Last time, on my post that nobody probably saw, I explained that the ahamkara were alive and listed some reasons why they might be the nine with some comparisons to classic European dragons, and logic relating to Xur. In the final part of this two part theory/hypothesis/idea/Cumulative Lore Post, we will discuss other reasons why the nine are some of the last ahamkara, and, what they might want to do in the future...
Okay, so to start off, we'll talk about Xur. One of the many dialogues that he can speak to you is:
"There are no birds where I come from, the things that fly are like shadows."
So Xur is from somewhere where things fly. Big deal, right? Actually, no. No enemies or allies have shown the ability of true flight, not gliding or hovering, or at the very least very few, so this definitely suggests that there are Ahamkara where he is from, since dragons can fly. Also it would make sense if Ahamkara flew silently because, well, they are space dragons! They wouldn't fly loudly!
However, the strongest indicators of all of Xur's dialogue for the nine being ahamkara are these speech strings:
"My movements are not fully under my own control..is it different for you?"
"I do not fully control my movements."
"My will is not my own."
This is, as Redditor A_Cryptarch said it best:
"Three different quotes on the fact that Xur is not in control of his own faculties. Bungie is literally screaming this fact to you."
"So titan", you may ask, "Xur is definitely not in control, but then, who is? How are they able to do this to him? Well, let me introduce you to Ghost Fragment: Warlock, which reads:
Think of how mysterious this system is, I said. How much life sprang up when the Traveler came. Like the Ahamkara. Do you know the legends? The dragon that made promises? And I pulled out the fossil with a flourish -
She pulled out her knife and started to pick the dirt from her nails. That set me off.
You could never have brought down one of these, I said. Ever. Not the greatest Hunter, not the brawniest Titan.
Her eyes narrowed. She said, Oh? Is that so? And I saw right then that she wasn't going to pass on the challenge.
I've murdered a Guardian, I thought. She's going to die. It'll be my fault.
And I looked at the piece of spine in my hand and wondered - why did I say that? What moved me to such pride?
The warlock clearly did not know why he said that to the hunter, but I think I know why, and hear me out here: the bone inspired him. Now, this might sound weird, but the Ahamkara do have this influence. You know the Ahamkara bone armors? The young ahamkara spine and skull of dire Ahamkara? Those flavor texts aren't flavor texts. The bones are SPEAKING to you. In fact, the Sealed Ahamkara Grasps grimoire card reads:
Plating the Ahamkara bones in silver helps to quiet the auditory hallucinations...oh bearer mine.
This implies that the bones cause auditory hallucinations.
As well as the Skull of Dire Ahamkara, which reads:
Reality is the finest flesh, oh bearer mine. And are you not…hungry?
As well as the Young Ahamkara Spine:
Give me your arm, oh bearer mine. Let me help you fill the world with teeth.
Notice the bones are saying: Oh bearer mine. This implies that the bones are speaking to the guardian, since the bearer of the armor is, well, the guardian!
So if we link the mental influence and "hallucinations" of the ahamkara bones, the control that a living ahamkara could have over someone is... staggering. Think about it. The ahamkara had influence on other living beings. As BONES. Literally speaking from the grave. Combined with the amount of exposure Xur gets to the nine, and its not surprising that they could have total control over his movements.
In fact, a big theory out there is that the ahamkara simply CREATED Xur! It would explain why he's able to manifest anywhere in the tower and reef, and nobody is able to stop him...
I hope you enjoyed this, again, suuuper long post. I hope it wasn't too much so, though.
I spent a lot of time crafting this one and thought it turned out well, so feel free to leave thoughts, criticism, and feedback down in the comments below!
Titan, out.
EDIT: Wow! Thank you for the comments! Part one is in the link above if anyone wants to check it out. It has some good evidence and comparisons that you may not have seen before.

3 RespuestasExcellent post. It took me a moment to realize what you were using as evidence in that card description, but it jumps right out at you when you finally realize it. I feel like that phrase may be key to how they initiate their control. I love the fact that Destinys lore is shrouded in mystery, but can still be pieced together through item descriptions and grimore cards. In many ways, it reminds me of how Dark Souls tells its story.
