "I really feel like throwing her out the house"), then it means you probably aren't doing a good job of contributing to the relationship in her eyes. It's not your interest in video games that she finds immature, it's your willingness to focus on that more than the relationship that you basically swore an oath to uphold that has her thinking you are childish. Bungie isn't going to take care of you when you are in adult diapers 60 years from now. Make a better time investment and maybe she'd let this whole video game thing slide. My wife doesn't care for video games, but because I spend time figuring out what she wants and needs and acting on those, she doesn't give a flying -blam!- what I do with video games. I'm not saying that you are actually focusing more on games than your relationship. But I guarantee you that's what she was seeing when she decided to cancel the pre-order. Don't listen to idiots who say to get rid of her. Have some integrity, figure out what she's actually frustrated with and make a case for your entertainment. Compromise. No, I don't watch Oprah. I'm just a level 60 Jedi Husband Master and you are my padawan. *drops mic*
