Yes but that is a slug shotgun, its archetype forces you to get headshots to kill someone at range. Body shots wont cut it. Erentil with a counterbalance mod doesnt require aiming to the head. It's a body shot kill at 30 metres max. And if that's the case, then why is nearly noone using the chaperone?

No it's not the only thing that is keeping up with them. What keeps up is the player and their efficiency with the weapons they use. I use a blast furnace and beloved and I always go positive in crucible, because I'm good. Also I'm not stupid enough to go close quarters like everyone else does. Out of every fusion rifle in the game, only one is appearing on top. It is used a lot more than other fusion rifles, making it overpowered in its class. Another fusion rifle wont be able to counter it at range and considering that you can get a charge time masterwork on erentil it's a no brainer to use it to counter other fusions. (Much like OEM. Its overused and this will receive a nerf) The only other thing that will beat it at range is jotunn and we all know how powerful that thing is.

I get killed by telesto, epicurean, loaded question, and main ingredient just fine. Erentil is just more consistent. If anything they should structure more fusions to be this consistent.

I’m here to legitimately discuss this weapons place in the Crucible sandbox. It works at ranges greater than 40 meters on some rolls. That’s outside most hand cannon ranges and all SMG and Sidearm ranges. It should have its places for sure, but this one outperforms all others in any class of Fusion. Small maps ARE part of the problem though. Super good point.

I think 40+m is a bit of a stretch. On console at least. I have Erentil with Long Zoom, Projection Fuse, Firmly Planted and Tap the Trigger. Tested in a private match it was consistent up to 35m. And that was against a still standing target that didn't shoot back. Btw, Long scope fusions don't take flinch very well either. I also did test the dmg falloff of this roll Erentil in Tribute Hall. it started at 23m so after that I need to hit more bolts. I think those snipe voops need all bolts to hit and maybe some damage perk as well, not sure. Often if I get a really long voop the opponent was already damaged. It's a strong weapon and with the right roll Erentil is most consistent for sure. But I have 1500+ crucible kills on my Proelium as well so you can't stop the voop..

It won’t consistently kill you at that range, but I’ve seen it first hand hit at 40. You do need all bolts though which is unlikely to happen reliably. But in a perfect scenario, it’s possible (yes I get that’s nitpicking) It’s still a longer range than other high impact frame Fusions. When we tested the high impacts, Erentil was consistently OHK ~5m farther than the others. That and the fact it can be mained with scavengers and has such range is my largest gripe. I just think it’s a bit too far above the average for that weapon type. And exactly, those rapid fire Fusions are terrific at short range. Just as High impacts should have more range. I just wish it’s consistency was more in line with other Fusions. Sorry also. There’s been so many replies over the past day it’s hard to reply to all of them with a persistently perfect response.

Objectively speaking, I think all typical Special Weapons should be looked at. I've felt as if Snipers do way too much bodyshot damage to justify ever since D1. They're called the "Precision Weapon Type", so why is everyone rewarding for being... non-precise? I know it'll probably never change though. Shotguns, I feel need a function tweak. The reason why people feel as if Shotguns "map" is this; Looking at a Shotgun's One-Hit Kill Ranges aren't that surprising. They seem justified. Eight meters, then perks to extend those Ranges. -- But the problem here is that Shotguns are able to reach beyond that point with ridiculous damage. From how I view it, all Shotguns should behave like The Legend of Acrius; Upon hitting max Range, the pellets completely disappear. Fusions I feel do have a little too much going for them. They don't seem to take flinch very much. You can pre-charge corners, so the "risk" of Charging a Bolt is out the window. The only thing that draws them back is the Sound Queue, but I feel that Sound Queue should be a little bit more apparent so Guardians can feel as if they justifiably died to them.
