Posted by: Pyromaniac666 It's a pretty reasonable thing to be concerned about, but I think it's so that the gun you're holding doesn't block the entire screen. If it was where it was, yet the reticle was in the middle of the screen, it would be constantly firing upwards slightly, and MC would have to adjust the angle for range, rather than firing straight. Also, I agree it cuts off the lower part, but that means it's easier to spot enemies if you are on higher ground, which is correct, and allows you to see banshees and Phantoms more easily. Whatever the reason, it's there on purpose.
I'm standing by my reasoning with the melee lunge system, they also breifly mentioned it in the LE DVD with the bulletsgoing below the crosshair slightly, and that was a bug someone was having(they may have moved it for this reason who knows). It would take up less of your screen actually when positioned to the center. Compare this http://media.teamxbox.com/dailyposts/halo3/halo3mpbeta_iraq_03.jpg to the current weapon realistate http://www.bungie.net/images/Games/Halo3/Screenshots/H3_E307_FP01.jpg then tell me why people moaned about the large weapon size in Halo 2 with the crosshair below the center, and not one person did about it in Halo 1, with the crosshair in the middle.
