I believe based on my experiences in the freelance playlist and after discussions with players I've messaged after matches, is that this system uses something similar to ELO averaged out across the team.
It's not a individual skill system but a cumalitive skill averaged across all 3 teammates and then matched against a similarly averaged opponent team (but not factoring rank), which on paper may sound fair, the only thing is it isnt.
Essentially you could have a single High skill Legend ranked player with two players down in Brave versus 3 at Fabled rank because the averages match. This is the only way to explain whilst in the low 100's for Glory I and others are facing players above 4000.
The game thinks this is fair because the averages are a close match. Thing is that's potentially 1 player carrying vs 3 players of average skill or above. That might pan out, but more times than not it won't.
Matchmaking for me at the moment is almost instantaneous, I could cope with it taking a bit longer to truly match players at a similar skill level within similar ranks. This current system is feeling brutal to a just about average player like myself and there is zero learning curve for new systems and what works weapon wise in the new playlist.
I am really struggling to see why in 5yrs you haven't nailed a serious competitive skill matching system - it just seems like you're trying stuff out all the time. For all our sanity please start listening on competitive feedback and give us a true skill matching system for competitive.
