RAID ETIQUETTE

Hey everyone! The raid scene has been packed recently, what with Crown of Sorrows releasing and lots of players wanting to try it out. I wanted to leave this list of rules here that would be helpful to guardians who are new to Crown of Sorrows, or to raids in general. I've come up with a lot of this stuff since Last Wish came out, and I think we can agree on most of it. Definitely leave other rules in the comments! As always, please be respectful. Here's the list: 1.) Patience is a Virtue- As with any new raid, it takes time to work out the kinks and get the team in a flow. You aren't doing the team any good if you quit after one failed attempt. 2.) Don't Be Toxic- Nothing good comes out of being a jerk. If someone is messing up, help them figure it out, or tell them you're on a time limit and don't have time to sherpa them. If they're being rude or disrespectful, tell them what they did without being arrogant, and simply kick them. 3.) Be Honest About Your Experience- If you don't know what you're doing in an encounter, tell the team! We all had to learn the mechanics at some point. If you're honest up front, there is a good chance they'll go over it with you because it is easier than finding a new teammate. If you lie, 99.99% of the time you will get kicked, because it is disrespectful and wastes time. On a similar note... 4.) If Using an LFG, Do Not Post "KWTD" Unless You KWTD!- When posting a fireteam on an LFG that asks for players who "KWTD (Know What To Do)", the players who join assume that everyone on the team knows what to do. This includes the person who made the post! Too often I've joined a KWTD fireteam, where the leaders themselves have no idea what's going on. People try to use this as a way to get free carries/completions, and it is disrespectful to the fireteam members, as well as a disservice to yourself. On a similar note... 5.) Don't Post For Requirements You Fail to Meet- If you have completed Last Wish 7 times, then don't ask for people with 10+ clears. It doesn't matter how good you say you are, or that you've been raiding since Vault of Glass so you "have experience and know what you're doing". You should meet any requirements you ask for. In a similar vein, if you post a Light Level requirement, you should be at that light level! Just this week I was raiding with a guy who posted 735+ on CoS, but ran it as a 723. 6.) Bring Raid Banners- These are very cheap, and there is no reason not to have them. Its not the responsibility of one person to supply them for a whole raid...if you can't afford raid banners, then you probably need more gear before you're ready to raid. 7.) Have Fun With It- Nearly every team I've been on that's had fun has been successful. This is a video game, not life, so we better enjoy it. Also, teams tend to work well together when they're having fun. 8.) Follow Through On Your Promises- If you post on an LFG that's willing to take new/inexperienced players, then do your duty as a sherpa! Its not right to accept new players and then effectively ignore them, or worse kick them from the team. 9.) Respect the Speed-Run- If you don't make a post explicitly asking for a Speed-Run, then don't expect people to rush. If you have a time limit, then request that players get it done quickly. Likewise, don't join a team aiming for a Speed-Run if you aren't going to take it seriously! 10.) If You're Leading A Team, Do Your Homework- It is always a good idea to talk to your teammates a bit before launching a raid, and it never hurt to look them up on Raid Report. This isn't just to protect you, but also the others who joined your team. It'll help you weed out anybody lying about experience, and can lead to a smoother run overall. The leader is the one with the power to control the team, so its up to them to do their best to figure out if there are any bad eggs in the party. Its not your fault if someone crappy joins your team--you can't control it. It never hurts to do some research first though, as it'll make things easier on you and the team. This is more of a helpful tip to leaders than a rule. 11.) Go Easy On The Microphone- If you're raiding with anyone (especially an LFG group), be respectful on the mic. This not only includes basic rules of language, but things such as loud noises (eating, shouting at something outside of the game, vaping, kids etc.) aren't fun to listen to. All it takes is a simple flip of a switch to mute yourself. Also, most people don't like hearing your loud music in the background! Its a good idea to either learn to route it through your headset, or not play it during the raid. This reminds me... 12.) SPEAK UP- Raids are all about communication! Some encounters only rely on it in a minor sense, but the majority require strong communication to be cleared. Make sure to talk, and speak loudly enough to hear. I personally have been in too many parties where we don't even know someone is there until the first encounter has started. 13.) When Being Taught A Raid, Listen and Put in Effort- Sherpas don't exist to just carry people who've never done the raid before. Their goal is to teach you so that you can complete the raid on your own moving forward. Don't hide your struggles--own up to them, and do your best to fix them. Have humility, and understand that the sherpa has experience and you should listen to him/her, instead of blowing him off because of an ego. Key point: When you're in a "Learning Group", be sure to learn the mechanics instead of just skating by on your teammates. It makes things better for everyone. I hope you all agree with this! Eyes up Guardians! ***EDIT*** Thanks for the responses everyone! I'm glad to see so many people chipping in and telling their stories. Everyone is being respectful, and we've avoided trolls for the most part which is awesome. KWTD- "Know What To Do"...means that players in the team have experience clearing the raid encounters and know what they're doing. This does NOT mean you have watched a video tutorial and have an idea of what to do, but have never done it. Additional Etiquette Rules will be pulled from the comments and added to the list. Credits for these rules are as follows: #8- robinsonc784070 #9- Rez #10- Skred679 #11- LOTS of players mentioned microphone/chat party etiquette #12- I thought of this while writing #11 #13- ShadowWing48

  • 7. Bag every enemy you kill without fail If you can't get the bag off before you die, find them and kill them, then repay them double what you owe them. Thus is the command I give unto you. Amen.
Wait, this post seems somewhat familiar...
• All jokes aside, I have seen this list grow since d1. Community has changed and lfg isn't what it used to be. I had enough bad experiences to give up on raid. A lot of (good) players have left/abandoned this game so not sure what I think of people that are left. First attempt of lw, my post that I am not experienced and had first ever encounter. 5 people joined saying they are ok. I learned first encounter and after few wipes got it. Second encounter was same. Ogre was a pain but by that time I felt things getting toxic and told them that look I can leave and you guys carry on. BTW, I wasn't the only newbie there was 1 more and the so called experienced were also messing up. I did my role and carried on as I was told to. We reached vault and 3 guys were toxic by then. Another guy was coll and kept everyone in check asking them to be patient as everyone has different experience level. Anyway, I was given plates duty in vault and I missed one knight as I was out of heavy and special ammo (back then heavy drops were low, I still find it bugged). They toxicity went up the roof and everyone left except the cool headed guy. He said vault is the worst part of raid so wasn't much of my fault for first time. I never tried after that and most of my lfg posts went unanswered. I am in a clan which raids daily but the time zone doesn't work for me so im at mercy of lfg. Even if you do everything right, there isn't enough to go around. I have done every raid in d1 with lfg so i can say it never used to be like this. Your post is on the point but lack of players has it's own impact

        • And this is exactly the reason I don't do the raids. For some odd reason Bungie thinks puzzles are fun, news flash, they're not, especially in a shooter. I think Ubisoft must have been talking to Bungie, but that's another story. Too many elitist people yelling and screaming is not my idea of a fun experience. To me, the Menagerie style of play would be perfect for a raid but I guess it wouldn't puzzely enough for the hardcore.

Unless you’re going for some very specific run or challenge, RR honestly opens up for more toxicity in the community than it helps dispel

              • My favorite raid guys are the "I'm the best shit" kind of guys. You know them... The guy who joins in last minute and always talks highly of himself and his "accomplishments" "Ya, I beat the raid 8 times a week." "I only fight Riven legit." "I always have the highest DPS." "My team can 1 phase this guy in our sleep." "I can basically do this entire encounter by myself." "We're gonna beat this no problem." "This raid is honestly the easiest one ever." They usually are also the first person to mess up and the first time someone says something about it, they completely ghost out of the team and the party almost instantly.

                • In regards to #11, I'm Australian and I have not had 1 raid group question my language. I laugh my head off when they do the typical insults like "riding your kangaroo to work" or "He's upside down". If you are in a raid group which actually knows the raid such as CoS there's barely any reason to keep com's quite. It's all just shitty insults and banter. I'd say it isn't bad to break out of your shell and have a some giggles and shits but if you know what you're like without your shell and it's bad probably just stay in there. Overall I'm just trying to say we don't have to have strictly business class language with pleases and thankyous. Call someone a good -blam!- if they did something good or a shit -blam!- if they did something bad. It's a videogame don't get your knickers in a twist every 10 seconds if someone is just having a laugh.

                    • Add microphone etiquette. 1. People who keep the mic too close to their mouths, nobody want hear your labored breathing. 2. Vaping as if your Darth Vader. 3. Taking a piss with your mic on and not washing your hands. 4. Your potato chip eating ass with the mic on, stop it. 5. Having your mom/grandma/wife cuss your ass out for playing video games before doing your chores is cool because we are laughing our ass off.

Well said, though i'd like too add my 2 cents for what little its worth: WIPES ARE A PART OF RAIDING, it is a inevitable and unavoidable part of the activity and honestly the experience. DO NOT EVER join a raid expecting a 100% flawless run 1st try every time, wipes happen its not the end of the world. Pitching a fit, getting angry and raging or even leaving after 1 wipe just wastes everyone's time and can often flat out kill a group's momentum or moral way more than the wipe itself. The only exception to this rule is if you join a group EXPLICITLY stating they are going for a flawless run. KEEP THE CHAT CLEAR DURING ENCOUNTERS. Its ok to talk, ask questions and crack a joke every once in a while during a raid encounter, however keep it to a minimum during the fight / encounter itself. Call outs need to happen on a moments notice and if your chatting away no one will hear it. Only time this doesn't really apply is on door opening segments or encounters like the sparrow race in SoTP. The less needless chatter when mechanic call outs need to happen the easier it is to communicate and coordinate the required information. Other wise again very well said. Too many people forget these general rules or just don't care, ruins raids group far more than anything else.

I think researching the raid a bit beforehand is always welcome before jumping in. It's really something everyone should do to make it a smoother experience after the first 24 hours. This helps eliminate those people that just refuse to admit they have no clue what they're doing.

                          • you see its kind of weird how these things work, because in some raid cultures and according to some people it is apparently acceptable to be playing videos games in the middle of a god damn daycare, while listening to the latest *enter newest fap rap sensation here* while singing and swearing along whilst the music nearly, neeeeearly cuts out the sound of the f*cking jackhammer across the street, but not nearly enough to filter out your drunk ass ramblings as you try and explain a f*cking encounter that you saw on youtube.

                            • A mic and preferably speaking and understanding the same language. The amount of Raids through LFG I’ve been in where Silent Bob sends a DM through PSN to tell you he can hear you but his mic is broken. Communication is key in a raid. No mic, then I just kick. Sorry to all the noobs but that is 1st rule of raiding.

                            • Bring your weapon loadouts that you know will have the potential to get you through the raid. This doesn't need to be the weapons that are mostly recommended by the masses. Those can be weapons that you are confident that can do efficient DPS to various enemies and even bosses. Got a new weapon you want to try out? Give it a spin on a few encounters.
