I would like to know: Do I need a constant internet connection to play?
And can I play the game as if it's a single player experience?

I honestly would like if the game HAD Offline Mode... My connection is trash, and I disconnect from server Every now and then... Get thrown off PvP and Gambit and Strikes all the time. And I literally am unable to get any better connection as it is like this because where I live. And I am not starting to move just to play the game.

Edited by QuantumW1nd3: 6/24/2016 11:42:25 AMwould be good if they did add an offline option, would add replay value and if your connection goes down, you could still play the story part and with all the dlc, it's no long a tiny fragment of the game. people need to stop saying it's online only, deal with it, not everyone wants to play it online all the time. it has single player story and the dlc adds more to it, so it's not online only, you just need a constant connection to play, which is bad, games with both sp and mp shouldn't require be always connected. they should've made it so you choose to be online or alone at the main menu.

You can play with out gold but you have to have internet access to play it you just can't do as much only the story line
-
Not really. You don't have to have PS+ or Xbox live gold to just do the story missions. But you do have to be online, and you'll still see other players. The story is also really short, you'd be missing out on 2/3 of the game by not doing strikes or crucible at all.

id like to know why no competitive was included. i see clans on destiny all the time and i ask myself whats the point, where is all the private matches etc so that ppl can compete. i like to watch halo etc on twitch & see top teams slugging it out but no such thing with this game, i just go to twitch & watch ppl on destiny do the same stuff that im already doing.

I play through the game almost exclusively by myself, (except in Crucible and Strikes,) and I will not be able to access any single player missions without being connected to the internet. As far as I'm concerned, this is not a game that should require a constant internet connection. There is absolutely no reason we shouldn't be able to disconnect from the internet and play some offline solo mode. It's great to access the multiplayer portions of this game, but until there are social features implemented in Destiny, there is zero reason to force solo players to connect to the servers. It's another installment in the continuing trend of Always-Online DRM bullcrap that publishers wet themselves over in boardroom meetings.

Dude you don't want a solo player mode...its the worst

2 RepliesI don't know why you would want to play offline, a game like this is much more fun with friends ( and this is coming from a lone wolf type player).
-
4 RepliesSo does that mean in the most obscure sense that Destiny is really sub based?
-
No, you cannot play offline

14 RepliesI have to agree with External here. With everything that Destiny promises to be, Bungie would be backhanding their own game if they were to preclude offline gameplay modes. I GET that they want to be an MMO. I GET that Destiny is the spiritual successor to a series of games famed for their ONLINE MULTIPLAYER. I myself still regularly play Halo: Reach to this day, but I'm comforted to know that when support for Xbox 360 goes down, I'll still have a game I can play, even with my friends. And that's the ONLY reason why Halo 2 still sits on my shelf. Because it's still great fun to play offline. Bungie, if you have to gut ANY features to make it playable offline, DO IT. PLEASE. I've asked the same of Respawn's Titanfall who have also refused to show even the slightest hint of thought towards the lifespan and literal accessibility of their game (they're Xbox One Exclusive for example), but you guys, your newest venture is cross-platform, and the Halo series, albeit experimental in many regards, has reflected a CONSISTENT acknowledgment of accessibility and replayability through offline single-player, local split-screen, and system link options in addition to the online component, not to mention the eventual addition of replay and content creation modes. Respawn is a fresh company born from Call of Duty, I have yet to form expectations of them. But Bungie made Halo, so I'd assume you'd give us the same options as always. ...But Activision happened... and now look at Blizzard. Diablo III, Starcraft II, and World of Warcraft... UNPLAYABLE. Taking consoles into the MMO genre is an excellent and natural progression provided today's hardware, and I would love to see it go places. I just sincerely hope that the other companies making the games I've enjoyed up to this point, don't get sucked into the "cloud hype" and refuse to dignify the cretins that carry the increasingly asinine flag that "online is the way games should be played" when the complete and utter vast majority of RPGs that games like Destiny take a hint from were never ever meant to be played online. ...Frankly, now that I think about it: If I had to choose between a Destiny that was console exclusive, or a Destiny with no offline options, I would always choose the console exclusive. I wonder if we'll see a fallout with Activision as we did with Microsoft Studios.

5 RepliesEdited by Commander Tempu: 2/15/2014 9:50:14 PMSolo yes. Offline no. Destiny Requires you to be connected and have gold or PSN network full access. That was announced ages ago. People should think of Destiny as an evolving world. They want to be able to make changes and add stuff while the game is going. So they could for instance hold holiday events ect..Fix Glitches make other adjustments vs static games that were made the best they could be but will never develop further. Bungie will be able to do this all while the game is going. They are moving just past Halo they are moving towards a viable system sort of Word of Warcraft like but better. This only strengthens and improves the game. PS: I hope the Mods find the fool that bumped this and slap you hard with warnings.

No. You should be, but you can't play offline solo, but you can be online and choose to go it alone.
-
No if it's gonna be made for the xbox one including than it will be always on because the xbox one is always on. Schooled 2+2=blam

While it stinks you can't play offline for those w/O a connection, you gotta at least understand that trying to do that would affect the overall gameplay experience... Not to mention the amount of data they'd have to squeeze into the disks wouldn't be cost effective at all. The servers will be dumping most of the games content onto your consoles. Sorry to say... Without an online connection you're toast.

2 RepliesYou must have Internet to play, but you can choose to play alone.

2 RepliesA question I have is will we be required to have a gold account to play? Looks like most of the new games coming out require a Internet connection to enjoy them. Long gone will be the days when you could have a LAN party at a camp Ground when the sun goes down.
-
1 ReplyYes you do need a constant enter net connection to play. A better question is: "Do I need an xbox live gold membership just to play single player?" which if anyone can answer that you're awesome.
-
4 RepliesWell since Destiny is a persistent world I think a connection will be needed so it can stay that way.
-
3 RepliesThat's a shame for servicemen deployed overseas who've always relied on LAN multiplayer, or first-year on-campus students in dorms with restrictive networks, but it seems to be the way things are going. It also unfortunately means the on-disc game experience has a shelf life and expiration date tied to support on its servers. Here's hoping they can retain some core solo experience offline, and LAN MP, though it no doubt wouldn't be the full range of content (given its episodic and persistent nature).

3 RepliesI don't think you can, but maybe Strike can be offline (rumored to be the new Firefight mode)
