Anyone played Elder Scrolls Online?

Already picked up Division 2 when it was on sale, have the excellent Monster Hunter World, but I may want another game to fill the void from Destiny. It's about that time I walk away from this game for a few months as I've done numerous other times, just curious of ESO is enjoyable or is it like a generic Skyrim skin over destiny quality levels? Or are they actually top notch like in Monster Hunter? [spoiler]Moderator edit: This thread has been moved to #Offtopic, a more appropriate forum for this offtopic discussion. • Played it back in vanilla. It’s a pretty solid game, as long as you have a solid internet connection. Even better if you have a few friends to form into a raiding party. When I played, I had neither, but it was still neat. The base game is only like $8, might as well pick it up and try it out.

  • I loved Skyrim and destiny for a time. I did NOT enjoy ESO. So if you’re using those games as a benchmark, ESO is not really comparable. The combat basically boils down to cycling between your abilities, without any skill in terms of aiming. If you enjoy customizing into a particular niche - DPS, support, healer - and grinding easy, similar quests to level up, and you don’t mind that the combat isn’t very fun or challenging, then you may enjoy it.

  • It's not as smooth as Skyrim, but if someone has expectations that a game that is designed to be an MMORPG is going to have the same level of smoothness as a single player RPG, they have some really high expectations. It's still a good game to play. I'm running around as a Necromancer right now in it, and the community seems to be pretty tightly-knit, especially if someone is good at being a support in a party. I haven't really had a negative experience in ESO compared to some negative experiences I've had in Destiny 2, and a lot of negative experiences in something like GTA Online and The Division.

    • Elder Scrolls Online had more content at launch than both Destiny games and all their overpriced dlc combined. The gameplay is definitely clunkier though. It also plays nothing like Skyrim.

      • I had it when it first came out, but just couldn't get invested into it. Division 2 is a good game, though it does get boring after awhile, so usually just jump on with clan to run for exotics and raids every so often, but it's a game you can get away with taking breaks from, looking forward to the new NYC expansion. Currently testing Halo MCC on PC, sooooo many fun memories coming back.

      • I enjoy it a lot, there is a ton of quality content, and the leveling/progression is very very good. My only real gripe with the game is that the combat isn't great. It's not bad, it's just not good either.

      • ESO is a good game for the game world and the storytelling. The problem I have with the game is that the combat and gameplay is a bit clunkly compared other open world games

just downloaded ESO, actually... i've got a copy of ESGOY i'll be replaying in tandum i've reached end game in D2 and most of it is simply annoying, not terribly difficult but piss poor level design and difficulty mechanics that seem to have been designed by a 12 year old in a sadistic mood. I've never played a game that is so consistently annoying in end game. it's very odd. soooo i'll keep D2 installed for a bit and see if anything interesting pops up, if not, i'm gone also playing middle earth: shadow of war..... talk about fun combat!! oh my !

I've played it. I think it's better than MHW, though they try to cram far too much capability into the controller. Some people like all of the options available, but I think it's kind of a mess to memorize unless you're going to make that your primary game. Like WoW (at least how WoW used to be some years ago), crowded zones get herky jerky as frame rates drop precipitously, but most play is pretty smooth.

          • It’s pretty good. Beefy content, lots of ground to explore, solid story. Console or PC, I like it. Like the one dude said, the monthly sub is nice if you can spare the money. Not having the resource space can be a pain if you try building more then one crafting skill at a time. If you like Elder Scrolls games, you’ll like this.

Its a legit MMO RPG and what I would want for Destiny but people would shit themselves if Destiny was like ESO. Very VERY good game and there is a SHIT TON to do. Even the base game without any DLCs... there is a SHIT TON to do. Im not kidding. Imagine a ton of SHIT but then add 5 more TONs on top of that. But be prepared to fork over some money if you wanna look cool and to customize your house. The reason I dont play it is due to personal reasons. If Im not there for the beginning, which I was but left😭, I cant constantly play it. I regret leaving and not sticking through it like I did with Destiny.

            • I've been playing ESO for the past few weeks and I'm having a very good time with it. Games been out for quite awhile so the amount of things to o so is pretty silly. They have more dungeons alone than story quests in destiny. And the amount of quests and exploration to do is actually quite daunting. Once you hit lv50 you have the champion point system that allows you to keep leveling up to CP 810. Gear hits a ceiling at CP160. Dozens of skill lines to level up and try. Hundreds of armor sets to collect and try builds with. Actual class system that allows for hundreds of variations of builds, like a sorcerer healer or a healer tank. Dungeons have hard modes plus veteran mode. Then the u have 12 person dungeons called trials for actual END game. This is the stuff you need a fleshed out character for. Heavy mechanics that do require knowledge. World bosses that are pretty difficult early on, but are pretty easily doable with just a few people. Two types of DPS builds, magica and stamina. Hybrid builds require better gear but are still doable, and with the upcoming changes, even more so. Honestly you can get the base game and no DLC and still have a solid year or gaming in front of you. I'm at work so I don't have as much time to explain everything but you get the jist.

            • I haven’t played FF14 but I’ve played a little bit of ESO on PS4 and it’s pretty good. Better than your usual MMO and you can make your females extra thicc. It’s got good class diversity and it’s beautiful. When I build a new PC this Spring I’ll definitely grab is as I go marine it’s much better on PC than PS4. I hear FF14 is much better and I really wanna try that.

              • I think enjoying ESO depends on 2 major things. Are you into deep lore with quests that build on it? Are you more of a person that cares for endgame content. If you're into lore and stories you will enjoy it. There are a lot of missions that are filled with lore. You will find a lot of sidequests that branch off into some cool stories. There is a deep crafting system if you're into making custom gear. There are also gear sets to grind for that are more powerful than things you can create. You have the option of running most content solo or with a friend. There are some missions that are solo only such as the Main Quest, Mages Guild, and Fighters Guild questlines. I can't speak much for the endgame as I've mostly played questlines. I got far on PS4. I think I'm CP289. I just started up on PC a few months ago. The QoL change on PC was well worth it. It is a bummer to regrind all my crafting skills though. I had everything but Nirhorn on PS4.

              • ESO has kind of a steep learning curve, but once you figure out how to weave attacks and what's important for builds, I like it more than FF14.

It's not bad at all. I soloed a few classes to max. Dungeons are always accessible with ingame LFG. Endgame is alright ..if not easy. PVP may be the real endgame though. The atmosphere is Elder Scrolls. Navigation is easy. If you become enthralled with the game, ES+ is cool. It's Free, so it cant hurt to give it a go. If not, delete it and try something else. I grabbed Div2 also. Its definitely worth $3.

                • The Division 2 is $2.99 USD right now. 😂 Its good, but Massive screwed everyone over when they disabled perk bonus stacking. I've played quite a bit of ESO. It's "good" too, but it's just another "spend more money for things that should be in game rewards" live service game. If you like Elder Scrolls, you'll like ESO. I'd join a clan though. Solo play takes way too long.
