The difference between then & now, they only had destiny back then, they needed destiny to succeed to keep them in the game. Now, they've 3-4 other titles being made, all with bigger teams, all with bigger budget, all with deadlines to hit. Even if they wanted too, they can't fix it, there's no staff, so we'll see minimum product & empty promises.
They're also now owned by Sony, who have stated they've no interest in this game, just like Activision was, Sony don't care about 10yr old free games with expansions, it's new games & new IPs, that bring in money & new players.
Destiny has a template since beyond light, n it'll never change going forward, infarct I'm reading leaks that
[spoiler] seasons are being dumbed down after FS, cod style battle passes with no activity or story, just cosmetics & materials, & they're taking a while year off destiny to get marathon released so nothing in 2025[/spoiler]

Please link where Sony said they don't care about destiny.... if a company pays that much they def care about their investment and want a return out of it.

Read several articles over the year, wouldn't know where to start. Sony have no input into bungies 'current or old games', they're interested in the future & bungie helping them make their 12 live service games, they paid 2.2m for bungie & 1.4b on staff incentives. I forget the wording but bungie kept full control of the gaming side & all its decisions. Destiny as a game doesn't make huge amounts of money, this was in the Microsoft Vs FTC court case, ms looked at buying bungie but decided not to because they have a high burn rate, aka spending a lot more than you have coming in, hence the constant push for investors. Bungie made 300m in 2022, they've 2000 staff, 2 studios, & are building 3 other games minimum, basic Devs wages in Seattle are 130k a year. For context Warframe has 70 staff & made 280m, cod mobile has 20 Devs & made 1.6b. Destiny is successful but not nearly as much as people think profit wise & right now bungie make nothing, that'll change when matter & marathon release,but that's where the money is, not destiny.
