Minus nostalgia, I didn't like VOG

Before you become a keyboard warrior, hear me out. I do not hate the Vault of Glass. I really like it. But not that I look back, there were a ton of problems. Sync Plates Pros -Well... people could join in on patrol, I guess. Cons -Dear god when is the spire gonna form? You didn't have too much of a way to check your progress. -The plates were so far apart that teamwork between plates really only happened when the middle shot a harpy on the right or something. Comparisons: Honestly, the first Vosik encounter is a lot more dynamic and engaging, and is a reasonable difficulty. Confluxes and Oracles Cons -Dear god. One person dies and sht hits the fan. The templar is trying to -blam!- one person the whole time. The best strategy for the legions was to literally hide in a hole. Hobgoblins are trying to send bullets into your skull all over (was it hobgoblins during this part? Can't remember.) -And oracles? Let me just say two things. "Is it over yet?" And "let's camp with icebreaker"<- literally the most boring times I've ever had in a raid. Pros -I guess the atmosphere is cool, and that it was a challenge. But there is so. much. waiting. Gorgon's maze, and the things before it Cons The things before it... endless falling -Gorgon's maze went a few ways ways. You try a few/ one time(s) and get it, you try about 20+ times and get it, or one person literally pulls through while your team sits in orbit. This is not a fun encounter if you can't do it. Comparisons: -Server farm??? Dunno. But if you compare the two, Server farm's pretty much a walk through this room and kill stuff (worse). Pros BLESS THE CHEST Gatekeeper Cons -"Cleanse me!" *falls off map* -Hey look, literally camp at a portal while minotaurs come through. -Another conflux to defend by the way Pros I guess having two aegises was nice. Atheon The big guy. Cons: -Oracles everywhere. Not too much of a problem with a good team, but honestly, a good team will go through 10x faster. -When you don't get teleported ever -When one person always gets the aegis Pros: The scenery is nice Comparisons: Compared to aksis, Aksis is much more challenging. Also, more people can be included in relics. And that wraps up my two cents. I know that Vault of Glass is an older raid compared to WOTM which Bungie definitely had time to improve off of VOG, but saying that VOG is a better raid while not considering anything else is dumb. You are blinded by nostalgia. I'm not saying you can't like it. If it's your favorite, go ahead. I can see why you like it. But you cannot flat out say it's better while Wrath of the Machine sucks.

  • Yeah imma stop you at the sync plates thing, because you seem a bit lost. The spire is forming in the back, you can clearly watch it go up. Don't let the Vex take the plates or you'll lose progress. It's literally that simple.

  • If not for the Vault of Glass, I would have quit playing Destiny in 2015. Curse you VoG. To this day, it remains the best content Destiny has offered. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. That said, your opinion on this subject is wrong.

  • It sounds like you were just abysmal at the raid lol. I actually laughed when I read your first con as anyone who's done vog many times knows you can literally look at the tower to see your progress XD and the plates being far apart.... You kill a few ads and a Minotaur every what minute or 40 seconds..... Really not a challenge them or now. Everything sounds like you played the easy strats so voluntarily tossing some challenge out the window, don't complain it's boring when YOU DID IT THE BORING WAY XD. Any one who was a hardcore pve player right off the get go in this game is laughing at your cons. Not able to get through the maze so one person does it while people sit in orbit.... Couple things wrong there, a minimum of 3 people need to be present in the activity for you to even be able to pass the maze, and again you've opted for the easy way lol. Jesus the stupidity of this post made my day

Vault of Glass is my favorite. And a lot of other people's favorite. I don't think WoTM is bad, I like it but I like VoG more. Claiming people to be blinded by nostalgia is inconsiderate. You also seemed to take the easy route for some of the encounters, which removes some challenge from it. Cheers
Sync Plates Cons -Dear god when is the spire gonna form? You didn't have too much of a way to check your progress.
Try looking at the big gigantic spire forming behind you.
-The plates were so far apart that teamwork between plates really only happened when the middle shot a harpy on the right or something.
Once the spire starts forming you no longer have to stand on the plates anymore meaning you're free to run around and spawn camp the enemies together.
Comparisons: Honestly, the first Vosik encounter is a lot more dynamic and engaging, and is a reasonable difficulty.
All it is is running, throwing balls, and shooting a boss that gets infinitely stumbled. There's not much to it either.
Well you ruined it for yourself by cheesing both of these parts. The legions phase is an amazing orb farm and was very fun for voidwalkers at the time, if you actually stayed on fought everything as they walked up the steps. The oracles was a test to separate the men from the boys. In a lot of groups, there would usually be one or two people that would carry and destroy most of the oracles. As the rounds progress the lesser players usually died which let the good players shine. I assume this is why you didn't like the oracles. Also, hobgoblins would never hit you if you were always on the move, that's the entire point of the encounter, was to never stop and destroy all the oracles from around the map. But again you ruined it for yourself by camping up top.
The endless falling just adds to the scenery and most players would agree that they appreciate this section. Any good leader can lead a team of newbies through the maze on their first try. Once again you ruined it for yourself. You complain about the raid but you only seem to play half of it.
Gatekeeper Cons -"Cleanse me!" *falls off map* -Hey look, literally camp at a portal while minotaurs come through. -Another conflux to defend by the way Pros I guess having two aegises was nice.
Another section that separates the men from the boys. Two good players could do this part for your entire team.
The only challenging part about Aksis is playing with morons. It only takes one moron to screw up their part to ruin it for everyone else. That just ruins the entire thing for me. The guy doesn't even shoot back, he literally sits there for thirty seconds and lets you shoot at him. Such mechanics. Much difficulty. Wow. The Vosik fight was done the same way everytime. Complete the three phases, throw balls, meet in middle, point and shoot. And that's really the only way you can do it. The Templar fight has multiple strategies; fighting up top (the lame way), group up and don't worry about oracles (another lame way), spread out and destroy all the oracles, block all teleports (the real man way). You had the freedom to choose and move around where ever you want. At Vosik if you didn't stand at the back you'd have someone whine about going up too far. I liked VoG the best because you only needed one good buddy and you could carry an entire LFG team on your own, without relying on moron teammates that would cause entire team wipes in other raids. If one person died I wouldn't have to jump off the edge.

          • Wrath of the machine is such a boring raid. It's literally based around chucking some balls. Every fight is repetitive. I'd rather do Crota

          • Plates: there is teamwork. Tell middle people a minotaur is coming, and help shot it down. Whichever team got the least busy plate usually helped their teammate on the next plate. No teamwork between far left and far right. Confluxes: you learnt to move *all the time* and avoid the hobgoblins snipes thus. Gorgons: the endless fall was to give you the feeling you were really really so deep inside venus. Worked for me. Nice trip every time. Gatekeeper: several possible strategies (get both aegis simultaneously, get one then get back and defend, or get one drop it back, go to get the other one) loads of fun. Atheon: well, if you let the same person handle the aegis each time it's not fun. Also fun shooting a rocket launcher without dying, or getting to the platform half blind so you could get cleansed. The only CON I ever had with VOG was the bugs. Those times when you didn't get any ammo at all, or the teleports glitched, etc.

          • 1.) VoG was definitely my favorite, for mechanics and rewards 2.) WotM mostly for cool mechanics but no one ever wants to play so I have only 1 completion 3.) Crota, fun to solo and Abyss defiant 4.) KF I would rank it lower if I could it sucks it takes forever and I personally hate it

          • Vault of Glass was good for Destiny's first raid and was a solid opening activity for the raids. However, looking back it is easy to see the Vault fondly due to memories made there. I could do that too. It was the activity that introduced me to two of my best console-pals. The Vault was great for it's time, but that does not stand to reason to claim that its obvious faults are just a polish. There are a plethora of issues with all of the raids and each one is great in their own aspect. Also, Luke Smith was the creative-director for the raid team that designed the Vault of Glass and King's Fall. Not sure if he was in-charge of Wrath of the Machine though, what with Destiny 2 production happening. I think he led the team well with those two raids.

            • Most groups that cant get through the gorgons maze are just full of idiots that think they know how to do it better than the guy telling them how to actually do it, ive timed it on normal and hard and normal literally takes 8 seconds from spawning in to get to the hole, and hard takes 14 seconds, and neither ways require jumping on that stupid -blam!-ing rock everyone thinks is a great idea.

              • It all comes down to teamwork I believe as far as time and success go for a raid. You can have very over level people just barely getting by because they spend more time running around like a chicken with their head cut off, or you can have a group of under leveled but very cohesive players who can get it done just as well. Just my thoughts.

The only thing I didn't like about VoG was fighting wave after wave of Vex before the Templar. I felt that dragged on way longer than it needed to. Everything else though was pretty exceptional, especially since it was the very first raid (and thus a proof of concept). If I were to rank the raids it would be (2nd and 3rd could easily be flipped though): 1) King's Fall 2) Vault of Glass (partly due to nostalgia and because it was the first) 3) Wrath of the Machine 4) Crota's End

                • I really do believe that if VoG was at top difficulty now most people would struggle. It was a tough raid that was full of bugs, they'd have to fix everything and don't think they wanna put that much effort into this game now.

                • You can see the progress of the sync plates by looking at the giant -blam!-ing tower in the middle of the area. How have you possibly missed that it's enormous? You know when Oracles will be done because of the number of tones it gives you at the beginning of the phase. The gorgon part is probably the best part of the entire raid. Saying 'it is bad because some people are horrible at video games' is just silly. I've literally never once been in a party where there was even a single person who just couldn't get it. Not even one. That seems ridiculous to me. For the gatekeeper and Atheon, none of your 'cons' are actually cons.
