Why would a second game benefit bungie? Why not do something original for consoles and create a massive game instead of small spin offs of the original? I personally would keep spending money on a game that progressively added an entire game worth of content instead of a brand new version of a game just with a new number infront of it. Eventually making the whole galaxy and most of earth playable and explorable. Would anyone agree with this? Would anyone like a console game fps that keeps growing like a pc mmorpg?
Update1: Seem like alot of people like this idea, but would you still be willing to pay the 60 for regular and 100-120 for ultimate/collector's editions of a expansion. Remember in what I am talking about is a full games worth of content. I would gladly pay that price to have an unrealistic experience, but would you?
Update 2: lots of people seem to like this idea so I think its time to address different issues people a coming up with.
1. All of the consoles have memory expansion or upgrade options which allow increased storage memory. Check your consoles support page
2. Previous gen ie ps3 and xbox 360 can't handle it. They can with reduced overal graphic settings whats currently employed for this game and any other that is on all 4 platforms. Obviously in a few years those consoles will be obsolete and players will naturally migrate to current gen consoles as support for last gen consoles disappear.
3. What about new players starting after a new "full size expansion" or FSE for short. Well currently my view on the matter is for there to be 2 options
1) allow the to purchase D1 digitally for a reduced price 20ish bucks and able to purchase FSE D2 later at regular price.
2) allow players to bundle the purchase FSE D2 with D1 and digital content for an additional price of 15-30 dollars. Bargain brains will love that.
Along with purchasing this new player/current players new characters would receive a exp boost of 2x degrading as the character gets closer to max lvl. This allows veterans and new comers alike to get from grinding and questing to being part of the action quickly with out diminishing the overall game.
4. Another big point someone brought to the table is upgrades to the overall game engine, mechanics, graphic, characters, and etc. You have to remember this is an install game its resident on your consoles hard drive. We are not playing on N64 any more. Your consoles are more or less a condensed PC. These changes can be made through massive patches and/or through the FSE installations or a combination of both . These capabilities have been employed throughout many MMOs lifespans.
I know there are grammar errors though out my post please remember I do this from my phone. Also we all know destiny 2 is on the disc so can do we get a cryptarch joke or 2.
Next update will consist of ideas for the expansions. Lets see if we can be heard.

This is what they are going to do. Trust me.
-
Thier probably won't be a destiny 2 and if it exists it will be DLC with no story
-
A second game would benefit bungie because they wouldn't have to tie its story directly to this nonexistant one.
-
Ehh I don't know, this game has a lot of baggage. It's a good idea but I think bungie would rater prefer a clean slate
-
good idea!

6 Repliesatleast a option to transfer characters and items would be fine ,considering we spent so much time getting em using the little cointent there is , using those items in new areas would be rewarding

because activision

8 RepliesI've said it before, and I'll say it again. It should be an expansion, but it should not just be new content. It should be new content, plus old content, but with modifications to the core of the game that simply cannot be accomplished on legacy platforms. That way, you let someone who has not played the first game, start with the second - get the chance to do everything that was done in the first game, plus have the expanded game universe, as well. The upside is that they can still attract new players, while actually pushing the technological limits of the newer consoles a bit more (or, more appropriately, a lot more). Fully get making the first game cover two generations of consoles, for those who are not in a position to get a new console yet. But another two years, or so, down the line? I would be very disappointed if the graphics and framerates continued to be throttled that far into this generation.

2 RepliesBump Bump, but Bungie would need to be careful not to accidentally create a huge financial barrier for entry for new players. In other words in a few years from now no new players would come to destiny if they had to pay $300 for a game and 12 expansions.

"Very good keep giving us your money." Sincerely, Bungie
-
man that is cool and all but im going to need a much bigger harddrive to keep up with that. destiny isnt the only thing on there.

Destiny 2.0.0 15GB

Edited by Masenko: 11/21/2014 10:16:33 PMLmao maybe after 4 of these news games we would have what we expected bungie to make in the first game.

Agree

Yes, this is brilliant! I would love this : )

1 ReplyCharacters will most certainly remain in place into the next game. I think rather than installing 2 as an add-on to 1, they'll simply carry over content from 1 into 2. Like keeping the existing Patrols/Strikes/Raids, and adding a whole full-game worth of new stuff. If you think about it from a story perspective, they can't keep sending us back into the beginning story missions for 10 years. So maybe they'll even change what story missions happen in the old locations to fit new plot lines? Kind of hard to predict exactly what they'll do. But I doubt they'll just throw out everything they (and we) already have.

I am pretty sure that through this whole Destiny franchise of 10 years or even more. Your Guardians will always carry along with you. I believe it is confirmed, since multiple sources has said so including IGN.

Edited by Some Guy Named Alex: 11/11/2014 4:14:13 PMObviously the game will be available to download so you'll be able to switch between the two easily. However I can see people wanting a new release because then bungie and activision can finally leave behind the last gen consoles and fully utilize the new hardware capabilities. As beautiful as Destiny is, you can tell it's not quite next gen just yet.

Yeah I'd rather them stay with Destiny 1 and do DLC packs. I don't want to play a Destiny 2 anytime soon
-
I think Destiny 2 is essentially going to be an expansion pack but they would make more money packaging it as a new game versus rolling it out as an expansion DLC. Apparently, you'll be able to carry over your characters and weapons so I don't see how that isn't similar to an expansion.

An expansion that big would be nice - if it where free. And they could make up something close to a story this time. Otherwise it´s just: "Bungie? Never again, thx!"

FOR FREE!!! Where's my weekly update?

3 RepliesThis probably won't be the case, and the reason for it is simple. Destiny 2 will be exclusively next-gen (PS4 and Xbox One). Meaning graphics will be amped, and environments will be bigger, with the capacity to hold more than 12 players. I suspect this was one of the reasons for Destiny's biggest shortcomings. Having to share current and next gen consoles meant smaller environments and parties, with less people per servers.
