I started a warlock recently and was playing in crucible and only had access to a green pulse rifle and it did nearly as good as my exotic pulse rifles ( not better just close to the same)

That's because Crucible balances out the damage. So if you have a pulse rifle with decent stability and impact, then in Crucible it doesn't really matter whether it's green / blue / purple / gold. At that point, the only difference are the perks in general. Like 3rd eye or whatever.
