I’m not upset. Read that carefully, then read the next words carefully too. I think that with all the eyes they had on the WORD Izanami in development (including the minds behind their word puzzles and lore teams who look at words all day) one of two things happened: 1) Everyone missed it, and they published it in complete ignorance and it took someone of Facebook to notice and mock them for it before they were aware. 2) They didn’t miss it. The person who saw it told no one maybe. Maybe they discussed it and decided it’s not a big deal for them personally. Maybe they saw it too late to change all the code. For whatever reason they chose not to replace it with any of countless Japanese words and phrases that pay appropriate homage without being controversial words in English when read backwards. Inari Okami is the most obvious example. Either option is a failure for Bungie and they earned the controversy and mockery they have to endure online in the age of outrage. I like Bungie. I don’t think they chose it maliciously. They are good people in general. They did screw up a little and pretending that they didn’t is ridiculous.
