Do what you want to do but hear my advice first, in the end it's up to you.
I've been in for just under 5 years, picked up corporal a little over a year ago and have had many experiences that have made me the person I am now. Was it a fun few years hell yes, but it has also been the most trying in my entire life. You will gain so many skills to better yourself in your life after your time in but at the coast of many many things while you are in. You will have to give up time with your family, friends, your girlfriend. Your body will be pushed to it's limits and made better because of it, or brake under the stress. You will become part of the elite if you make it through boot camp and no matter what the title of US Marine will be yours long after the day you die, you will be a part of something that is bigger then you could ever be on your own. It will not be easy by any means but is it worth it, to me I wouldn't trade it for anything, will I re-enlist after my enlistment is up? No I will not. Girls will come and go but the title is eternal. It's up to you, it's your life no one else's.
