Bungie could solve this issue very easily. 1. Rollback the sunsetting on armor: Armour never had any effect whatsoever on power creep. There was no armor equivalent to Mountaintop. This was nothing more than a blatant attempt artificially inflate play time, with artificial content grind. It is a waste of our collective time. Completely invalidates 5 of the destinations loot pools. Especially in the case of the Dreaming City and the Moon. But if they didn't, I suppose they couldn't just reissue the same iron banner armor to us ad nauseam. Remember when some people actually argued that Bungie would add more to the game and not just reskin everything. I hope those lies you peddled in Bungie's defense blister your throats. Aside from that tangent... 2. Allow weapons to roll with random elements again. Anyone remember D1? That game that did so many things so very well, that Bungie just kind of forgets about until they want to nostalgia bait? Yeah, that one, anyway, this would completely nullify the lack of weapons for archtype/damage type. It's mind boggling that armor, armor, can rolled with random damage types, but not weapons. 3. Unsunset all gear from the Dreaming City, and The Moon, as well as update Devrim's inventory. Gear from an EXPANSION from a year ago should not be useless. No destination's drops, should be useless. You might as well have deleted the entire destination, considering none of the gear drops have any value whatsoever. How could this get the go ahead? How could it go past every single person without someone bringing up what a confoundingly stupid idea it is, or the negative effect it would bring? Have you been breathing glue fumes exclusively? As an aside, you should also add exotic quests to some of the destinations. You did that for Chaperone for the Cosmodrome, and while many players already have these exotics, including a Moon questline for Bad Juju, and a dreaming city questline for Telesto (or whatever) would get new players to engage in those zones. The majority of exotics in the game shouldn't be found in a kiosk. If you want to be real cool, you could also add No Land Beyond and make it a quest from Devrim. But maybe there'd be a balancing issue.
"Two extra months to make sure where ready, haha"
4. Bring back factions: Have it be so when you pledge to a faction, you earn reputation with it like you do with Crucible, except in every activity. This doesn't require any knew items to be made. Update the old items, put them in an inventory. Have two random rolled guns a week. Have the armor purchasable at certain ranks (i.e. rank 3 gives you access to the mark/bond/cloak), or earnable in rank up packages. Put the ship or sparrow in for rank 20 or whatever. Provide shaders for rank up as well. Maybe bring back some of the good ones (i.e. ones from D1) if you're feeling ambitious enough to copy and paste. Update the faction rally weapons (the ones earned for a victory) and ornaments, and have them be a high tier reward, or earned through a questline. "But quests are-" shut up. Just do what you always do, and tie it to some stupid "kill fifteen thousand shanks with a blue sidearm" or "run 777 nightfalls because funny number 7 lol". If you're feeling especially ambitious, bring back the exotic class items. But only at your leisure. Wouldn't want to prompt your studio to get up earlier than 3:00PM to reskin a D1 item. "But we don't want to bring it back if it isn't perfect" horseshit. No one is buying it anymore. Having factions would be a good deal better than not having them at all. And most the crap I highlighted above 👆 would take no effort, and very little time. Most of it is already in the game, just not being used. 5. Realize that Destiny 2 shouldn't be World of Warcraft: Some people like overly elongated grinds, where they repeat the same menial task over and over again. Coincidentally, some people also seem to lack a functioning frontal lobe. I don't want to be passively playing your game. If I wanted to do something passive, I'd watch a movie. More focus on active and engaging content, less time on artificial level grind. 6. Reskin armor from D1's iron banner. Something needs to be done about Iron Banner, because this? This ain't working. Hasn't been working for... how long has this game been out? Iron Banner needs something. Yeah reskins are not what everyone wants, but when dealing with Bungie you tend to get better results when asking for the easier option. D1 armour looked great. Better than anything in D2, by several miles. Bring back the Iron Companion set. Hell, bring it back for the entire year. Every season. As long as I don't need to see anymore of your half assed Samurai-chic. Bring back some of the guns. Stop lazily putting a new symbol in the corner of guns already in the game, and add something not already in the game.
wouldn't be so bad if the armour and weapons (weapons especially) didn't look like shit.
7. Don't sunset any future weapons or armor moving forward. With the rate that Bungie is making weapons, and armour, and the rate at which they are sunsetting them, we will never have a deep loot pool. We will only ever have the bear minimum, if even that. This is especially true for certain weapon types, like bows and LMGs, which never should have been sunset in the first place. Also, special event weapons? Maybe don't sunset those, because now that I know that they have the lifespan of a bottle of ketchup, I really don't care to grind for them. In fact, I really don't care to grind at all. Not with the current state of the game, and not for the current loot. I'd be nicer Bungie, but being nice doesn't really work. Especially since you don't even read the feedback, except to add a charming and oh so witty one liner once every four months, to the most innocuous of posts. You've had all of my patience, and more than enough of my time. Hello to anyone who actually read this text block. There is no TL;DR, so you're just going to have to forfeit the immense knowledge that I deigned to share, or bear through my sardonic ramblings.
As an aside, can you change dragonfly back to firefly, and also allow kinetic weapons to roll with it again? I just like to watch the flash and the fire.
I'll do your TLDR for you.... ignore any realities of what it takes to make and maintain Destiny and make the game exactly the way I want it or you're lazy... abandon any vision you might have for the future of the game and just slap a bandaid on the things that I don't like or you're lazy... do the things I want you to, even if they run contrary to what you're trying to achieve, don't worry about story (because I don't) and make everything about loot or I'll insult you and call you lazy ... how was that?
there were some ideas in there I'd agree with - but many I wouldn't - your armchair developer "cut and paste" conception of development, and overall attitude of contempt just tends to invalidate the obviously serious effort you put into it - too bad
•
I'll do your TLDR for you....
The four ellipses are how you demonstrate true character. Bravo on not settling for three. Great stylistic choice. Really gets the blood flowing in anticipation.
ignore any realities of what it takes to make and maintain Destiny and make the game exactly the way I want it or you're lazy...
Oh, you're too kind. I'm so glad you're writing something done in good faith, that'll accuse me of saying what I said in bad faith. Hypocrisy is my favourite currency.
abandon any vision you might have for the future of the game and just slap a bandaid on the things that I don't like or you're lazy...
Oh yes. Tell me this, is the inherent hypocrisy of taking the moral high ground while simultaneously straw manning my arguments lost on you, or do you just choose to ignore it. Tell me this as well, what vision does Bungie have for this game, and, pray tell, how does making every destination except two (one a rehashed D1 map) entirely useless play into that? Perhaps you could also expand on how ignoring factions plays into that? Or, rehashing the same Iron Banner weapons and armor every. Single. Time. Is part of their 'vision'. You imply integrity to a company keeping this game on life support, while funneling its revenue into other IPs. The integrity of a company that makes excuse after excuse for why their expansions aren't going to have much content, yet still expect you to pay full price. Spare me your sycophantic ramblings, and vain attempts at moralistic superiority.
do the things I want you to, even if they run contrary to what you're trying to achieve, don't worry about story (because I don't) and make everything about loot or I'll insult you and call you lazy
Or not. Idem.
... how was that?
About the same quality that I would come to expect from someone who makes a habit of prostrating themselves to Bungie, at the cost of their dignity.

there were some ideas in there I'd agree with - but many I wouldn't - your armchair developer "cut and paste" conception of development, and overall attitude of contempt just tends to invalidate the obviously serious effort you put into it - too bad

I was unaware that you were the judge of valid or invalid opinions? That you alone held the keys to what argument was valid or not? All while simultaneously engaging in myriad fallacies. I myself indulge in ad hominems at the expense of perhaps professionalism (this was surely meant to be a peer reviewed dissertation. Pity.), so the accusation of contempt? Oh its true. Entirely. A heavy layer of cynicism and contempt become common when someone continuously fails to deliver on what they promise. So I suppose, if that truly offends, then draw your sword, noble defender of the pajama developers, and the mighty gnome. Let all who criricize perish under the holy blade of your self-righteousness. Just before you do silence us all with your majesty, defender of the bunglers, arbiter of opinions, inheritor of morality; I have one last, nagging question. Does your brobdingnagian ego prevent you from noticing your own conceit? You come out here, with all this bluster, with all this moralizing, and a superiority complex. So radiant, and full of self-righteous indignance, that you'd make the pope blush. You come out so strong, and just exploding with intellectual superiority, and... add utterly nothing to the conversation. I hope it's occured to you that this, this is just me having fun, making fun of you. Because the only thing more fun to poke fun at than Bungie, are the people who get offended on their behalf. Couple that with someone who takes himself far too seriously, and we arrive at you.
Thanks for being a good sport. I hope you have a very pleasant day.
•
1. my finger slipped
Hello again, dear friend. I thought, after reading the latest bit of Bungie news, that I ought to bless you with my presence, once more. Besides, I'd forgotten that you had the last word, and I'm too petty for that.
2. it's a TLDR - not a rebuttal of every point
Oh yes, I'm aware. Rebuttals tend to have substance, or some reason for being rather than simple moralistic grandstanding. Though the latter has certainly been mistaken for it in the past.
3. isn't categorizing my judgment of someone else's work a bit like pot calling the kettle black?
It would be, if I was the one whose entire comment centered around not doing it. That's why I called it hypocrisy, you see. Because, well, you see, you're a hypocrite, because you negated your own premise through your words. I've always made it clear that being sardonic was why I'm here.
4. your post exhibits too much edgy, comedic hate for me to believe that I wouldn't be wasting my time to address each point directly
Yours exhibits all the pleasant character of sandpaper on skin, but with a bit more pretentiousness. Even still, I bothered to reply to its baffling mediocrity.
5. loot is not one of my priorities
Yes, your only priorities are defending the honor of faceless corporations. I know.
6. so just so I'm clear... you didn't like my TLDR...?
No. While it certainly could have been worse, it lacked any defining characteristics, which made it utterly banal and bereft entertainment. Could have used more edgy comedic hate. I'd rather you just lay into me with your best insults than provide a lecture on why being mean to an incompetent company is bad.
... bummer
Indeed.

I don't hate any of your ideas... I think many of them are like putting a bandaid on a broken arm... I think the resources would be better spent elsewhere... I also think your accusations of laziness are wrong and uninformed.

You're right. Instead they should focus on removing more content. Like... oh yes, supers... and... exotics... you know, you really did find something with your overuse of ellipses, it's just so darn fun. Oh, but right, sorry. Back on topic. Yes, removing supers that have fallen behind. Spectacular display of the hard working environment at Bungie. Or whatever it is you actually believe goes on there that doesn't involve them wearing Pajamas until four in the afternoon, and not playing their own game. Hey, maybe just for you, they'll cancel trials again, because nothing in this silly game works like it's supposed to.

now that you've been schooled I'm sure you will enjoy the game much better

Two replies, and the best you could come up with was "hah I schooled you". I'm not sure if that was meant to be ironic humour or not. Do you... um, do you want to try again? You could probably find something online... Were... were you bullied a lot? Hm. I... Hm. I'm at a complete loss for words. If that was ironically meant to be lame, then I applaud you because that... I mean...

  • Ah. My apologies. I thought you possessed the cognitive abilities to remember things from six days ago. Clearly an overestimation on my part. I'm going to abstain from any further comments. It's in poor taste to belittle you further.

  • I agree with kinda everything except point 7. If Bungie isn’t going to refresh vendors like they should and add the necessary loot to DLCs, then yeah. No sunsetting in this case. If Bungie does choose to add the necessary weapons to DLCs, then no. Sunset.

  • Lots of stuff can be solved by bringing factions back and letting us select our drops like in D1. Gives more reason to grind, let's you look for specific loot or rolls, and could be refreshed relatively easily. And it would make the season pass grind more fun rather than just a bounty sink

  • 'The lifespan of a bottle of ketchup' lmfao love it. So true. Sunsetting will kill this game. So irritating to see all the great weapons i used to use in my vault, not even pinnacles, that are now collecting dust because of some arbitrary stupid decision.

  • Oh right. I knew I was missing something. Strime specific loot. And yeah, most of the guns in the game weren't breaking anything. Most were mediocre at best, but they still added substance to the game.

About that last little thing - sorry, but kinetics will never get dragonfly or firefly ever again. Remember how Warlocks have that exotic called Chromatic Fire? As long as it exists, Bungie will never put that perk on kinetics.

  • Well that does it. We'll just have to throw the whole thing out. Warlocks, I mean. In seriousness, I don't see why not. If it adds firefly to a kinetic weapon, then you have a bonus perk, and don't need to look for a weapon with firefly. It still adds something, and provides an advantage. Further, they could just make it so the firefly effects are amplified when the gun does have it. I feel like I've defended what was meant as a throw away line a bit too much at this point.

  • Lmao it’s all good. And by all means I certainly do think Chromatic Fire could still have a place. But looking at it from Bungie’s perspective - I’m just saying that I don’t think they will do it, not that they shouldn’t.

  • Well, if we're talking about what Bungie will do, they're more than likely just going to put out the same community post saying "we heard you, we kind of messed up, but not really because we never actually make mistakes. Shut up, it'll get better in the future, maybe. Buy eververse stuff."
