We are aware there are some players that are not having a quality experience getting or staying connected to Destiny, even after following the troubleshooting steps. We will be updating the CATTLE/CATERPILLAR, CENTIPEDE, BEE/FLY/LION and BEAVER/FLATWORM/LEOPARD help articles with updates as we investigate. Here are some links for those that want more info (scroll to the bottom of each article for updates): http://www.bungie.net/7_Error-Code-CENTIPEDE/en/Help/Article/11875 http://www.bungie.net/7_Error-Code-CATERPILLAR--CATTLE/en/Help/Article/11873 http://www.bungie.net/7_Error-Code-BEE--FLY--LION/en/Help/Article/11791 http://www.bungie.net/7_Error-Code-BEAVER--FLATWORM--LEOPARD/en/Help/Article/11790

Mahziel, instead of spreading FUD, why don't you go and read up on how networks really work instead? Port scanners might work if your connection to your ISP is via a static IP; and if your ISPs firewall somehow let the port scanner through. They wouldn't work at all if you're getting a dynamic IP from your ISP. Don't understand why that is the case? Read up on it. You want to talk about compromised security? How about the fact that both Microsoft and Sony in their online and printed documentation RECOMMEND users enable UPnP to solve networking issues? Do a Google search. There are people out there who even recommend setting up a DMZ to solve this problem. There are literally thousands of posts and hundreds of YouTube videos that walk you through this. My temporary fix is far from the disaster you so vividly paint above. But the plain fact is most individuals don't get their data stolen by pure network hacks to their own equipment. It takes about as much work to hack one user as it does to crack the security of an institution like a credit card company, a retailer or a bank. Even if that weren't the case, where do you suppose these hackers are going to put their time and effort for the bigger payoff? On your home network, or on the networks of these institutions or companies? Mass leaks of private data only ever comes from compromised databases of institutions or companies that collect this consumer data. Individuals, on the other hand, get their data stolen by their own mistakes. They fall for things like phishing attacks, or they browse unsafe websites that load malware and trojans into their browsers and then onto their systems. They download stuff off the internet without considering how unsafe these downloads might be. You could have your firewall running on your router and on your computer, not have any open ports at all (because you don't game), and have UPnP and DMZ disabled and STILL get infected or compromise your own security. Don't understand why? That's because HTTP requires port 80 in your router to always be open in order to access the internet, even if the firewall is on. Everyone has access to email, even if the firewall is on. That's why you should have antivirus and anti-malware software on your computer, and have the good sense not to fill out your private data from an email with an embedded link telling you your security has been compromised. Yes, agreed, turning off your firewall in your router is not ideal, but it is so FAR AWAY from the scenario you describe above as to be laughable. Your console, be it Xbox or Playstation, connects through a unique online gaming service. And while Microsoft's and Sony's websites have been hacked and data stolen, this has never happened on their game networks. Why? Because there is no user data stored on them. They're there only to facilitate online gaming. Your console is safer being connected to XBL or PSN than your PC is to the internet by far. No console has ever been remotely hacked connected to their respective gaming service, with or without firewall disabled. My suggestion as a fix stands. It works and it is a temporary solution for people who want to play Destiny. And THAT is the topic of this thread. Compromising your own security has absolutely nothing to do with the state of your router's firewall. Please go sow your fear, uncertainty, doubt, discord or whatever else on another thread.

  • I was having problem after problem connecting and staying connected then I finally had time to set up a permanent IP address and forward all the ports required (which by the way even with the detailed instructions on portforwarding.com or whatever it was very confusing) my entire Xbox works better now not just destiny I went from downloading at 6mb/s to 22-24mb/s. I've had so many issues staying connected to games like cod battlefield not anymore thank you bungie destiny and activision

A good resource to use is Portforward.com. If you're having problems, you can first start by disabling your router's firewall to see if that solves your connectivity issues. Still not working? Next, set your Xbox or Playstation to get an IP/DNS address from your network automatically and enable UPnP on your router - also enable UPnP in your PS3/PS4 as well if that's what you're using. If you can connect and play, then that means the issue was your hardware configuration. Find your router on Portforward.com and follow their step by step instructions on how to cofigure port forwarding. You will need to make sure you forward all the ports required by Xbox Live or PSN (depending on which service you use) and also those required by Destiny. You can find this information using the (?) Help link in the left sidebar right under Forums. Make sure you turn UPnP off and use port forwarding instead for a more secure connection to the internet. If you still can't play, then it means that there is a possible problem with your ISPs broadband modem setup or in how they are filtering P2P traffic. At this point, you'd have to call your ISP for help to resolve this issue.

  • Cannot Connect to Fireteam with my roommate. Purchased the Destiny edition PS4 so we could both play together as the game is Designed to be played, and I can't even play with them. Both Open NAT, both can connect to ANYONE else.

  • Bee error is related to general network stability. You should make sure you're not doing any video streaming, downloading or torrenting when you're playing Destiny as it is very sensitive to a stable link speed. You might also try turning on QoS (Quality of Service) in your router; but in my experience that won't completely solve this issue. You just have to ensure Destiny is the only thing running on your network.

  • So what am I supposed to do? Demand to my father to keep everyone from enjoying their online time just so that I can enjoy my game? Even you have to admit that sounds a little selfish. Some people are stuck in a situation where their entire families have to use the internet for other things. In this case, I am at a dead end. No other online game has this problem. This is on Bungie's end. Not ours.

@ Genetus777 We are talking about a potential solution to these problems, but you're right these are optimal case scenarios. You can't stop others from using the internet in your home, but by understanding the issues, it can help you perhaps choose an more optimal time to play. However, it is also very true that we paid for a working game, and this isn't it. Bungie absolutely has responsibility to fix this problem. The issue lies in their use of P2P style protocols to load balance networked play. In my opinion it was a stroke of pure genius and pure madness all at once. Most people here are probably familiar with torrents. Torrents run faster as more seeds (peers) join the P2P network. That is because P2P networks rely on each individual user's bandwidth as opposed to the server's bandwidth. Theoretically speaking, Bungie's use of P2P networking could allow the number of networked peers playing in a particular game instance or game area in Destiny to scale infinitely. You wouldn't be able to do this using the more commonly found client-server architecture as the server's bandwidth is not infinite and that is what dictates the limitation on number of peers it can handle in a specific game instance. This is why most shooters place a hard limit on the number of players that can join per match. But Bungie really messed up by underestimating the infrastructure that has been put in place by universities and ISPs to block P2P data traffic as most of it is related to torrents and illegal file sharing. Even our router's firewalls are filtering some of the packets. Destiny as a game is far too sensitive to stable link speeds. It doesn't like that its P2P-like packets are getting filtered. My guess is that Bungie built Destiny with some QoS safeguards to ensure everyone has stable 30fps performance. If a client is dropping data packets or has unstable link speeds, in a P2P network that client affects not only its own gameplay peformance but also that of all the other peers. So once you hit a certain threshold, Destiny drops you as a peer. Anyway, I don't work for Bungie and I'm not a networking genius. But after considering all the evidence, this is the best explanation I can come up with for Destiny's behavior. A lot of people are saying the problems don't lie in their own equipment or is not an ISP issue. If you take what I've posited into account, that may not be entirely true; and saying that all the problems are on Bungie's end is, therefore, not entirely accurate. If you have a connection operating under the right circumstances, Destiny runs very well. After turning off the firewall in my router, my experience has been that Bungie's servers are actually quite solid. Rock solid in fact. I went from having BEE, CENTIPEDE and CATERPILLAR errors every few minutes to being lagged out only once in a 7 hour play period. The problem isn't with their servers. It is a combination of Destiny's sensitivity to the quality of the data stream and the environment in which Destiny operates with each user's equipment setup, and the ISP's setup as well.

  • The connection isn't mine to command, and doing what you suggest isn't an option for me. The only time I can play is during graveyard hours when everyone is sleeping which causes problems for everyone including me. Long story short, there is no optimal time for me to play. I pretty much just wasted $60. I can only hope bungie gets their shit together soon and stops blaming us for our problems. They need to start looking on their end.

  • Sorry to hear that. And I agree that Bungie just needs to fix the sensitivity that Destiny exhibits, even if it means compromising the 30fps target. Having a stable game connection for everyone has to be more important than that.
