Poor Byf is going through depression, and thinks he’s a failure. :(

TO THOSE WHO ARE JUST ASSHOLES: Kindly -blam!- off Byf had posted this video a few days ago, and dear god it shocked me. I heavily recommend you watch the video and give Byf some comfort. The man thinks he’s a failure, when it could be the furthest thing from the truth. I don’t know why I’m posting this, but I sure as hell know that I don’t want my man Byf to go on :(

What he speaks is true, And perhaps maybe this can teach us all to have a little more compassion in these forums. A little more support for each other. We’re supposed to be guardians right? Lord Byf: We Salute You, We Thank You, and We Love You! From: All the TRUE guardians of this reality, of this “Destiny”. I think it be really cool if we all started a to Salute each other more on the field in honor of the video and what it really means to be a genuine guardian. And for god sakes newbies, learn how to activate heroic public events already. Lol. Lead by example. Thank you all and great job posting OP.

      • It’s sad that the online community has been reduced to this. People accusing people of making up stuff for views/money. Depression and suicide is very real and very serious. Behind every electronic screen, is a human. I think people have forgotten that. We are all human beings. Just because you’re anonymous, and that you’re one stranger among millions, doesn’t mean that your words won’t hurt. Byf is human just like us. And he needs support. Depression is a horrible feeling, suicidal thoughts and actions are traumatic. Many of you reading know this because you have experienced this. We are a community. We are supposed to support each other, not hurt each other. And Byf needs our support now. Say a prayer for Byf, or if you’re not religious, do whatever you gotta do. We’re all human, we’re alive.

        • Look, I don't know this guy. Never seen one of his videos. But I watched this one. What I heard was this dude makes videos guessing things about Destiny's story and what it might lead to in the future. He got things wrong, people have called him out on it and he feels bad. He also apparently dealt with depression in the past and sought treatment for it. Is this a marketing scheme for money or more subs? There's no way for any of us to know. Theres been a lot of real life drama over the past week over "a game" including the partial implosion of Team Redeem. At the end of the day, this IS just a game. Take care of your real life issues and if you don't want to be judged, keep them private. Its. Just. A. Game.

          • This community really disgusts me sometimes, reading through these comments, I honestly can't believe how selfish and dismissive some people are. Depression comes in many shapes and forms. Living paycheck to paycheck isn't depression, being on hard times isn't depression, that's life, and depression can come for anyone regardless of your financial or social standing. Depression is not a contest, it's not comparing to see who's worse off. Depression is hard enough for some people to talk about or even acknowledge, it's no wonder people don't want to talk about it if this is the type of response they can expect. People should be allowed to be open without feeling like they'll be prosecuted for not having a shitty enough life, as if they're not allowed to be depressed. That's so f***ed up. Are any of you or me allowed to be depressed? I'm sure most people in 3rd world countries would have a few things to say. But that's not the point is it? No, because depression isn't a f***ing competition, and we help those we can. You people don't know anything about Byf's life outside of the things he tells you. It doesn't matter that he's a youtuber, it doesn't matter that he plays destiny "for a living", doesn't matter how much money he makes, his social status, popularity, whatever, NONE of that is important. Depression is personal, it's a sickness, and it absolutely sucks for everyone that experiences it. Life is hard enough as it is, you might think some people are having a smooth ride, but you have no f***ing idea what that person is dealing with, and frankly it doesn't matter. I know if I had to make content and keep this entitled community of assholes (including myself) happy every day, I'd probably be depressed too, because more often than not, the overwhelming response is negative, even if you have great fans (and kudos to the great fans). Someone reveals that they're suffering from depression and the immediate response of some people is "lol", or "they're just pretending for views" or something, as if telling people you're depressed will skyrocket you to stardom, get real people. I can't imagine how disheartening that must feel to see responses like that. If any of you have ever been truly depressed, than you know it's incredibly hard to even think about opening up to people about it, and the majority of negative responses here is exactly why. No one should have to suffer alone, being supportive and reassuring doesn't take much energy, being a half decent person really doesn't take much effort at all. But instead all I see is people too busy looking inwards, complaining about the hand they were dealt or how much better someone else has it than they do. People shouldn't be dismissive about depression, whether you think a person is serious or not, you take it seriously because it can literally mean life or death for someone. I wish more people would come out about depression, because it's too often that you're too late, someone you knew and cared about is gone and you had no idea something was wrong. You may be anonymous on the internet, but words have weight and affect real people on the other end. Just because you don't see the consequences doesn't mean there isn't any. Sorry for the length of this...

Depression and suicide are serious issues that do not have one certain path for successful treatment. Typically seeking support and validation from those around you is a healthy response. They wouldn't need to if they already had that sense of autonomy to continue on their own, so whatever helps them, helps them, and should be encouraged. But publicizing it by putting it on the Internet for any passerby to stick their nose in? People can be suspicious of intent there, and rightly so. And for -blam!-'s sake, shut up about toxic this and toxic that. I'd never even heard the term used in that way before gamers adopted it for some stupid reason. People can be mean in chat, we know you silly -blam!-s. If your sense of self-worth is so severely shaken by complete strangers who you'll likely never meet in real life doing nothing but slinging insults, you actually could do with a reevaluation of your life. Or at least answering the question of why that means so much to you.

                • Here's an idea.. Get him to go out a little more and socialise, find a gf, do some sports etc.. Depression is common (too common) now as kids have too much time sat infront of the screen for 15hours a day

                  • So Byf posted his yearly "I'm depressed" video where he laments that he didn't perfectly predict the Lore, Direction, how he hasn't finished some Lore Videos, & how his content has suffered because he isn't as meticulous as he first was. Ugh. I myself have Severe Depression, am a Survivor of Suicide, & have both Social Anxiety & Anxiety Attacks due to the previous issues. But I have learned to combat it on a personal level & outside of the Internet medium. Posting videos, threads, & etc stirs up negative attention & feedback which make all those issues even worse. If Byf wanted to feel better then he needs to turn to his friends in real life not his internet audience. Additionally, he needs to start to take criticism, he needs to acknowledge the ugly truths that he likes to dismiss & avoid. He lost both my sympathy & respect when he slighted the Artist for his Book of Sorrows series, & when he stole credit for multiple Collaborations with other Lore Content creators back in D1. So if he feels bad or is having a rough time then its Karma plain & simple. While I dislike knowing someone else feels the pain of depression that I feel. Myself & other depressed people actually DO something it. We attend Support Group Meetings, we learn techniques (Thought Catching & etc), we find activities that stimulate us & promote positive emotions & thoughts, we also check ourselves into Mental Rehab if we need it. Byf often just wallows in his depression & takes no action. So it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. I know the OP meant well by posting this but the negative comments will get more traction than the positive because of internet anonymity & the power it imbues. So you did Byf no favors by posting this. To be blunt. Byf needs to get off his ass in reality & take action. The hardest part of depression is that it makes you not want to do anything, but because you are doing nothing you feel depressed. No one on the internet will save him. He needs to save himself.

Smells like bullshit...way to cheapen the definition, and severity of depression though. I'm sure myself and others who suffer, are gonna have a solid laugh about it.

                      • Honestly I hate posts like this... "I have X mental issue, feel bad for me as I publicize it." Then people bash on those who don't bite on the line, or say how stupid it is. There are thousands of cases per hour, what makes one so special? You don't see a post for every case. Honestly 70% of these "I have depression" posts are along the same lines as people saying they are going to off themselves because a game isn't going their way. It's purely for attention, which is why it is better off just keeping it local to friends. I, for one, would just stop watching someone if they started the pitty party.

I'd be depressed too if I was a low-quality YT'er. Maybe he should quit destiny and find something better. I guarantee he'd feel better.

                              • Let me just say that I saw byf’s video and believe from the way he talks about it and his tone of voice that he speaks from the heart here. I really hope he gets help to deal with his demons. But not even scrolling down through the comments, both on the original video and this post, I am disgusted by some people’s inability to show even a glimpse of sympathy. I keep seeing comments about how byf is “just faking a mental illness for views” and “he’s just another bullshitter trying to get people to feel sorry for him.” Listen to how he goddamn speaks, he clearly has some sort of mental issue, I’m not just talking this one in particular, but in all his videos he sounds sad and insecure about himself. The fact is, this guy who you might not know personally just opened up to you about his baggage, and you respond by calling it bullshit and lies. I try my best to get people to be better people here on the forums, and clearly, I’ve only been half-assing my efforts. I hope you can all take this and not call bullshit the next time a big community figure opens up their can of worms to their fans.
