Teenagers tend to think that they either know everything....or that they know everything worth knowing.
When the reality is that most teenagers actually have very little life experience (compared to what you'll amass when you're older). It is that level of arrogance and self-assurance that is out-of-proportion to actual experience that can make teenagers so infuriating to deal with.
...and its out of that that "Ok Boomer" arises.
This coming from someone who used to roll his eyes at his parents when he was 14, who now (when he's 50) realizes that his parents know more than he realized....and that he was a hell of lot dumber and more naive than he realized at the time.

To be fair, the majority of us just say it to anyone and everyone. Including other zoomers. No, especially other zoomers
Teenagers tend to think that they either know everything....or that they know everything worth knowing.
Humanity tends to think that they either know everything....or that they know everything worth knowing.
When the reality is that most teenagers actually have very little life experience (compared to what you'll amass when you're older).
Most humans regardless of age still retain that level of arrogance and self-assurance.
This coming from someone who used to roll his eyes at his parents when he was 14, who now (when he's 50) realizes that his parents know more than he realized....and that he was a hell of lot dumber and more naive than he realized at the time.
It is best to be humble at any age. Ignorance does not discriminate in regards to age.

" You can have 30 years experience once....or one year's experience 30 times". Unfortunately some people opt for the latter.

On the flipside it is rather tiresome to hear "just work hard like I did" from someone who had free (or near as damnit) higher education, a cheaper housing market, higher real term wages etc etc. Thats where "Ok Boomer" came from IMO, and in that situation, if the "Boomer" refuses to acknowledge the differing circumstances of life, then its fully warranted.

Millennials got a RAW -blam!-ING deal from the economy and a system that the Baby Boom Generations greed and immature BROKE. Like Climate Change, the attitude has been "We've got ours, screw you." So---in that regar---their anger and cynicism has been come by honestly. As a Gen Xer, I know because I've been helpless in the fight against it politically. There just aren't enough people in my generation. I'm old enough to remember a time in this country when corporations won't this powerful. When our politicians weren't this corrupt...and "news organizations"didn't operate as political propaganda machines for political parties. True Boomers dont' get it. This wasteland is the result of their apathy, cynicism, and greed. They arrogantly set out to destroy the very social contract they themselves took advantage of, then have the nerve to get mad when their kids can't figure out how to make what they BROKE, work somehow. But what's done is done. You wont' get far picking fights with them, and trying to change the past. Fight for the future. Fight to UNWIND what they've done. You will nearly have as much political power as they did....but you have to be willing to mobilize and USE it.

Social media needs to crack down on bots and fraudulent accounts then. I've seen them deployed by both the Left Wing ("I'm Jewish and Corbyn isnt an anti-semite" regardless of the truth of that, loads of those were clearly fake accounts) and the Right Wing ("My sisters friend is a nurse at Leeds Hospital and that boy wasnt placed on the floor" tonnes of different accounts tweeting that verbatim). Politics has always had a degree of dishonesty, but nowadays its beyond the pale IMO.
-
Agreed. ...and its because you no longer have an objective media to filter out the noise and educate the public. As a result politics has deteriorated from spin...to just outright lies and disinformation. Both sides are bad, but the Right is exponentially worse than the Left here in the US.

Edited by Bieltan: 12/16/2019 8:00:18 PMI'd say the Right Wing is worse here too, though the Left is worse than people seem to think
-
At the fringes, sure. The difference is that the Lefts lunatics don’t run the asylum. But a trend that I find disturbing is this increasing attitude on the Left towards the Rights excesses of: Cant beat ‘em? Join ‘em!
