All that effort for them to just nerf the exotics into uselessness
...Div came out three years ago. We've had plenty of time with it being on top of the meta, and it'll still likely be a good option in a lot of places. Realistically it got hurt way more in dungeons & NF's than in raids
Realistically it got hurt way more in dungeons & NF's than in raids
So like, here's the thing about that. If it's useless in majority of the endgame content where you say it gets hurt, then why the hell would any player without it want to partake in Salvation to get the gun? Seems a bit counterproductive to the raid design don't you think? At this point, might as well just cut Salvation since its a waste of HDD space if the gun is kinda useless in a lot of endgame content or its just outclassed by more readily available gear? Its an astoundingly bad defense. I mean, why on earth would I want to get this gun now, if there's no point in using it in content it was originally designed? We can achieve better results with other weapons that could free up our exotic slot

Problem with that argument is that it already wasn't super widely used in either of those places. Div had a small role cut out in Nightfalls becuase of its intrinsic overload capabilities, but outside of that its not used because of simple math - If Div is giving 30% more damage, but you're losing 1/3 of your team members to use it, you end up losing out on a big chunk of damage. Its meta with a 6 person team cuz the debuff makes up for the lost dps of its user (and then some) when you giver it to 5 people. Point is, yes it'll be less viable in 3 man content, but it already wasn't super widely used there anyway so that's nothing new and its definitely not a result of the nerf. As for why you would use it, I explained this in another comment already. Bosses who are annoying to hit - Rhulk and Warpriest are good examples right off the top - are still gonna be good Div encounters because of its consistency. Yes, you'll sacrifice in terms of your teams optimal damage (i.e. what your damage would be if everyone shot as fast as possible and landed every shot), but chances are you wouldn't hit that anyway due to the boss A.) having small crits, and B.) moving around a lot. Div still gives a ton of consistency in those situations. In encounters where its not hard to hit crits (think Morgeth or Golgoroth), Div wasn't being used anyway - that's typically gonna be a Tether boss.1
