Shocking concept- but not everyone reacts to everything the same way.
Not saying he’s legitimately depressed (I’m not a psychologist) or that he’s seeking help the right way- but the benefit of the doubt doesn’t cost you anything here... but it could potentially mean everything to someone else.
Not saying you should watch his video or donate- but you could at least urge that they seek professional help instead of questioning motives.

It's a sympathy ploy plain and simple.

You’re right. Professional help is the right way of handling this. Again, not everyone does things the right way.
