No, it made too much sense and allowed for a good amount of player choice... I don't understand why it was scrapped to begin with, it was simple enough yet allowed for a large amount of customizability.

  • Posts like this lets me know a lot of people dont really remember d1. I say that cause you say it allowed for a good amount of player choice and a large amount of customization, yet, the majority of players ran the same setups, just like in d2. Once a setup was found out to work for an activity, that was the 'preferred' setup for said activity that people would 'encourage' you to run, just like in d2. I say that to say: even if they brought back d1 subclass setups (which i prefer they didnt, i like the cluster system better, just wish we could make our own cluster), majority of people would still run the same shit.

  • "it didn't allow customization because people only used a few setups" Please define customization for me.

Although I didn't say that, there is no need to, cause my point doesn't change. Yes, you could run different setups, but the majority didn't is the point. Bungie noticed this and all they did was combine a lot of the perks, and make it easier for people to get to playing. You can still customize in many ways, but just like in d1, people choose not to. It really sounds like people want the options there just so they can be there, but that doesn't mean they will use them. An example of that: the forges. The majority had stopped playing the forges, so bungie combined them, limit it to 1 a day so match making is better for people that still do them. What happens? People are now asking for them to be separate again just cause. Lol no. That's not something that improves the game, it's just people asking for shit just cause.

  • Because a large majority of choices weren't actual choices because they were too situational or were just plain outclassed by meta options regardless of balancing. That and Bungie wanted to make D2 a competitive viable game. Hence the removal of random rolls, armor with no perks, all base maps being made for 4v4, etc. By forcing specific clusters you always had a good idea of what kind of hunter/warlock/titan you were going up against. It in theory also allowed you to balance easier since you'd only have to tackle specific clusters instead of having to worry how a balance change might indirectly buff or nerf another cluster.

  • one of the devs that dont play this game, decided that the subclasses were too difficult to figure out and couldnt make a good build, decided to change the system to make it more simple. i think they mentioned it in one of their vidocs for d2 before it launched

Because they wanted an E-sport and stupidly though destiny could be one so they gimped any player choice and curated everything to be "balanced" from an E-sports point of view. -blam!- E-sports btw.

  • It was "too difficult" to understand so they dumbed it down for d2

  • well obviously i've figured that out but honestly, i suppose "I don't know why it was scrapped to begin with" could be the motto for every shortcoming of D2 haha.
