Bungie posted this to their list of known issues in #help. Please check #help for updates.
Further, this is an instance-specific issue. If you get a broken instance, do anything to cause an instance change. Each time you change instance, recheck. No single specific action can cause a fix other than to change the instance you are on. All reported “fixes” merely “work” only because the end result is an instance change.
Note: an “instance” is the game server you are connected to for whatever activity you have entered. Destiny is comprised of thousands of instance servers, each limited to a finite number of player connections. In Destiny, when you drop down from orbit, you enter a pool of instances of variable size based on your geographic location. Cycling instances quickly (fast-travel, crossing zone boundaries) moves your connection through the pool. If after 4-6 cycles you still don’t have the instance you need, orbit and return to invoke a new pool and repeat the process.
This can take some time.

Edited by Ryoga303: 12/21/2019 3:38:59 AMAll you really accomplished was a roundabout means of changing the instance server you were connected to when you returned to the EDZ obelisk. The fact is, the obelisk is an object with a buggy interaction-enabling collider; there are many instances, each with a different obelisk that is or is not broken. When it becomes non-interactive, just change to a different instance (until you find one that isn’t broken). I was in the EDZ obelisk’s menu interacting just fine with it. A nearby public event started up, all was still good. I heard some players transmat in next to me, all was good for a few moments. I brought up my character sheet to check the collection badge to identify whether the obelisk offered any guns I needed. It did, so I backed out of the character sheet to return to the obelisk menu. Suddenly, the top bar (showing the engram-to-earn icon) completely vanished. The lower two bars were still fine (rewards and link/unlink). Out of curiosity, I dismissed the menu. Sure enough, the obelisk collider broke. I could not interact again with it. I had to fast-travel twice to get on a healthy instance. Any means you use to change your instance will accomplish the same result. Some means are faster than others (like fast-traveling to the same point several times).

Okay it's nice that it's a known issue but when the hell is it getting fixed because we got this event going on that's for a limited time and we can't interact with Saint 14 to finish the event this is something that shouldn't be known it should be fixed right away
