This Week at Bungie – 06/30/2016

Jun 30, 2016 - DeeJ

This week at Bungie we’re lurking in a grey area.

Somewhere between the Darkness and the Light is where you’ll find us. We’re working to honor your past, sustain your present, and build your future. There are projects we revealed weeks ago, an event that will celebrate all of you next week, and constructs of action and adventure that we’ll share with you in the months (and even years) to come.

Destiny is a journey, but all journeys have moments that are marked by anticipation more than action. Right now? You could say that we’re dark. We have no news to share. But the live game is very much alight.

Our studio is far from quiet. We’re planning your next glimpse into what awaits you this Fall in Rise of Iron. We’ll make some interesting stops on the road to launch. Our own studio will also be a destination for esteemed guests who will experience the mysteries you’re eager to solve. You'll hear about it from them. Many voices will be invited into the conversation about your next adventure. On September 20th, so will yours.

Right this moment, if you’re eager to know more about how you can serve in the ranks of Lord Saladin, he’s in the Tower. Iron Banner is in full swing. After a Hot Fix and some unplanned maintenance, we’re hoping for smooth sailing throughout the weekend.

There will come a day when you’re invited to learn more about how you can truly become an Iron Lord. Today, you’re invited to train for that moment. These Fireteams, like their own personal wolf packs, are on the prowl to help you discover your full potential.

Right this very moment, Guardians are fighting on Earth and beyond. Join them. If you want to know what we have in store for your future, we’ll ask you to give us a little more time for that future to arrive. This summer will be awesome. But awesome takes planning, with a little patience and time.

The Watchtower

Millions of Guardians. Four separate platforms. Monitoring performance for Destiny isn’t a job for the faint of heart. Thankfully, Destiny Player Support and their partners in our Destiny Operations Center have nerves of steel.

DPS: Since the release of our Guided Support for Destiny on Legacy Consoles, we’ve received questions on the #Help forum concerning the future of Destiny on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Here are some answers to our top inquiries:
  • Legacy Consoles will no longer receive major Destiny updates or content releases.
  • Destiny: Rise of Iron will only be available to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.
  • Destiny Events and Activity Availability will be changing for Legacy Consoles in August 2016.
    • Some events, such as Trials of Osiris or Iron Banner, will no longer be available on Legacy Consoles.
  • Silver Purchases will no longer be available to Legacy Consoles in August 2016.
    • Players may still purchase items from Eververse Trading Co. with previously owned Silver on Legacy Consoles.

If you have any questions or concerns about Legacy Consoles, please see our Legacy Console Guided Support on help.bungie.net. Additionally, see the Legacy Consoles Vital Information thread in the #Help forum, where we have Destiny Player Support on standby to assist.

This week, we’ve been investigating player reports of an issue causing “Connecting to Destiny Servers” messaging to appear when launching into Orbit, launching into Activity, or attempting to transfer gear between characters. To ensure this issue did not impact the Iron Banner event, we conducted Server Maintenance from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM PDT on 6/30/2016.

While this maintenance should resolve the issue, we will be closely monitoring player reports throughout the weekend to ensure stability. If you continue to experience this error messaging, without an accompanying error code, please let us know in the #Help forum.

Shooting and Scoring

A community this powerful cannot truly be managed. The best we can do is to inform and to celebrate. That’s where this guy comes in handy.

Cozmo: The scores have been tallied. Now we crown the winners. Last week, there was an abundance of grenades. Let’s see who took advantage of their explosive abilities best.

High Score – 79,160
SdBattlefront
RedSox007
BlazeBoss17

Second Place – 73,935
TheUltraSaint
PickaxeSwinger2
Nutley99

Third Place – 72,120
MarekCieslik
tysia11
b4lz4kq

If you are venturing into the Challenge of Elders this week, make sure your Super is ready. Your bonus points will come from getting kills with your most powerful ability. Keep your distance, though, as your enemies have gone Berserk and will push through your attacks without flinching. Keep Juggling through your weapons. No ammo will be dropping for what you have equipped. Good luck in there.

Scoring and Shooting

Cozmo: The movies are here! We have been watching them on the Creations page all week. Check out some of the best. If you created one of the videos we picked, we have a special Emblem with your name on it! Just please allow 8-10 business days for it to arrive. Let’s skip through the previews and get straight to show.

Movie of the Week: Exotic Rhymes

Honorable Mention: The Titan Bet

Honorable Mention: Alastor

Next week, at this exact moment, it will be Bungie Day. That’s not about us. It’s about you.

Come back to celebrate your role in this amazing community. We’ll have some new ways for you to define your legacy and express yourself creatively. This is an event created by the Bungie Community, and it has raged ever since. See you then.

In the meantime, we have plans within plans within plans. You’ll see the results soon. In the meantime, we’ll see you in the wild, “making you wish you weren’t born when we shoot you with the Thorn and if poison doesn’t kill you, follow up with Gjallarhorn.”

DeeJ, out.
