D&D Diary

I thought it would be fun to write a diary from my new Dungeons and Dragons characters perspective. I'll be writing these session by session so I can't promise anything consistent. Day 14, I think... My name is Bitterblossom, BeeBee to my friends. I'm a Pixie, but I didn't grow up in the Feywild or some hidden forest village. I grew up on the streets of Sarenport. My Clique slid through crowds nicking shiny things and cutting coin purses. The rest of them were satisfied with the fun of it, the food, and the trophies of our little alleyway hovel, but I was a bit more ambitious, so I asked my fence to put my name out to higher clientele. I started off doing simple burglaries, someone had something that someone else wanted, then I moved up to cracking safes in nobles homes. Even robbed a museum once! Eventually I learned people pay for information as well as shiny things, so I became a spy aswell as a thief. And that's how I ended up in this cage... I took a job for some noble. Slip in, crack a safe, grab some papers, and return them to the client. I got in through an open bedroom window, easy. The mark was sleeping quietly in his bed so I flew towards the desk and found the safe in the floor, just as I was told. Checked for traps, magical or otherwise, played with the mechanism with my hands, and then three guards stormed into the room staring directly at me. I flew towards the window and caught a glimpse of the noble and noted his throat was slit. This was a set up. I got out, but one of the guards managed to cut one of my wings. I fell hard, I tried to limp to a hiding spot, but I'm barely taller than a mug of ale and it seemed the whole damned city was after me. They found me and shoved me into a sack. They put me in a bird cage and set me before a judge. Apparently my client was also found dead at the drop off. Both him and the mark were members of the city council, so this wasn't about me, I was just the patsy. They gave me the standard choice of the realm for my crimes: Death, or Life in the Mines. I chose life. So they threw me in a cart with these six other criminals: a Dwarven conman, a Goliath murderer, a Tiefling heretic, a Treant terrorist, Human bandit, and a Halfling that was apparently arrested for talking too much. The prison mines of Sarenport are dug deep into the mountains bordering the Ferneli Empire and the Nerulian Marshes. It was originally a small Dwarven outpost before the Human Empire conquered the area. Now the Empire throws its worst criminals into its depths to excavate collapsed tunnels, plunder riches, and mine the untapped veins. The group I arrived with has been kept together. When we're not in our shared cell, we are escorted down to a recently discovered collapse to excavate. The others do all the heavy work, they usually keep me in my bird cage and use my glow as a lantern, but occasionally they clip one of my wings again, tie some string around me, and shove me into a hole to investigate the other side. Last night...day? We don't see the sun down here... Anyway, last shift, I crawled through a hole and found a massive chamber on the other side littered with Dwarven skeletons and strange sounds coming from the darkness. I reported back to our supervisor and they called their superiors down to discuss how to proceed. From the sound of it, they're going to send a large group of prisoners in to deal with whatever is lurking in the darkness... But for now, they've sent us back to our cell to rest up and get a good final meal before they send us all to die. They even gave me bread and meat instead of beetles! So I guess that's why I'm writing this. I'm either going to die next shift with the rest of my fellow criminals or I'm getting out of here. I guess I wanted some record of my existence, my side of the story. I'm a lot of things, but I'm no murderer. At least not yet. If I get out of here, I'm going to find those responsible for putting me down here and make them pay. Much love! BeeBee And that's where we left off last night (at 2 in the morning). It was fun! We didn't do any combat, mostly just built/introduced our characters and roleplayed some mining. Hopefully next session will be next weekend. If you enjoyed this, great! If you didn't, idk, downvote and mock me.
