I don’t want to have what loot I use so heavily dictated by a rigid leveling and pursuit system in a looter shooter. It being a game with a heavy emphasis on loot is precisely why this is such a bad system. When the player spends a lot of time and effort masterworking gear with good perks that can generate orbs, why should they suddenly be relegated to lesser blue autos and scouts with a single undesirable perk? It’s a backwards system with arbitrary ability penalties. At best it becomes a materials grind for the sake of being able to upgrade the coveted loot the player spent the last season or even year continually bringing up because they like it and do well with it.

Except that’s how 90% of looter shooters work...? I can’t think of a loot game where you don’t out level your gear and have to use new gear. Most don’t even let you being up said gun, you have to grind for a new one. I get likeing a specific gun and wanting to use it, but that kinda defeats the point of a looter shooter where you only stick to 3 guns. Might as well play another game. But I get it. Some people feel the way you do. 🤷🏼♂️ my personal favorite part of destiny is new dlc’s where you have to use new loot. It’s refreshing instead of using my x gun with 20k kills on it.

Edited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 10/3/2019 2:56:11 AMWhat new gear? The entire new campaign and soft cap leveling process will be blues and Y2 legendary weapons. There is no new gear to try. There are no new world drops. And it’s not just three guns. I use more than just three guns. It’s ALL of them. They are ALL stuck at the previous cap without infusion. As an example of a loadout, I’m saying is that there’s a big difference between a mastwrworked Blast Furnace with Feeding Frenzy and Kill Clip, Subtle Calamity with dragonfly and a dragonfly spec, and Thunderlord.....and a blue hand canon with pulse monitor, a blue auto with zen moment, and blue grenade launcher with auto loading holster. Especially when you’re suddenly doing activities where your power level matters again. There aren’t even blue bows or machine guns for someone that prefers those weapons. We earned and cultivated our loadouts and then are arbitrarily asked to forego our efforts and rewards for a period of time or do tedious material grinding to keep them relevant every step of the way when new content drops. That’s just a bad model in my opinion. I like to try out new gear..... on my terms. On patrol, where if it’s crap it doesn’t negatively effect me. I wouldn’t test something unknown out on harder difficulties in any other game. I don’t like feeling like I more or less have to here.

Your right. But you only need to use those at end game activities, where your 950 light. Not during a story mission that’s only 10 light above you. And I’m all for being up your old gear when you want to min max. At max light. It’s unnecessary at this point. It’s not hard enough to require that. But if you want to burn through materials just to use a gun you can use in a few hours so be it 🤷🏼♂️

Edited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 10/3/2019 3:39:45 AMNot the point. It’s a system that arbitrarily and unnecessarily negates previous player accomplishments for a period of time. They talk about “playing our way” but this is very much the opposite of that. It’s more than a few hours for anyone that didn’t hoard mass amounts of tokens so they could hit the soft cap nearly immediately. For people that can’t play constantly due to life. It is what it is. I can’t imagine arguing against something that would put more choice in players hands, but you do you I guess. 🙄
