•
seems like nothing but bad news for xbox lately.
This is only the case because Xbox and MS had the nerve to reveal first. Sony will have a lot of the same features and backlash. Remember it's the publishers and developers that wanted to out preowned games.

 • what is this? I don't even....PS4 REVEALED A WHOLE MONTH BEFORE XBOX! With that out of the way, please, get everything straight before posting something on these forums. We can and will confirm or bust it.

 • He's talking about the features. The "cable box" as so many seem to call it. The source of the Xbox hate lately. He theorizes, and I agree, that PS4 will have many of the same features but since they haven't revealed it no backlash about it...

 • I somehow doubt that it will. Sony has remained very focused on the fact that their system is built to play games. If you go back to watch the Sony reveal, nearly everything revealed, like the tech, comes with a mention on how it improves your gaming experience. I seriously don't think Sony will do anything as stupid as turn the PS4 into a Cable Box.

 • I don't. Sony and Microsoft both underestimated the Wii. And both tried to do something about it later. Microsoft clearly wants it to be a family box as well as a gamer box. I find it ironic, because a few years ago the 360 was criticized as a shooter box good for nothing else, and now that it expands its criticized for not being good for gamers.

 • Being a shooter focused console and being a family entertainment system are two opposite ends of the spectrum. One is too focused and the other isn't focused enough? What do you mean by "Underestimating the Wii"? Nintendo is dying because the Wii sucks and there aren't enough people buying it to make Nintendo profit. The Wii U flopped hard.

 • The Wii is now dying, however earlier it made a killing. Microsoft and Sony both (Well, this I assume is how it went) scoffed when Nintendo gave the world motion controllers, as did many "hardcore" gamers everywhere. However that idea was so successful that both Microsoft and Sony ripped it off, and that's fact (Although I think the Kinect is a better idea, odd to not use a prop for some things but it scales over time better). The Wii U is indeed a terrible flop. The Xbox has never been a shooter box, that was people criticizing it because it had a number of shooters, and much of the community liked that kind of gameplay. Now people criticize it for having family oriented features. How is any less useful for the "hardcore" gamer than the PS4 I don't know. Early in the "Console wars" of the previous / current generation, Microsoft owned the "hardcore" crowd with exclusives, and a cheaper price. The Wii owned the family oriented market. Microsoft is going in for the kill now that Nintendo dropped the ball, Sony would too if the Move was any better than the Wii. Because of that, Microsoft might loose some ground with the "hardcore" crowd, but its a sound strategic move. They will have a large presence in both markets.

 • Thats sound thinking, I will admit, but the fall off from the hardcore crowd will be very sharp if their system can't compete with its exclusives. Gears of War:The Prequel AND Halo 4 have both flopped. People are tired of paying for their right to play online, and in general if Xbox doesn't really step up their game, they will become the next Nintendo. Microsoft will go back to exclusively supporting PC, because they won't have the crowd to keep up the Xbox. I WAS a huge supporter of the Xbox, but paying 60-120 dollars per year just so I could play with my friends got old fast. Do the math on how much money you will save over 10 years playing Destiny by switching. The service might not be as good playstation side, but I won't be throwing away 1200 bucks for good customer support. This doesn't even factor in the cost of your Xbox breaking every few years because Xbox can't keep their system cool.

 • Truthfully, $60 a year isn't bad. I haven't played on the PSN, but I hear from friends it isn't as stable as Xbox live, and that's important to me. And my friends are on Xbox, otherwise I would probably move to PC gaming (although PC gamers get screwed in hundreds of ways, the least of which is console exclusives). I wanted to get Minecraft for the computer so I could play with mods, but as I knew none of my friends would get it and things would get lonely fast. I settled for the Xbox version for that alone. As far as the "hardcore" crowd goes, I think most are being scared kids. I've heard bad rumors about the next Xbox, blocking used games, always online, etc. But I don't recall any of those being announced as fact yet. I get people might not care about sports channels or cable working with their Xbox, but I don't see how that retracts from their experience, it just adds to others. This is, in my opinion, one of those "chill out and wait" moments. No way the Xbox will ship, and the same day they will say, "Oh by the way, everything will be digital distribution only, and requiring a constant internet connection at all times." Its also nice to have a long drawn out conversation with truly opposing points without fire. I've had a lot of hostile experiences on gaming forums.

 • $60 a year might not seem bad, but to me its an unnecessary cost that adds up. On the PSN side of things, the stability issues are almost nonexistant really. The last really bad time was when Hackers Anonymous shutdown everything for a while. That was Sony's fault, but it wasn't because they just let everything fall to pieces. Their servers are pretty good. As for the rumors, I'm fairly sure that you HAVE to download the game to play it, and it isn't even backwards compatible. Kotaku sums up perfectly my feelings of the new Xbox One

 • The 360 isn't natively backwards compatible either. They added emulation. I will be surprised if they don't do the same for the Xbox One.

 • my standard 360 came with the ability to play the first two halos since I've had it...since like almost 4-5 years ago. I might have missed that though. However, backwards compatibility wouldn't even be a huge issue if some people (read half of all gamers) didn't have huge libraries of games they saved from Microsoft keeping the 360 going for 8 years. There were guys in the comments complaining that after the release their 120+ games would become pretty much trash if their 360 broke down.

 • You needed to download an update for most games to use the emulation which was built into the 360 at launch (I think, might have just been a system update very early). Some games already had that update downloaded at launch (or at default when the emulation update went through) such as the Halo's. I agree I will be mad if my fairly substantial video game archive becomes worthless. I still play some old xbox games! Like I said, Microsoft will probably add it at some point. They might not, but I'm pretty sure with the outcry they will add it later if not before launch.
