Oh yes, please tell me about all those exotics you wouldn't have without him.
Obtaining gear through RNG is as much "working" for it as buying them from Xur is. I play a bunch of Vanguard strikes, amass motes and coins and buy them. Another man would play a bunch of Vanguard strikes and get one as a straight drop. There's literally no distinction. One route is just less efficient than the other.
