Bungie needs to find a way to get more of the community engaged in the Raid. Other MMOs have employed concepts that enact this.
There could be a lite version of this that's released a few weeks after the normal raid that familiarizes people with the mechanics. One that offers no significant rewards. Possibilities are to make a raid playlist that cuts the encounters into strikes, gives power engrams - whatever.
My friend and I are what many of the casuals who want to raid have done - we spent our time getting to 600, got our optimal loadouts - whisper -- all of that. watched the youtube videos. We're half tempted to post our education credentials on forums to get a bite "Two adults with Masters and Bachelors degrees from accredited universities - quick learners and able to multi-task. Will add value to your raid group for long-term sustainability." At the same time, we aren't that desperate and feel like we shouldn't have to "shop around" find a way into doing content that we paid for.
When I watch the youtube videos, I can't help but feel that I'll "get it" once i'm in it. And right now there's a clear gulf between raid experience and capacity to learn where capacity isn't valued because there's still too much risk in a zero experience person.
