My girlfriend won't let me join....
So my girlfriend won't let me join the Marines, saying "she doesn't want the military as any part of her life"
It's been my life long dream to join the Marines.
What should I do?

If you want the challenge and the honor by all means do it.Your girlfriend is trying to control your life,and yes a relationship is all about compromise but your young and have plenty of time to find a better girlfriend that is more supportive but remember to also support any crazy and off the wall things she may want to do or "her life dreams".

As long as it's not combat. It can give you good training regardless. I'm not disrespecting our services but those men and women have courage but they aren't allowed to talk about what their objectives are or what there defending. I support the troops but I don't support fighting our governments battles.

Why is it your life long dream to join the Marines? Honestly? We Americans seek nothing but power, and will try to take over anyone, just to obtain it. It is not the life it used to be. I personally can care less about servicing my country, because I don't really love it, and my biological aunt was a captain in the Air Force. Whatever you do, as long as YOU are happy, then so be it. This is a decision YOU must make with your family, friends, and girlfriend.

Nobody is looking for a guy who was a marine for 6 years and can only shoot a gun. Take a job were you can develope yourself. Believe me, i know. It's your life not hers. Follow your own path and she must follow hers and if it seems they meet along the way than its meant to be.

If you want to stay with her, don't join. If advancing your life personally is more important to you, join. Military relationships are difficult especially if one party is already not up for it, I'm in the Navy and it's painful to be in a relationship and be deployed for 6 months at a time even when both people are trying to make it work. If she's giving you and ultimatum then you've got a choice to make.
