Yep effectively triple rng. Rng for base stats, then element and finally for the correct rune to drop.
Mathematically this is an impossible grind unless this is your day job.
Like Smith has literally made a game exclusively for Datto.

Menagerie might ease everyone’s concern if you’re able to choose the element you want on armor.
-
Edited by Penhalion Wolfe: 8/16/2019 1:53:34 PMGuarantee that will not help. Example. You want to slot one handgun and one combat bow mod. Both are for gloves. Guess what. Due to elemental affinity this becomes impossible. The new system actually forces set builds. It is an illusion of choice that fails purely because of deliberate elemental affinitys chosen by Bungie. Edit. If you look at the way certain mods slot to certain pieces of armour only then you will notice it basically stops you stacking grenades for boss dps etc etc. A pretty hilarious stealth nerf.
-
Thank you for taking the time to explain in detail. It’s a bad system, unfortunately I don’t think Bungie can revise it for shadowkeep. Again they always seem to just fall short of delivering a good game.
-
Realistically it's just rng for base stats and elements. As soon as you get a mod you have it forever, that was the whole point of the new mod system. You get one and then you can put it on any armor piece that it can be applied to.
-
And here comes the apologist. In normal games, I pick what goes on my armor. RnG is for bad games that don't have depth. Period.
-
Looking at ur profile you don’t really play anymore but you sure like to chirp a lot on the forums. Why not visit a forum for some thing you actually play?
-
You check his profile, probably to pick at his game-time, playstyle, K/D, or something else. See he doesnt play anymore. Pick at him for that instead.
-
That sure sounds like an opinion. One that differs from mine.
-
You're an apologist for a game that targets your limbic system. You're addicted. That isn't an opinion. I base opinions on facts and nothing but. Your "opinion" is worth that of a meth head. 0

Cool. Insult somebody for no good reason. That'll convince them. Why am I not allowed to like the things I like? I'm not telling you to enjoy it. I'm just arguing for the knowledge I think is right. Along with that, you've never met me. I don't just play destiny, in fact I take long breaks from it because eventually, just like with everything else, I get tired of it. If I was addicted, I would not be able to function without it, yes? Also, your argument is an ad hominem attack on my character, otherwise known as a logical fallacy.

Yes but due to affinity you will be hunting element mods for a very long time. Think catalyst rarity. It is triple rng. Example. You get a good arm roll but it's void and the mod you want to use has a solar affinity. You now need to rng the same arm roll but in solar or rng a void version of the mod. Plus do you risk your ultra rare materials to masterwork that arm or save them until you get that solar version. What about arc affinity mods? The odds of all of these variables aligning is miniscule. I predict that most players will not bother. Rendering armour 2.0 a bust. People will simply slot what fits and make do. This is exactly what most people did in D1. Heck most players didn't even know there was an armour tier system.

Certain weapons = certain elements.

After long enough you'll get all of them, realistically it's going to be a knockout system, and even considering what you are saying, only dedicated players are going to be interested in build depth anyways. That's how it's always been. That's how it still is. You can play totally ignoring it if you want, and in that case it doesn't affect you negatively or positively, but if you are the kind of player that does care about build depth then this system will definitely be useful.
-
You actually can't play and ignore them. Your armour comes vanilla. It will have zero perks unless you slot them. This is why people will simply make do and slot the first thing that fits. Only dedicated players will even bother to masterwork anything. Even then there will be a lot of peed off players who spend time and resources to masterwork then find something better and are staring down the barrel of another lengthy grind. The cracks are showing and, if each armour set is locked to a certain element as the description of the hunter solstice set implies, then player choice is actually an illusion as there will be an optimal set.
-
Only the solstice gear is locked. We know this.
-
If you don't have enough runes by now, that's sad. I have over 150 of each rune at this point
-
How is it sad?
-
How do you NOT have over a hundred of each rune at this point. Everything you do gives you 2 runes
-
A “grind” doesn’t bother me so much. But, your other point wrt possibly building an environment to suit a specific streamer, or group of, worries me. A LOT.
-
Luckily that's not what they're doing, everyone just says they are because they don't like certain changes.
-
Agreed and understood wrt ppl disliking change. I don’t feel it’s conspiracy thinking on a grand scale to question why the well is being nerfed, and why a popular streamer’s rant was being held in such high regard, at the same time. I don’t see anything abnormal with associating the streamer with the director and the nerf/changes. Heck, D2’s director made the connection himself, in part 1.
-
Yeah, though luke smith already did point a little to it, I think he REALLY should have clarified that datto's video was not the deciding factor in nerfing well. A lot less people would be upset about it.
-
Streamer’s can have, regardless of it being right or wrong, an..., ahem, less than loveable perception around here. Same can be said for Mr Smith. Right or wrong, lol. imho, Luke did Datto few favors by calling his name. And by the same token Datto did Luke no favors in his video, if nothing else the horrible timing of it all. For the two of them together, it was a lose lose situation. I read part 2 roughly an hour ago. Much better read, good post this time.

Once it's unlocked, it's unlocked forever. I hardly think this is going to be that bad.
