I see everybody complaining about the resource caps but… why? I think this is case of one person saying something then everybody else repeating it despite not actually putting thought into it. I’d honestly like a genuine reason why the current caps are bad other than “Hur dur items shouldn’t have caps”

  • What is the purpose of caps on materials? That's a question I'd like a genuine reason for.

  • Most likely to help with server memory limitations. Bungie doesn’t have infinite space, which is likely why vault space is also capped. Another reason may be the famous destiny spaghetti code. Maybe it can only handle so many materials. It would help explain why destiny moved from tokens to xp, and why the ability to have multiple stacks of items or use the postmaster as storage isn’t possible with some materials.

  • The numerical caps for database entries does make sense to minimize storage requirements and improve CPU performance. Every numerical database entry is capped to an extent. If the CPU architecture is 64-bit, you are capped at whatever number can be represented by 64 bits, but it doesn’t make sense to reserve 8 bytes of storage for every single form of currency, but rather, break up a 64-bit register into chunks of numerical data based on bit position by how much data needs to be stored an accessed. If you reserve a full 64-bit register of memory for each currency, and you have 8 currencies to read, but none of them are over 8-bits long, you still need 8 clock cycles to read all 8 addresses since all 64-bits are reserved for each number. However, if you have one 64-bit register representing the 8 different 8-bit numbers, you reduce the number of clock cycles to read all 8 numbers to 1 clock cycle. Perform that task millions of times and you end up saving a ton on server CPU performance.

  • Ok, I also mentioned the spaghetti code. Can you debunk that one as well?

  • It's too limiting on ur crafting abilities. You can't just go there and craft after u have done the grinding. U have to either grind more or open ur vault pull out saved weapons and finish the deepsight. It just a very unnecessary inconvenience for absolutely no reason, but to extend play time. This is one of my top reasons for not touching crafting.

How many weapons would you have to craft or change the perks on in a row before you reach a point where a material cap would actually hurt the experience? More than most people have ever done altogether since WQ’s launch I’d imagine. I think it’s a non issue currently. The biggest thing is how many neutral elements (whatever it’s called, the one you get 200 of) you need for enhanced perks. I’m at the cap for a lot of materials but still need hundreds of that specific one for an enhanced perk. But is that a problem with caps? How many you get from a deepsight weapon? Or how much it costs for an enhanced perk?

  • Yeah dude, you've answered your own question. It's a waste that I have to siphon out my deepsight resonance for the neutral material, but I lose all the other material because I am at cap for that. Additionally, because of the caps, I now have to just have all these weapons sitting in my vault waiting to be siphoned in case I have some things I want to craft. It's honestly ridiculous.

Yeah but you need so much more neutral material compared to everything else that the caps don’t matter. For example I made an smg with two enhanced perks and swapped out all of the other perks when I ranked it up. Drained a lot of resources. Even though there was a cap on certain materials that didn’t stop me from doing that, and before I had enough neutral material to even think of putting an enhanced perk on something else I was already at the cap for every other material again.

  • What I am saying is once I've gotten all of my patterns done I should be able to go to the forge and craft every weapon that I got patterns done for, I think currently u need 75 of the other elements for just normally crafting one weapon. I should be capped at 250 for each of these elements because what if I want to craft 5 weapons and they all need the same elements. The math would only let me craft 3 and then I would need to go and regrind for literally no reason. Especially if u finished all of ur deepsight for a pattern which for a raid weapon would be 5 for each of them, and then the grind of other read boarder weapons in between. They are literally forcing u to play more if u want to craft anything for absolutely no reason. And then u have to use -blam!- perks on a weapon to upgrade ur crafted weapon which is just another grind for no reason. Crafting is just terrible and not worth it, I got my God rolls and will get new God rolls of new weapons before I finish crafting my first God roll. And most enhanced perks aren't worth ur time.
