*Cue flood of down votes*
It's like none of you have ever listened to music with 8 string guitars before. Mick Gordon is a talented writer and composer, I'll certainly give him that, but if you've listened to any derivative of progressive metalcore / deathcore / djent over I don't know, the last decade or so, the song is nothing to be in awe about and is actually pretty generic. I had pretty much ignored the song for quite some time despite the constant fanboy'ing for it all over anything online, finally listened to it a couple months back and I don't get the appeal.
Maybe in context of gameplay where / when you'd hear the track, the two compliment each other well and somehow makes the song better, but a "good" song stands tall enough on its own. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Go listen to Meshuggah
Edit: imagine not understanding the concept of something being "overrated". Lmao. I shouldn't have to explain this, but I'm not saying you shouldn't or can't like the song, nor am I saying my opinion = fact. The -blam!-? 🤣

Indeed, I concur!
...finally listened to it a couple months back and I don't get the appeal.
Creepy Google put this in my YT feed, it makes the song worthwhile, at least for the runtime of the vid. I'm with ya' on the overrated part, but then I'm willing to bet a lot of the "metal fans" here never listened to much outside of mainstream or high ranking algo-driven YT anyway.

8 Respuestas100% agree. It's aight and has it's purpose every now and then but there are so many more d word genre songs better than Rip and Tear. To be honest tho, the d word genre is so played out and the only band I see keeping it alive or fresh bands like Spiritbox and Arch Echo (who aren't even really d word, just better than al other d word bands currently)

I do like rip and tear but it is massively overrated it's good music to listen to when playing doom but not good music outside of playing doom
-
Meh, at least you weren’t a COD fanboy back in 2016. And posted a post on Offtopic claiming that Doom sucked. Cue massive downvotes.
…yes, I was that bad back then. Feel like I mellowed out a bit; enjoyed Doom 2016 and Eternal once they got onto Game Pass. That being said, can agree. Then again, that type of music isn’t for me. XD
40 RespuestasI think it’s perfectly rated, and people say it’s overrated just because they like to sound quirky.

3 RespuestasEditado por Cultmeister: 9/21/2021 4:13:47 PMIt’s refreshing to hear some actual metal in a popular video game soundtrack, and I can definitely see it making more of an impact while playing, but I agree. I’m not really a fan of the various ‘cores’ in metal anyway, but it does have a distinct blandness to it and a sort of ‘space’ where something seems missing; perhaps because it’s done as a soundtrack to complement gameplay rather than as something to listen to on its own? Or perhaps it’s the electronic-y bits that give the sound more of a mainstream feel? Vocals might help it? Either way I’m happy with my blackened doom playlist for PFSs. Coffinworm > DOOM ost
