I don't like middle because it's extremely boring (for a non SB).
Go out, snipe, shot a rocket and repeat. No running and dodging enemies, no killing thrall, no anything. BORING
double bubble is just as safe and way more fun. Not to mention being able to kill all the extra thrall gives you way more chances at heavy ammo drops.

Putting up bubbles so they can shoot you is just as cheesy and standing in the middle imo

I'm not sure how using your super in the way it was designed is cheese (ITS SUPPOSED TO BLOCK BULLETS). Then again I don't think middle strat is really cheesy either. Things like pushing enemies off cliffs and lagging out on purpose, definitely, but this stuff? no way.

I should have worded my comment differently. I don't agree with then OP at all. Mid is a good strategy and so are the bubbles. What I was trying to say is that if mid is considered cheesing by the OP then so should the bubbles. We are using our characters abilities to the fullest there for its not cheesing.
