I think one of the biggest issues players have is they had a image of a system were you would literally craft a brand new gun with any option they want. Bungie never said that was what was coming.
People overhyped this system and after seeing what they got, which dont get me wrong yea theres not many weapons but the system makes sense with choosing barrel magazines and traits. Yea the mats shouldn’t have caps and theres no excuse for that. But people seem to be angry because what they painted in their heads didn’t happen

After years of that happening over and over, yeah, I can see why players are upset.

You can craft a gun you are interested in and be rewarded for crafting it by getting Enhanced perks. Sorry you cant craft a god roll weapon that you would use for the entirety of the games life span its almost like they would have to do something to make players actually use new stuff (cant say “well they can make that new stuff good” if you can just obtain their perks and put it on your god roll gun and if they made it so new guns have better perks you cant put on old ones then get ready for backlash)

I'd say my only disappointment about crafting is I hoped this was the way to let any energy/heavy weapon have void, arc, and solar versions again. Let me truly invest in a specific weapon by grinding for all three flavors.
