Not really. An RPG at its core is as it states a role playing game wherein you take on a custom (in most cases) role where there is some sort of stats system, equipment and an "epic" story in scope (defeat the bug bad, save world, etc). The whole decisions/choices isn't inherent in all RPGs let alone matter in most cases (fable lol). Destiny most glaringly feels to me like its trying to be a serious space opera borderlands. Your main weapons are all guns with varying perks/playstyles. Equipment with unique modifiers and looks. Plus its mainly coop in nature with a max of 6 people in a fire team ( max people in one instance of the tower is like 16~ or something). Its not anything new or innovative like they advertised even though with watching and reading, and playing the beta it was in nature just an fps rpg. It feels like they wanted Halo in scope but with RPG elements which is fine, but bungies didn't expect or anticipate this much love/hate as well as how an fps RPG works. They stated in one interview destiny was supposed to a fps scifi dark souls which I can see, but they just didn't hit the mark this go around and hopefully it feels more polished later in its span. This first destiny game is just a stepping stone for them, thing is if its in a good or bad direction.
