Solo players...how much exclusion can you take?

I'm a solo player

I'm a fire team Player

Solo player here. Love the game and everything in it that allows me to solo. Matchmaking activities are great. However, I absolutely hate the idea of and will never be getting a "fire team" together to run certain non match making activities. This excludes me from many activities that lead to pinnacle and exotic weapons and I am ok with that for now. I also fully understand the psychological and other aspects of why Bungie pushes and promotes fire teams. As a solo player I have my limits on how much content I am excluded from because I choose to play solo. If content exclusion get's to the point that I personally feel the game is just not worth the money for me, then I will begrudgingly spend it somewhere else. I bought the first Destiny on day one and have bought every single expansion from D1 and D2 since then. Love the game but in the end, if Bungie doesn't want my money that's ok. Also just wondering how many other solo's are in the community. Solo...signing out.

I'm a solo player but just too lazy to get a fireteam together. I could but I don't. The only things I can't really do are Raids and things like Zero Hour. Nightfalls are a bit less difficult than a Halo Reach mission on Solo Legendary All Skulls On (SLASO). I know I'm missing out though, so I'll definitely get to it some time. Nightfall clip and screencap below in OneDrive (sorry the clip's a bit buggy) https://1drv.ms/u/s!AtEnWoc6scDghaAUWsahToODEoE9OQ?e=iIEjLe And for the record, Xol, at least you were a little challenging this time around ha ha :P

“It’s a team game.” Yes, but no. - creates character and starts and is introduced to the story solo - can easily do the entire story solo - most activities have matchmaking - the game is chocked FULL of pursuits that players accomplish individually(solo), even while participating on a team while in a competition, which fundamentally makes no sense The game is..... inconsistent. You start the game solo and the vast majority of the game can be played solo or via matchmaking which is fine with the vast majority of “solo” players(including myself), but then there are the major activities with unique loot, which are often the pinnacle of a story arc(that many did solo) or the pinnacle activity of a season.... suddenly cannot be done solo and either doesn’t or can’t have matchmaking. Also there’s PvP and it is sometimes arbitrarily required for quests that provide lore through exotics. That’s...... again, inconsistent. The game tries to be too many things at once and as a result it breeds community division and even resentment. This could easily be rectified by providing alternate versions of those few activities that can be done “solo” via matchmaking and that balance amount of rewards or the acquisition of a single special reward against challenge or time investment. Whether they want to admit it or not, the game they have made has attracted VERY different types of gamers. They need to either acknowledge that and create content accordingly or they need to go hard in one direction or the other. Destiny is “Jack of all Trades, Master of None: The Game” which isn’t the greatest model to work with. It also doesn’t help that they design themselves into corners by making everything so rigidly specific.

It’s primarily a multiplayer game. I understand your frustration, but it is kinda like getting mad that soccer needs two teams. I’m not saying “play a different game”. Or “Adapt”. But this game can’t be everything, there are limitations.

    • So every complaint in this post is pretty much people excluding themselves from activities because they do not know how to deal with people or use the tools available to them because they do not find them convenient.
I can promise you that this thread has every single shitty Gambit player you've ever played with in it.
• By their own actions and comments, Bungie has made it abundantly clear that they do not want and really hate solo players. They design the game to discourage solo play by withholding OP items and content by making it unobtainable unless you assemble a fireteam. They know individuals in a fireteam will pressure other fireteam members to play more often which contributes to the game addiction that they want players to have to insure consistent revenue. Let me explain. So as a solo trying to have fun and enjoy the game, you come across a player with a certain OP weapon that wrecks your world and kills your fun. You then decide, hey, I would like to have that weapon because not having it is wrecking my fun. You start the necessary quest line to obtain the OP weapon. While completing the questline you find objectives that essentially require fireteams to complete. So, no fireteam...no weapon and you continue to be harassed by the OP weapon holders. Bungies way of giving solo players the middle finger for not becoming a little fireteam addict with blood shot eyes who pours 20+ hours a week of their life into their addiction. Bungie simply hates solo players and sadly, it looks like this will not change.

I personally don’t mind. It means I won’t get some exotics and weapons but that’s about it. I have never done a raid in this game but I know that if I wanted to I could with LFG.

    • I am like you, i like to play, but solo and try everything. It is one of the big reasons i am not playing as much. Bungie are never going to listen to us, so if like me your fed up, do not buy the next expansion. I am done with these condescending game makers. Bungie tops it for me.

On the 4 occasions I have played raid for example, there's always a couple of attention seeking loud mouths and at least one troll like ass hole. Who gets angry because you haven't completed the raid a trillion times like they have. Because they're so amazing and the best and blah blah blaaaaaaah 🤮 Completely puts me off raids and nightfalls.

          • I don’t mind playing with people on a fireteam but lots of people in this community are hard to deal with. On one hand you have squeakers that have a hard time understanding basic mechanics and refuse to admit when they were wrong or messed something up. On the other we have the people who take this game way too seriously. I get that you want to get stuff done in a timely manner, but that doesn’t give you license to be a d!ck for no reason. I’m a fairly easygoing person, but these two groups have driven me to be more of a solo player in D2.

          • Solo, but that doesn't mean I won't play with others. I simply refuse to go outside of the game to get it to work. Honestly I find it strange that they don't have more perks/rpg mechanics that allow players to bypass some issues you would have as a solo player. Say for instance re spawning, and ghost perks related to that. You choose perks better suited to whatever your situation favors, solo play being the one here.
There's actually a lot of potential for ghost perks to shine in the revive department and this game has squandered a lot of potential.
• I'm fine with fireteam activities but the problem is that the game demotivates to group up because... You cant unless you go to third party app. You cant land to the tower and shout: "yo boyz whos up for nightfall or something?". Its so weird. It seems that chat is too strong and it had to be nerfed prelaunch.

Bungie claims this is a “social” game, yet doesn’t provide the proper tools for us to be sociable. Why is the LFG feature on an external app and not in-game? Why isn’t *optional* matchmaking introduced to more activities like the nightfall? I’m a 40 year old guy. I don’t have pages and pages of gamer friends to call on. I appreciate that some challenges require a fire team. Currently I hit up LFG on Xbox but it’s not ideal. The method for connecting with other guardians should be in the game.

                • I love the amount of people who think additional options that balances rewards based on challenge and time investment would be “catering” to a specific group. People just want options and there’s nothing wrong with that. This game tries to be too many genres at once, it’s not unreasonable to ask for it to actually acknowledge and appeal to that fact about itself.

                • You're a solo player in a multiplayer game but that's fine, that's your choice. How can you seriously complain when a multiplayer game actually tries to encourage you to play with multiple players. Plenty of players want to complete activities with their mates and there should be activities that they can complete as a group but to water those activities down so solo players can do them as well it takes away from any satisfaction you get from them.

                • MMO= Massively Multiplayer Online Game. I don't think we should cater to the people that hinder themselves by just playing solo when Destiny is significantly more multiplayer oriented. If you want to do a raid, suck up your solo pride and find an lfg post or make one. Hell, join a clan and have them help you. The idea of watering down activities so they can all be soloed is just plain stupid. I can understand in comp since you've got a straight disadvantage against a 4 stack with good communication, but a raid is off the table. All in all, if you want to be a solo player, go for it, but don't try and ask for things specifically designed for you just because you don't want to take 5 minutes to find a fireteam.

                  • First off, I'm primarily a solo player. I do everything I can including crucible, gambit, etc alone. However, at the end of the day, I know this game was designed to be cooperative. I've played Destiny since the beta of D1 and I found the limits of a solo experience. Eventually, I broke down and joined a clan back in D1 and that opened all of the doors. I still did most things solo or with my wife and son, but we would look to the clan for raids and occasionally iron banner. I've experienced a few LFGs and they were rather hit and miss but the clan experience was overall a great opportunity. Don't sell yourself or Destiny short by hard sticking to the solo experience. Find a clan, do the raids and you'll thank yourself later.

                  • Why in the world would you think that destiny would cater to solo desires???? I'm a multiplayer guy. Should I go to the witcher 3 forums and whine about how it doesn't offer me highly-cooperative, teamwork oriented, farmable activities that require communication? I'd probably look like a bit of an idiot if I did, wouldn't I? Yep. Yes I would... .... .....

                  • Destiny 1 game jacket : Single player, online required, 1-12 players. Destiny 2 digital download from PS store: online required. Nothing about needing to download the destiny app or needing to head to the forums for clan, lfg, etc. Think the game attracts alot of solo, single player gamers simply because of the scifi theme and Bungies really good with their pregame launch hype. Honestly, think they might be better off making Destiny movies. As for my Destiny experience: Have clan but play either mostly solo or in a party of 3. We don't even bother with the raids anymore, too hard to get 6 of us on at the same time and have no desire to lfg. Think Bungies been going in the right direction lately but starting to feel it may be alittle to late. For us, the game really needs some quality endgame 3 man content not locked behind a set number of weekly resets and not the one and done for exotic quest steps and such. Maybe mini raids without the emphasis on mechanics so much so they can leave it open to match making.

I would like matchmaking to be optional for just about everything. I'd like to be able to turn off matchmaking entirely in order to solo Vanguard Strikes, it's why I don't normally play them during peak hours. I'd also enjoy being able to turn on matchmaking for Nightfalls sometimes.

It would be great if the Blind Well, Nightfalls and Raids operated similar to how Strikes, the Forges and the Menagerie works. You just launch the activity and you’re paired up with anyone else looking (and yes, the quality of these matches will vary). Players still have the option of forming fireteams to run these activities. I’ve unfortunately had zero luck with the Beta Raid feature and the Fireteam feature through the Companion app has been hit and miss at best.

                          • I'm definitely solo for purely mental reasons, I just don't enjoy the company of other people, but I get the drive to make the game a more co-op experience. What makes this fundamentally flawed, is how difficult it is to find that experience. I don't expect crossplay to ever become a thing. But I'm an Xbox player in a friendgroup of mostly PC players. I have no reason to switch, friends included, so I'm going to continue playing on Xbox. I've done that since 2014. As of now, the game still has no truly dedicated voice communication system. I think there's the whole fireteam chat thing with the dpad, but I've used it all of once outside of accidentally pressing the button and I'm assuming it's the same for everyone else in the community. Remember in Halo 3 or COD lobbies how easy it was to strike up conversation, though most of it nasty? Imagine that in D2. Would still be nasty, but you'd at least get some talk going. This is of course an obvious one, but we're still missing the industry standard for MMO type games of an ingame method of searching for teams other than horrible systems like Guided Games. The Xbox game search works wonderfully, I'll say that much, but it should still be in game. There's nothing inherently wrong with pushing for a more unified experience, where we walk hand in hand towards kicking some alien ass. What is wrong, is expecting that experience to flourish with nothing to facilitate it. If or when we receive Destiny 3, it's going to need to include systems like those above, find a way to facilitate this community or DROP IT. Solo has worked well so far and I see no reason to make that experience all the more difficult if you're not going to create avenues through which players like myself and many others can find meaningful, long lasting experiences and friendships that are better than the solo experience.
