Why would a second game benefit bungie? Why not do something original for consoles and create a massive game instead of small spin offs of the original? I personally would keep spending money on a game that progressively added an entire game worth of content instead of a brand new version of a game just with a new number infront of it. Eventually making the whole galaxy and most of earth playable and explorable. Would anyone agree with this? Would anyone like a console game fps that keeps growing like a pc mmorpg?
Update1: Seem like alot of people like this idea, but would you still be willing to pay the 60 for regular and 100-120 for ultimate/collector's editions of a expansion. Remember in what I am talking about is a full games worth of content. I would gladly pay that price to have an unrealistic experience, but would you?
Update 2: lots of people seem to like this idea so I think its time to address different issues people a coming up with.
1. All of the consoles have memory expansion or upgrade options which allow increased storage memory. Check your consoles support page
2. Previous gen ie ps3 and xbox 360 can't handle it. They can with reduced overal graphic settings whats currently employed for this game and any other that is on all 4 platforms. Obviously in a few years those consoles will be obsolete and players will naturally migrate to current gen consoles as support for last gen consoles disappear.
3. What about new players starting after a new "full size expansion" or FSE for short. Well currently my view on the matter is for there to be 2 options
1) allow the to purchase D1 digitally for a reduced price 20ish bucks and able to purchase FSE D2 later at regular price.
2) allow players to bundle the purchase FSE D2 with D1 and digital content for an additional price of 15-30 dollars. Bargain brains will love that.
Along with purchasing this new player/current players new characters would receive a exp boost of 2x degrading as the character gets closer to max lvl. This allows veterans and new comers alike to get from grinding and questing to being part of the action quickly with out diminishing the overall game.
4. Another big point someone brought to the table is upgrades to the overall game engine, mechanics, graphic, characters, and etc. You have to remember this is an install game its resident on your consoles hard drive. We are not playing on N64 any more. Your consoles are more or less a condensed PC. These changes can be made through massive patches and/or through the FSE installations or a combination of both . These capabilities have been employed throughout many MMOs lifespans.
I know there are grammar errors though out my post please remember I do this from my phone. Also we all know destiny 2 is on the disc so can do we get a cryptarch joke or 2.
Next update will consist of ideas for the expansions. Lets see if we can be heard.
-
I would like to port my characters to the new one.
-
I really hope and think is just what they will do, would defiantly build on the ten year plan
-
They could just give us an option to import the full previous maps (plus additions to those maps) and progress into Destiny 2 for owners of the first game.
-
What sucks is D2 has already been confirmed. Got into Destiny because I bought into the whole "expansive worlds, experimental storytelling" and trust me, I Love this game. Over 8 days invested. I just hate that instead of expanding through expansions like you're suggesting, we're gonna get sequel after sequel after sequel
-
Yea I would love that but what about all the room it would take on my tiny ps4 memory
-
Agreed. Good post.
-
Yes this should happen
-
According to an old statement, they want to make D2 allow for character transfer from D1 as well as make it a game where a new player can start at Lv 1 and work their way up. It would be cool if you could access all of the D1 planets on D2.
-
Yes yes and yes
-
It should be like how WOD for WoW is. It's upgrading visuals and gameplay mechanics and such while also offering a giant new area to spend hundreds of hours in. But the other side of me wants Bungie to just start again and ditch this storyless game and make an immersive and socially rewarding game.
-
Only about 5% of the player base has beat the raid on hard. That tells me 95% of people who own Destiny would prefer a fresh start. Those of us who have reached the end game love the idea of just expanding it. We are the few though, sadly. From a business perspective, Destiny 2 will need to be a stand alone product that has a completely level and even playing field on day 1.
-
Best idea ever
-
Would rather not see this because they would have to limit content/graphics due to the older console generations. D2 will almost certainly be for ps4 and x1 only.
-
This is absolutely what needs to happen. Even if it just grabs our Destiny 1 save file or stats from our Bungie account.
-
I completely agree with you, I WILL NOT be purchasing D2 I learned my lesson with this one!
-
Make it into a proper mmo over time, I like it
-
I would prefer that. With an expansion like that though, it would be hard to get new customers.
-
I think it should as well, but they should update the entirety of the base game. It should be X1 and PS4 only too. Let people transfer profiles from older generation consoles to pacify the masses.
-
No it shouldn't, it should fix all the shit that's wrong with destiny. Honestly I think they should scrap it and start fresh
-
Someone told me that the characters will be transferable but they don't won't it to seem like you have years of experience on new players. Idk how they are gonna do that though
-
I would prefer expansions over new games. For example, I want strike play lists to include higher level modes, but I want all of the strikes from Destiny and the 2 expansions to still be playable in Destiny 2. All of the crucible maps to be part of the rotation in 2, etc.
-
Don't want , I have about 150-160 games in my collection . I enjoy going on the hunt , getting it , opening it up and playing the hell out of it . I want it to get bigger not be digital . My collection makes me happy:)
-
But Destiny needs to ditch last-gen consoles because of hardware limiting the game. And what if they want to change or overhaul some fundamental parts of the game, instead of just adding new planets and missions?
-
I'd rather have a new game with updated graphics, new and improved mechanics, and 60 FPS. Things patching and adding DLC can't do.
-
Great idea
-
This is what they are going to do. Trust me.
