Has anyone been following this case at all? I've been catching up.
What are your thoughts?
Is this a clear cut case of statutory -blam!-?
Are they being targeted due to orientation?
If this was a man of the same age as the older girl and his partner was the same age as the victim would the outcome, charges, and media attention be different?
-
If this was a lad, he'd already be labelled a sex offender and in prison. If anything, not treating the offender like any guy would be treated is discrimination against men.
-
I wanted this to be a lesbian couple in a hot tub... I am disappoint.
-
Is what the older girl did illegal? Yes, so she should absolutely be prosecuted like anyone else.
-
I feel like they're overreacting a little. They always need to judge the "-blam!-" cases based upon intent and how the parties felt at the time. 14 is still pretty young though. Even when I was 18, that would have been way too young for me.
-
i find it kind of sad that the younger teens parents are flat out lying and nobody is calling them on it.
"We had no other alternative but to turn to the law, use it basically as a last resort," the victim's father, Jim Smith, had previously told CNN affiliate WPEC.
but from what we know they went straight to police after the older teen turned 18 without mentioning anything to the older teen or her parents. last resort my ass they targeted her because they are bigots and do not deserve children.
-
It looks to me like they're being treated like almost anyone else would. 14 seems too young to be dating an 18 year old to me.
-
Wasn't the 14 year old girl a willing participant? And the older girl should not have been texting when she was ordered not to.
-
I think that judges should do their jobs and view the law within the context of the situation. There is not any abuse going on, they are within a range of maturity that the relationship is on equal footing, there's nothing wrong with this.
-
Don't text that shit, Snapchat it.
-
I don't know about the US, but here in Canada, if both are minors, they have to be within two years of each other.
-
I was expecting the hot water to be a bath sex scene, i am disappoint.
Has anyone been following this case at all? I've been catching up.
Yeah, it made it's way around the Flood a while ago.
What are your thoughts?
It's a -blam!-ed up situation all around but that ultimately the older girl shouldn't be charged. Even though her most recent actions are facepalmingly stupid.
Is this a clear cut case of statutory -blam!-?
No. IIRC the relationship started when both were minors and the parents of the younger girl only came forward with a complaint after the older girl turned 18. At which point they went straight to the police rather than communicate with the other parents.
Are they being targeted due to orientation?
Seemingly yes. I recall a quote where the parents of the younger girl blamed the older for turning their daughter gay. If this was a man of the same age as the older girl and his partner was the same age as the victim would the outcome, charges, and media attention be different?
-
No sexual orientation targeting. Their case is being treated the same way as a heterosexual couple that would be doing the same thing.
-
brie is just mouthwatering.
-
My thoughts? They're not being treated differently than a straight couple, and rightfully so
-
This type of iPod allows people to exchange text messages and other media.
>_>
including more than 20,000 text messages, "explicit" videos and nude pictures
Jesus. And yes, if it were a guy and girl it would be on Breaking News.
-
She had sex with somebody under the age of consent then was told not to talk to the girl and broke those rules and is being punished for it. It's a shame but the law is the law. I doubt their orientation had anything to do with it consider it was a 18 year old having sex with a 14 year old. It's legal in the UK to have normal sex and anal sex but it's illegal for gay guys to have anal sex until they are 18. That's discrimination but probably over looked by everybody. No signs of discrimination in this care.
-
I think it's clear in this case.
-
Although it's uncommon teens do sometimes get done for sexting. This might be the first gay couple that was picked up the media. It doesn't help that they continued after they we're first caught.

Edited by GrandmasterNinja: 8/21/2013 4:32:12 PMShe was 18 and her gf was 14. So it's -blam!-. If a 18 year old dude was -blam!-ing a 14 yr old girl people would call him a pedo and throw him to jail. The only reason this is catching new is cause they're gay and the rapist doesn't "look like a rapist". If guys get put into jail due to "jail-bait" teens, then so should gay women.

Edited by Gaara444: 8/21/2013 4:27:01 PMThis isn't controversial, they aren't being targeted cause of their orientation. She was clearly told to stop communication and did it anyways. Not to mention she clearly ignored the Half Your Age Plus Seven rule, YOU JUST DON'T DO THAT!
-
I think your use of the word victim is misaligned. The legal definition of consent is misaligned with responsibility for ones own actions so there is a time where you are responsible for what you do but cannot give consent to what you do. Enough of that, she was ordered to not communicate. She did. Unlucky.
-
They're Lesbians, nobody phuking care. Can't ban me.
-
I was hoping for lesbians in a hot tub... I am disappointed.
-
This is -blam!-ing retarded. Florida has the weirdest shit, seriously.
