An argument that I see more often (which is similar to the one you proposed) is "The government has drones and tanks and heavy weaponry that make your guns obsolete so you should just hand them over." Like what's the point in handing them over if they wouldn't help us in combat? And another problem with that is you can't control streets or sweep buildings with tanks or drones (I guess you can with drones if they're small). You'll still need real people with conventional weapons to maintain control of those streets and to secure those buildings.
