(Skip to last paragraph for compromise itself)
Alright, so a lot of people (myself included) are annoyed that Raids require a full 6 man team. Now, just to let you know, I have 18 real life friends on Xbox, and none of them intended to get Destiny. I was still really excited for the game, and my enthusiasm persuaded two others to try the beta. Now, in light of this decision, I see myself being effectively gated off from the most exciting part of the game.
I am not going to ask that you fully abandon the concept of a hard-core raid. I love the idea. You can check my gamertag (Myth of Demons) and see that I have LASOed all the halos and have beaten both games of Dark Souls. I love a challenge. What I don't like are clans and arbitrary gates. I do not have 5 other people on Destiny and do not expect to find 3 others anytime soon.
What I propose is a matchmaking of Fireteams. A fire team, being 3 players, is half the requirement for a Raid. I must have two other players in the group (Forming a full, normal fireteam) we may then search for a second full fireteam. The two groups have their chat merged upon being connected, and you may set off that way. With this structure, you know half the team, which means in most cases, you will be talking. These two groups, both in chat, may become friends over the next couple hours, or may never play together again. But either way, they got to play the content. In this way, communication is facilitated and encouraged, but a smaller group is able to take part in the event.
wtf your dumb if you want mm
There can be no compromise, only MM. it provides the flexibility to add extra players to make up the numbers, and encourages people (who will all be lvl25 vets) to team up and talk, even send a friend request if they enjoy their game to team up again. Private matches need to stay as they are a must for people who want to try a solo run or with friends only. There is no chat, in game clan support and the tower only supports 16 players. Destiny lacks a lot of the so called "social" features for a social game that they are pushing for, which is another reason why the lack of MM is a daft decision.

2 RespuestasPlease take this under consideration... I completely understand why people and even devs of Destiny don't want matchmaking for raids; its hard to do without any communication. People don't want MM for this because they don't want randoms in their group. Please take a minute to think about this: If you've got the time to get your friends online, then by ALL means go ahead, dont cockblock those who want the matchmaking.... Let them struggle.... You want to make groups for yourself and your benifits, then DO IT!! Nobody is saying no, matchmaking is the OPTION!! Do you guys know what that means? OPTION? OPTION: the power or right of choosing. <- http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/option?s=t which means you can choose between making a team for yourself and going with randoms. NOBODY IS FORCING YOU TO GO WITH RANDOMS!!! its like saying I dont want to go swimming and you shouldn't either... act of being selfish [i could do this but you can't type of thing] [please don't hate, if you do ill take it as you don't understand wtf im saying] Thank you.

I take back the compromise not possible comment. Perhaps two forms of raid, Raid Classic and Raid Lite with lite being considerably less punishing, with matchmaking, considerably lower drop rates, and remove some of the rarest loot. Casual player get to experience the raid while hardcore players keep their "elite" identity.

Its better then what Bungie is planning. Unfortunately it still excludes the individual. It also creates a problem for groups of four or five players. I don't think there is a compromise as far as matchmaking is concerned, its either all or nothing. Any type of compromise is going to have its problems. I think we just have to accept that Bungie has decided to exclude gamers that don't meet there idea of a dedicated gamer. Perhaps they will rethink this down the road when two thirds of the game's population aren't participating, assuming the polls for matchmaking are any indication of how many will be able to raid. It will be interesting to see how quickly their position changes if they decide on releasing any raid dlc.

This idea. I like it.

Would it be feasible to take this idea a step further and require a fire team to start the raid and then include matchmaking for the other 3? Drop everybody into the same chat with the fire team leader able to kick as needed? Just trying to think of ways to accommodate those that cant/won't find others...

2 RespuestasIf the Raids are so hard and Bungie knows this, that we have to have 5 Pro friends then what is the point. Everything in Destiny needs to be able to be done by everyone. Bungie said its a world/game that everyone can enjoy. Raids can not and should not be so hard that only a few people, maybe 10%, can enjoy all aspects.

Great idea
-
7 RespuestasMany other games with raids have a group finders. Why not for Destiny? The mission statement of Destiny being a game everyone is suppose to be able to enjoy and play is defied by limited raids and social tools. This is hypocrisy at it finest.
-
Bump. Seems like a decent compromise.

3 RespuestasThere will be no compromise!

5 RespuestasI'm with mm raiding but it needs to be different from normal raiding... 1: Needs to be shorter and easier since the reason people want it is because they don't have enough time to make a raiding group. 2: The armor / weapons earned needs to be weaker compared to normal raiding weapons / armor. 3: The weapons / armor need to look different so that people can distinguish normal raiders from mm raiders.
-
Why the continual insistence on random matchmaking? Just ask for a browse-able group finder. Way more functionality for more than just finding people to raid with.
-
sadly this would only work for people that have friends that play this game or even video games in general and before anyone say just go to the tower and find some, well that is a problem to. People don't want randoms(people they don't know) in their game. Found this out real quick in other games. Which could take someone several real time hours to find people willing to play. then you have to worry about those players bailing on you while your try to find others or the first wipe. People want to play the game not waste hours on end trying to find people to play the game with and with the crappy communication system we have atm well that will make it harder Options are always a good thing if done right.

I believed that there should be non raid content for up to 6 people. The content playable with 1 fire team but becoming a more difficult and complex with 2 teams. I never thought of applying that to this problem though. This idea is practically a piece of art... nicely done!
-
2 RespuestasOne problem.. what happens to the people with one friend on, or none? No two fireteams.. that would require random non group people. Unless you're saying make the requirement to enter be a 3 person team instead of 6, and let machmaking find another three. Even so, the solo people would have the same issue as everyone else does currently.
-
I really, really like your idea. I hope Bungie is listening.
-
this is the best compromise I've read. it's simple, not hard to pull off (this late in development), and also benefits the community by fostering the development of a group. add in that a full raids ready group can enter without the mm taking place and you've got a winner
-
This is actually the first realistic compromise I've seen about the MM in raids all day! I actually would play MM if this were the case! Great thinking!
-
Nice and neat and outside the box. Outstanding.
-
+1! Great thinking!

I think that is fair. It would dramatically lessen the chance of trolls or early quitters.

I have no friends. What about me man
