Europeans are bigots.

Notice: Before you go off and mute me and report me, I would like that you read what I have to say. Because I'm trying to share something I've noticed, and I'm not trying to offend anyone in the process. So before you go off and threaten to take away all my precious McDonalds and burn my house down with all 127 of my guns in it. I would like you to hear me out. Now, I've noticed that a lot of Europeans don't like the U.S. and not just Europeans, there a lot of people from different countries that don't like the U.S. With good reason, however, our government has done some very...um...controversial things, and if you don't agree with out government and don't like them? Then that's fine, in fact a lot of Americans have an issue with them, I mean congress is filled with people who don't know how to find their own ass, so I have no problem if you dislike our government. The thing that starts to bug me is when people start using those issues they have with the government to hate on Americans themselves. The people who don't have any part of the decision making of said government. In fact, almost every (not everyone, but a lot) person I've met from Europe has something bad to say, not just about the U.S., but about Americans in general. Like I said, not all of them, but quite a lot...and it's not just Europeans, it's people from other countries as well. Now, I've noticed, that they tend to use the issues they have with the government, coupled with stereotypes. Stereotypes (depending on the time and context) aren't *always* a bad thing, when I'm talking to a lot of my non-American friends I'll joke around with stereotypes about the U.S., and they'll make stereotypes about their country and it's all in good fun. However these people I've run into tend to use these things as ways to berate and insult Americans (sometimes not even directly) Every time someone brings up the U.S. in some way shape or form, somebody has to point out what a terrible country it is and it starts a big hullabaloo. American's are as guilty as this as anybody about insulting somebody else's country. Yet the only time I've really seen them do it is when theirs gets insulted first (this is just in my personal experience, I'm sure that there are situations where it's the other way around) which is to be expected, I mean if someone insults your country of course you're going to defend it. The thing is though, I don't know anyone in the U.S. who inherently *hate* any country in Europe, in fact there are people here who adore Europe and the people there. Though I know, and have met, people in Europe who do hate the U.S. and have judged me just by the fact that I'm American. Now, I realize that there are probably people here who do hate Europe (though those people are probably redneck southerns so they don't count) and that there are people in Europe who don't hate the U.S., as I've stated before I also know it's not just Europe I'm just using it as the prime example. Now, we know there are a lot of people who dislike what our government has done, but I don't think that (and the amounts of ridiculous stereotypes) is reason enough to hate the people who live there as well, in fact I don't even think it's reason enough to hate America. If you don't like our government and the things they do, that's fine but that doesn't mean that our country and the people that live there are terrible as well. That's bigotry "Bigotry is the state of mind of a bigot: someone who, as a result of their prejudices, treats other people with hatred, contempt, or intolerance on the basis of a person's ethnicity, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability, socioeconomic status, or other characteristics." Now, I'm sure we're all guilty of this at some point in our lives, and there are bigots here in America too, but I'm not here to discuss that now. I'm here to talk about the many posts I've seen here and all over the internet as well that jump on someone for being American. I've said this before and I'll say it again, if you don't like our government then that's fine, I'm not asking you to worship and love America. All I ask is that you don't judge our country and us based off of a what a few old guys, who sit on their ass all day, in congress do. Our country is a really nice place, with some really nice people here, just give it a chance. I hope you read all the way through that, and I hope you didn't get offended by it either, because that wasn't my goal. If you did get offended, well then I'm sorry, if not I hope I gave you something to think about. I think everyone could work on not judging people based on their nationality (or any part of them besides their personality and their actions) Americans included. Well that was my serious thought for the day...or night...whatever, I'm going to bed now. Forever Yours, Mr. J.E. Deathbot

    • I remember when the nation was urged to hate France because they didn't go into the Iraq war with us. The White House changed "French fries" to "Freedom Fries" and people dumped out their French wine. That was uncalled for by us, and was more than just the government.

I don't hate Americans, I don't hate America and I don't hate your government. What I do hate are all those bigots who seem to think America is the greatest country in the world because of their "freedom" and their military and think that all other countries just want to be America. It's true it's probably the most powerful nation at the moment, but is the the great saviour of the free world? No, it's not. Just about every country in the west has freedom equal to or better than that of America. Europe isn't some backwards ass place that can't keep up with the US' freedoms and human rights, because in reality we've been as free as America for a great deal of time. Taking freedom, military, and human rights out of the equation, what is so great about America that makes it the greatest country on the face of the Earth? At least for citizens living there?

          • Don't think the world hates america ... well other than those counties it invades or threatens. Most view it as a paranoid, greedy, Allie-spying historical artifact - who oddly treats its own citizens with more contempt that it does the rest of the world.

                • Will you all just shut the-diddly-fuck up with this borderline xenophobic, bullshit nationalism? "America is great, every other country sucks!" "America is stupid and so are the people that live there." "(Insert country here) is better than America." "(Insert country here that isn't America) sucks." Do you people even realize how stupid you all sound? First of all, the actions of few don't outweigh the actions of many. Second, every country has it's flaws (some worse and more apparent than others) but no country is perfect and if you think yours is exempt from that then you're quite delusional. Ignorance, bigotry and general asinine stupidity is everywhere and the people that act otherwise are prime examples of that. You're all making yourselves look very retarded and immature when a lot of you really aren't, so stop acting like you are. And another thing I want to mention while I'm in rant mode; If you truly hate something and I mean truly hate, then it would be more productive of your time and energy to not talk about it or even go the extra mile that some of you take by using more time and energy to learn about it. Generally speaking, arguing is a fruitless endeavor, it doesn't accomplish anything and it just becomes a big circle jerk of people calling each other names like some butthurt child. Learn to agree to disagree and stop being such a bigoted douche to others because of their beliefs. If you feel I'm stupid, delusional or any other insulting thing just because I'm a Christian that's okay. I'm perfectly fine with that and I can respect your opinions no matter how much I disagree with them you are human and have every right to your opinion just as I do mine, but at least have the human decency to give me at least a silver of that respect back. /rant

                    • So you made a thread asking people to not be bigots against America, but in the title you said "Europeans are bigots" which means everyone is. Isn't that generalizing which defeats the purpose of this thread? Because you are asking people to stop doing it for America, but you did it against Europeans.

                              • The irony in this thread is simply striking. Telling people to stop generalizing the citizens of your country while generalizing an entire continent? Besides, as a European, I can honestly say I have never met anyone who actually hates the US. As another Floodian once said: "People over here don't hate the US. They just look down on and laugh at it." And, in all honesty, it is kind of true.

I don't know anyone who genuinely hates america/americans. The government and the 'Murika attitude is not something people are too fond of mind you. A lot of it is the usual banter/poking fun at each other, which some countries* take in their stride (The british don't get up in arms over a bad teeth joke or the amount of tea we drink) and others get really quite touchy about (Ahem *America* Ahem) *I mean the people in general here. The americans I know are nice and interesting people, so I haven't got anything against you all.

I shared a flat with an American, amongst other people. She was lovely. She did bring some American friends round though and they trashed the place, so boo to them! However when I have been to the US, everyone was really nice and quite interested in the fact that I was British. I think what you'll find with America is that the individual is usually a great person, far more interested in stuff than the average Brit (which is good I guess, but unnerving in a way too). The nationalism is more apparent and runs deeper than anywhere else in Europe, but that is more of an ingrained thing from childhood so judging people on that is a little harsh. On the whole, they do seem a little ignorant to the rest of the world but then that may well be a product of education and the media (plus the U.S is really rather big). To Europeans the American opinion on a lot of things seem bizarre and/or archaic, and its rampant consumerism clashes with the more socially minded environment here, but there is that thing of judging people through your eyes and standards, which is a little unfair. But in the end, you try to speak English, which is a lot better than the French do

It's really sad that Europeans are actually unable to comprehend this. I really appreciate this thread of yours OP, but there's no point. Talking to Europeans about America is like trying to talk to a stone. They're just too stupid to understand that the US isn't one big hive mind. Like you said, every time someone brings up America, the Europeans go flying off the handlebars and go on these idiotic rage-fests that make themselves look like third graders.
