I think researching the raid a bit beforehand is always welcome before jumping in. It's really something everyone should do to make it a smoother experience after the first 24 hours. This helps eliminate those people that just refuse to admit they have no clue what they're doing.

  • Honestly, I think this is the actual problem with raids. VoG and CE were pretty easy to explain to new people while you were doing the raid, yet still had plenty of ways to be challenging. Then in Taken King, the raid became much more... complex, for lack of a better word. The mechanics became less fun to die too, and were more tedious to execute or easier to fail at. And history shows that the raids have followed that path of design. Why is this a problem? Raids are supposed to be challenging, but challenging does not have to be tedious. Using Dark Souls as an example, one of the more challenging boss fights is Slave Knight Gael. He is a tough fight, with plenty of combos and moves to put the hurt on the player. Yet the fight isn't tedious to get to after you die, and has few mechanics that add difficulty on top of the difficult boss you're fighting. That's just my opinion, I think with the rise of raids where it is basically needed to watch the whole thing instead of playing it, before playing it, is the reason why raiding has progressively gotten worse for a range of people.

  • I think it depends on what type of person it is. I did CoS with another new person and these other four taught us in no time at all, no video required. Hands on learning is still viable but no one wants to do that. People assume that no one will learn the fight in the first pull and then it leads down hill from there. The raid I did took: 2 attempts on first encounter, 2 on second and third with the last taking 5. All in all, it was a fun, and great learning experience. There are chill people out there, it is just getting harder and harder to find them. Being kind to others will take you far in a world we’re social interaction is key. I am standoffish myself and have a zero tolerance attitude for some kid half my age talking down to me but I try to remember, not everyone was raised correctly regarding speaking to others lol

  • Nope, i have 5 clears and when i make groups for CoS , i don't mind taking in new players, they can watch a video after they have tried, not before. How many have i seen say i seen a video and they still screw up? the best experience is getting your hands dirty. I got my CoS clear in the 1st week , i'm by no means a great player, i just keep trying until i get better at it.

  • Aye, only takes half an hour. If that. Hell theres a video for Crown of Sorrow that clocks in at 2 mins 30. It wont make you an expert but at least you go in with a loose grasp of what needs to happen 👍
