I have to agree with External here. With everything that Destiny promises to be, Bungie would be backhanding their own game if they were to preclude offline gameplay modes. I GET that they want to be an MMO. I GET that Destiny is the spiritual successor to a series of games famed for their ONLINE MULTIPLAYER. I myself still regularly play Halo: Reach to this day, but I'm comforted to know that when support for Xbox 360 goes down, I'll still have a game I can play, even with my friends. And that's the ONLY reason why Halo 2 still sits on my shelf. Because it's still great fun to play offline.
Bungie, if you have to gut ANY features to make it playable offline, DO IT. PLEASE. I've asked the same of Respawn's Titanfall who have also refused to show even the slightest hint of thought towards the lifespan and literal accessibility of their game (they're Xbox One Exclusive for example), but you guys, your newest venture is cross-platform, and the Halo series, albeit experimental in many regards, has reflected a CONSISTENT acknowledgment of accessibility and replayability through offline single-player, local split-screen, and system link options in addition to the online component, not to mention the eventual addition of replay and content creation modes. Respawn is a fresh company born from Call of Duty, I have yet to form expectations of them. But Bungie made Halo, so I'd assume you'd give us the same options as always. ...But Activision happened... and now look at Blizzard. Diablo III, Starcraft II, and World of Warcraft... UNPLAYABLE.
Taking consoles into the MMO genre is an excellent and natural progression provided today's hardware, and I would love to see it go places. I just sincerely hope that the other companies making the games I've enjoyed up to this point, don't get sucked into the "cloud hype" and refuse to dignify the cretins that carry the increasingly asinine flag that "online is the way games should be played" when the complete and utter vast majority of RPGs that games like Destiny take a hint from were never ever meant to be played online.
...Frankly, now that I think about it: If I had to choose between a Destiny that was console exclusive, or a Destiny with no offline options, I would always choose the console exclusive. I wonder if we'll see a fallout with Activision as we did with Microsoft Studios.

Making an offline mode would lead to more hacks. It's easy to filter through offline storage compared to something that is stored on a server somewhere. Games like this either have to be offline only or online only. Look at borderlands for an example.

It would be fine if it was always online if bastards Lizard Squad hadn't hacked it, but it would be nice that when the servers are down then there is offline.

Edited by KirnJustin: 10/31/2014 6:44:21 PMIt's been out a while now, and yeah. A lot of features were gutted. But the way the game plays and handles it's like a watered down, less cartoony, not funny, no-story Borderlands that's required to be online all the time for no adequate reason. And if people say it's because Bungie wants to be able to add stuff while the game is online, then they need to go shut the hell up right now. Because they take Destiny down for these updates. And you still need to download those updates to your system like you've had to for the last 15 years of most online gaming. So the point of it being always online is moot. Point is, if you've played Borderlands, you've played Destiny except with more story and content. But Destiny is okay. Not GREAT or WONDERFUL, but also not AWFUL or HORRIBLE. It's just okay. Not anything like what was promised. Not open world, not particularly fascinating or engaging. And not particularly original. It's just... okay. It's safe and will sell, but will be quickly forgotten too.

But if it's always online and somebody dosen't have good internet you will be LOSING connection with servers
-
Agree. Make this offline aswell please bungie
-
What if I have really crappy internet. I can connect and I have a Gold Account, but my interent isn't fast enough for online gameplay. Will I still be able to play solo?
-
Me also i highly agree with you Omnioza. I'm scared that this game will not be single player I've been waiting for this game for a long while just to find out that you need internet to play it??? I mean come on Bungie your beater than that. What about the people that do not have Xbox live or internet, that is a complete disadvantage. SO BUNGIE IF YOU CAN HERE ME PLEASE MAKE THIS AWESOME GAME SINGLE PLAYER.
-
I think this game is great and everything but the most annoying thing about this game is that you can only play it Online meaning you have to have the Internet just to play it which is going to throw off many many many people right off those on the PS4 and XBOX ONE for me i can't stand playing games online on a daily bases and being told that in order to play a game that you really want to play you need the internet has really thrown me off this game other then that brill stuff.

i agree, im one of the people that dont like to pay for a network in this case xbox live

Dude old news. Here is the thing. Destiny will be an evolving world. They want to be able to change it For the better; Too many game companies make a static game. So if they wanted to improve something or drop in some kick ass gear they could. Even improve missions or fix glitches. Listen to some of the podcasts. Go back through the mail sacks. Deej left a bunch of info. -Commander Slayer of Trolls.

I understand that Destiny will not be playable offline, and that is due to it being a "constantly evolving world" as you say Cobra. But they could just as easily make two discs. No, you wouldn't need to have all the data on one disc, just like essentials to play for a long while. Like put Earth and the Moon on on disc, and keep the online disc as is. Online players would have all that they need, but others of us who would really like to play Destiny but either can't pay for Gold or simply don't have internet at near enough the speed needed to play online (like myself) could also play the game in most its glory, but not enjoy all the planets, quests, battles, weapons, enemies, etc. that every online player would.
-
Yeah I understand that and love it, but what happens when the franchise is done, will we be able to play it
-
I know for one I play the original games a lot more than the latter, maybe we'd be able to download a portion of what's needed to play offline
-
That's true, when do you think the online servers would go down though,
