Western manga

I have been planning my manga for a while now, I have the universe and characters greatly developed so far. Creating and writing it shouldn't be a problem for me because (not to blow my own trumpet) I am very imaginative and writing is one of my strong points. The only hurdle now is my drawing skills, which I will practice over the next few years. But on the topic of western manga; how likely do you think it is for a western manga writer to be successful and would you ever read a western manga?

  • Western manga to be successful? hmm I' am not sure, I have yet to read a western style manga. Though I have seen western covers/drawings and they are really different from Japanese manga, which I prefer the Japanese style more. Would I read western manga? yeah sure why not (despite the art). of course only if the story interest me.

  • In France, Wakfu is sold in manga format. What you're taking about is not new.

      • Just as a word of advice, check out the "Nuzlocke comics". their both an example of how stylised art can work incredibly well if your skills of imitating manga style are limited, additionally the style used natural extension of manga's minimalist principles i.e. only show what needs to be shown (the eye's are massive for cuteness and emotional display's, whilst the nose, which reveals little is lacking any emphasis). It is fan made and might give you some good ideas. Also just a general question now, are you familiar with anime character archetypes, if not I would suggest you try and acquaint yourself with them as they are one of the most reliable and repeatable features of any manga. Finally many manga comics are inspired by novels so even if you can't find an artist you could try doing this pm me for an example (the best one I can think of is somewhat adult content and as I don't know your age I would rather not expose you without your confirmation of age).

Im looking for a bento box, it cant be pinku (thats japanese for pink) or any girl color. It has to be of 2 or more kotoba (thats japanese for 2 compartments) and has be be chibi (small) sized. And has to be really kawaii (cute). Also It has to be about 10-20 bux. And you have to post pics of it first (i want to make shure it's kawaii [cute]). And it would be nice if it came with matching chopstick holder (WITH chopsticks). OH! and it CANNOT have any cartoon pictures, or be made out of plastic. It has to be made of ceramic, or something like that. Also it would be nice if it was made in japan. and not in china or corea (korea) or whatever. I have found a bento box similar to the one im describing in e-bay, but it was 1 kotoba, and i dont want my gohan (rice) to touch my other things (it can get wet and i would not like that, plus 2 compartments looks more kawaii)

            • I think if you put enough work into something you can make anything succesful. Im not really that knowledgeable on the whole anime thing but I think you can make it work. Also just flat out disregard anything Onion Beetle/lukeanatr says.

            •
how likely do you think it is for a western manga writer to be successful and would you ever read a western manga?
There's no such thing as a successful western Manga. In order it to be a Manga it has to be produced and distributed in Japan first, and why would Manga publishers fly some kid from the west into Japan to make a manga when they can just get a profession Japanese comic writer to do it?

              • I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure a manga has to be from Japan to be considered a manga.
