[UPDATE 2/25/15] The 1.1.1 Update contains a fix for this issue. If you have not installed this update, please exit Destiny and re-launch to take the patch. If you are still encountering this issue after updating Destiny and following the troubleshooting guide, please let us know.
PLEASE NOTE: This post is ONLY for the Redownloading issue. Please do not post offtopic as it pushes down posts of people who are still experiencing this problem; players that do this will be removed from the thread.
Hello all,
We have been investigating the issue where Xbox One players experience a re-download of a 76mb update every time they play Destiny. We have a few troubleshooting options that we highly recommend players attempt in the order we present them:
Check your internet connection
Are you on a wired or wireless connection? If you are on WiFi or mobile hotspots, we recommend using a wired connection to complete your installation, as sometimes this update is due to the connection failing or hiccuping during the update.
Clear your cache
Clearing the console's cache has been the most successful way of getting out of this state. Please see below for more information as there are two ways to clear the cache on your console. Once it is cleared it will resume your update.
-Launch Destiny on your console (Do not press A to play)
-At the sign on screen (the screen that prompts you “Press A To Play”) press and hold the following buttons for ~10 seconds, or until the game launches : Right Bumper (RB) + Left Bumper (LB) + down on the dpad
-PLEASE NOTE: This button command should only be used on the “Press A To Play” screen
OR
-Completely shut your console off
-Go to Settings
-Go to Power & startup
-Press Turn Xbox off
-Once the console is completely off, unplug the power cord from the back of the console and let sit for ~5 minutes
-Power the console on and re-launch Destiny
Re-launching the game after playing a different game
This issue could also be caused by game installs overlapping each other on your hard drive. Sometimes this can be sorted by simply closing Destiny and launch a recently played game (that is NOT Destiny). Please follow the steps below:
1. Launch Destiny
2. Close Destiny
3. Launch recently played/downloaded game
4. Play for a bit (20-30 minutes is recommended)
5. Close recently played/downloaded game
6. Launch Destiny
At this point, the update will pop up and follow through, and the issue should resolve.
Players who own the disc copy of Destiny have reported that their issue resolved after borrowing a friend's disc and attempting the update, or cleaning the disc. We realize this issue can occur with digital copies, and this solution may not be ideal.
We are aware that these steps may not resolve this issue, and if none of these steps help then re-installing the game may work. Your progress and characters are saved server-side on your account, so you do not need to worry about losing progress if you uninstall. Please know that Bungie is investigating a report on people who cannot resolve this issue with the steps provided. We thank you for your patience as we investigate.

Edited by Minkus2171: 1/9/2015 3:30:53 AMYes. It is our fault that this keeps happening. Why did I think I could play this game on a wireless network. How stupid of me. And here I thought that YOU should actually find the problem and fix it.

OMG PLEASE FIX IT! I paid 70€ for Destiny today and i can't play?! I can't believe that! I WANT MY GAME BACK, NOW. NOW. NOW!!!

I am on Xbox One. I am a level 30 Titan. I have 2 sons one is a level 28 Warlok and the other a level 23 Titan. So we have been playing since the day of release. I will add with out any major issues. Until this Lizard Attack. However the the Lizard Attack was against Microsoft and Sony I don't see them saying they hacked Bungie or Activision specifically. After 5 days of not being able to sign into Destiny, I was finally able to get on and play yesterday for about 2 hours (only after downloading the 76.87mb update 3 times in a row, literally). Today, however I can not get past the first 836KB part of the update (my update starts off with a 836KB part, then goes to 1.05MB, then jumps to 76.87mb) does 10% of the 836KB and then drops out and gives me the wasp error code. I've got the wasp and turtle error codes all day and have not been able to successfully sign into Destiny since last night. I can play BF4, GTA, Assassins Creed Unity, Minecraft & Titanfall without any issues. So I read this post and tried all of the methods, except the deleting of Destiny and reinstalling. The reason I have yet to do this is because I fear Bungies servers are going to repeatedly drop the connection and it will never fully download again. I understand that clearing the cache can get rid of a corrupt file, but Bungie please read the overwellming responses that clearing the Cache with either method is NOT resolving this issue. Bungie keeps saying that we need to check our connection, but if we are all able to play everything except Destiny that would suggest the majority of this issue is happening on your server side or possibly some code on your end has gotten corrupt. But it is clearly a major issue for all involved. Anyway I just wanted to share with Bungie and the rest of the community that clearing the cache is not working. Can some one post if deleting and re-installing Destiny solves the issues at hand (i.e.: unable to log in, and/or the 76.87MB update overtime you sign in).

P.S. the 76mb update never reaches 100%, so again the issue is all at your end. Please sort it and let people enjoy the great game it promises to be. Thankyou
-
Dear Bungie, I have spent £85 on this piece of shit, the money you have made from sales should be enough for you to sort it out your end instead of always asking us to troubleshoot. Everything you ask us to do is futile and eats into precious gametime. You have not delivered what you should, sort it or money back!!!!!

Dear bungie, I'm pretty sure I'm one of the first person to post about this issue back in November. An official statement about this problem would be great.

Getting the same 76 download and then wasp
-
Fixes that DO NOT fix the problem..... bungie... i WANT MY GAME BACK, i paid for it, almost $100 dollars, AND NOW it is being HELD HOSTAGE...... Look, i PROMISE i will continue to help sell 100's of copies, i will continue to BUY the expansion for clanmates and friends and give them the codes so that they can continue to play, I promise i well continue to RAID for hours upon HOURS only to get NOTHING at the end or ONE person getting all the rewards, I promise i will be content with all of this.....just GIVE ME MY GAME BACK....PLEASE?!?!?! i work in the oilfield 24hours on 24 off for months at a time, and when i get home and have only a couple days to enjoy this game....and THIS IS HAPPENING all weekend instead.... GIVE.ME.MY.GAME.BACK.PLEASE
-
These fixes work exactly once, then the problem returns. Annoying doesn't even come close...

Once again back to the wasp issue. I will not delete and instal this game again just to be able to play a day or two and have it happen again. I live out in the country and have a slow connection. It takes 35 - 40 hours for me to do a complete download. I can't believe I paid good money just so I can be frustrated. I think a good idea would be for bungie to fix their mess instead of leaving their customers in the dark and feeling like we were ripped off.

This is a joke. Ive been forced to download this flippin update 10+ times now. Ive never recieved weasel and caterpillar at all until the last hotpatch..now I am plagued with weasel every 30 minutes or so. Right now I am currently trying to download the update (hardwired I might add) and still recieve wasp. Turning your xbox off and clearing your cache..uninstalling and reinstalling the game doesnt do anything at all. The problem is not on our end. I have never experienced the amount of problems I get on a daily basis as I do for Destiny than any other game! And before people jump on me and tell me to play something else...let me say that I enjoy Destiny (when it works) despite the cut content and all the other bs..and thats why I'm getting frusturated with these problems! Bungie..please address these issues..this is getting beyond ridiculous.

Edited by Samcara Tree: 1/3/2015 5:33:42 PMYou have a virus on Xbox live, went through the IP and port use. Get with Microsoft and force a update cancel and clear the server cache of updates and reinforce the intended updates.

Edited by DemonWolf1970: 1/3/2015 3:02:49 AMI tried those and even did the reinstall and works fine. Then when I log off and quit game..turn off console, restart console it tries to download that update again and wasp error all over again. I also notice that the patch version number is 1.1.0.2 instead of the 1.1.0.3 its supposed to be

I've been fine with destiny all day! A few DCs but it was good...until now!
-
None of the above has helped. Still sat watching the same download screen as every other day. This is stupid now.
-
There is also a 1.01MB update that pops up instead on my console (XB1, gamertag is same) and always keeps faulting out too. But mostly the 76.87MB that pops up and fails.
-
I've tried all of these steps and I'm still getting Wasp error codes while trying to download this phantom 76MB update. I really don't believe that my internet connection is to blame. Any estimates for when we might have a fix for this Bungie?
-
Seems we need a fix on Bungie's end so the update works for WiFi downloads
-
Absolutely none of these suggestions are working for any of us at all despite numerous attempts. I've even uninstalled other games from my xbox to see if that would help and still nothing. There has to be something you guys can do on your end to fix this all we want to do is play the game I haven't been able to since Christmas it's January 2nd this is ridiculous
-
Not only do i have a small patch to download, i have 5.51GB of transferring game data every time. This takes 30-40mins to do, and i will often disconnect from xb live causing the process to start over. Also i see no file other than 3-4 small things on my hd of the game, like it doesnt actually install anything. 100% unplayable until i get some support help
Check your internet connection
Well wasn't expect that ... bungie blaming out internet connection, what a surprise !!!
Clear your cache
Another new and unique approach that no one would have already tried ... doing well so far.
Re-launching the game after playing a different game
And what ... keep playing that different game ... ladies and gentlemen I suspect we have a winner.
We are aware that these steps may not resolve this issue, and if none of these steps help then re-installing the game may work
May work ... whatever happened to "will work" ?? And please, tell us how this is different to the "Right Bumper (RB) + Left Bumper (LB) + down on the dpad" solution you have already been pushing ... or is the hope that we may just get lucky one of these time, or get bored, or go back to playing that different game - lol.

You need to investigate faster. This has been a problem SINCE THE DLC RELEASED ON 9TH DECEMBER.
