Cross Generation Play? (NOT PS to XBOX) PLEASE RECONSIDER BUNGIE!!!
Does anyone know if Xbox One and Xbox 360 players will be able to play together for the final game? I would love to play Raid and other gametypes with my brother and friends on Xbox 360 (I play on the Xbox One). I thought they would allow cross platform play within the Xbox Community, but that was not the case for the Beta. Thanks!
*I forgot to mention that I wanted this because my brother plays on the Xbox 360 and I play on the Xbox One. Sorry for the confusion!!
UPDATE: Hopefully Bungie reconsiders!! Now the only way I could play with my brother and friends on the Xbox 360 is if we get a second Xbox 360 or Xbox One console for my household because there is also no splitscreen :/

1 ReplyIt will not happen. Developers are specifically not allowed to do this. One of the many ( often weird ) first party rules that developers have to follow.

It's wiser to trade in the old one and it's games for the new box. But you should have traded it in months ago. Now you have to put it on craigslist for a decent price.

1 Reply360 and xbox one cannot play together. However, if you start on 360 and upgrade to xbox one, you can transfer your characters to the next gen if you keep the same gamertag.

1 ReplyUnfortunately I think your best bet will be to get a second console. bungie has said that they cannot do cross-gen play because of issues with the graphics. I believe the specific example was that a player who appears only 2 pixels on an old console could appear as 4 pixels on the newer consoles, thus making it unfair towards the older console (In pvp). Since bungie did not want to compromise how good it looks on newer consoles to match the older ones they had to make the split.

8 RepliesI suggest you buy a copy of destiny for both xbox one and 360. You are able to seamlessly transfer your character from generation to generation, and the disparity between generations isn't that big, I'd say (PS3 version still looks and performs great).

2 RepliesUnfortunately it won't happen, it is completely possible to do, and other games have done it on the psn, final fantasy a realm reborn does it, ps3, ps4 and pc all engage in pve and pvp without any rendering issue which leads me to conclude that bungie don't actually know how to make cross generation work properly. It has nothing to do with the platform, I'm sure if square worked with xbox in the same way they could get cross gen to work fine.

Which means Bungie must deliver a higher end preforming version of Destiny that it cannot give to the old generations. If cross platforming was to be supported, both games would have to be identical preforance wise. Meaning graphics, FPS, and a whole bunch of other stuff would have to be basically nerfed for the next gen. Destiny already made a huge leap in supporting xbox and playstation servers in unison. Is that not enough?

2 RepliesI concur. Any hopes of getting my fiancé to ever play Destiny with me are utterly destroyed by two things: 1: No split screen and 2) No cross platform. I have a PS4 and a PS3, but I am not buying another damn system just to be able to play together. They should have given the player the option of playing cross platform or on their generation server. The players can then decide whether it is more important to play with friends or to play on their specific generation to avoid any possible advantage. Bungie, you are segmenting your community in a game that focuses on multiplayer experiences; it's a bad decision.

Also, do you seriously believe that winning on the forums about features that are near impossible to implement given the hardware and time limitations is going to make Bungie come and say "Your wish is my command, would you like some chips with that cross-generation play/matchmaking?"

Second, who cares?! People will complain about everything. If anything, no cross gen on pvp. I just want to play with my past gen homies [spoiler]PRE ORDER SO SUPER CANCELED!! ;)[/spoiler]

3 RepliesI do not believe that you can play Destiny across the Generation. The PS3 won't be on the same server to game on as the PS4. The same goes for the XbOx 360 and the XbOx OnE. However. If you have a copy for each of the machines. Both generations, the XbOx 360 and XbOx One, for example, you can use the same characters for each game. You create a character on the XbOx OnE you can use that character on the XbOx 360. As far as I know, this is how it works. I'm not sure why they aren't cross compatible through generation as the PS3 and the PS4 servers, for example, in Final Fantasy online is cross generation and cross compatible with the PC and the game DC Universe is also cross generation for the PS3 and PS4.
