I've done it as both a hunter, and a warlock, just patrol the moon like you were doing Shrine of Oryx, and you'll come across enough thralls, spaced out enough that they won't chain-explode. Hunters will drop to a sliver of health, warlocks will be better off as long as they do it with the very edge of the melee blast. Key is to wait for the shield to come back before hitting another one.
