Can someone explain to me how Destiny 2 isn't now a subscription MMO? I mean the only difference here is we'll be paying a yearly fee for updates instead of a monthly fee. In a subscription MMO those payments are required, in Destiny 2 they just make your entire game obsolete unless you pay. In a subscription MMO we get everything Destiny 2 is offering, updates, new modes, new items, raids, instances etc. But we also get better servers, better aftersales, faster updates, no lootboxes and we can pick and choose which expansions we want to buy. Most importantly other MMO's have been subscription based from the start, Destiny 2 is pulling some bait and switch BS where they lure us in at one price only to hike it later. I can't say this is a deal breaker for me, the deal was already broken months ago. But Bungie must be high off their ass right now if they think people are going to pay even more to watch them play catchup with Destiny 1.

  • They’ve been playing catch up since the beginning

  • It's no different then a season pass, like the first one. A one time paymemt for content through a given timeline. One.you pay monthly for, without a guaranteed timeline of when new content drops.. This one, same thing except you know there will be 3 drops, and when. Explained.

So what you're saying is it's just a shittier version of the subscription model, packaged as a season pass in a game that already has a season pass. If bungie wants to sell us additional content, sell us one bundle of additional content or sell it all separately, don't pull this nickel and dime BS where you have season passes on top of season passes so customers are restricted in choosing what content they want. Also in what universe should three minor content updates cost the same amount as 2 expansions in a game where eververse was supposed to pay for the minor updates.

You know a season only lasts but so long right? You didn't get a 3 year season pass. The fact it already had one (which it didn't, it had 2 pre-order dlc's) doesn't mean it lasts forever. And yes about the shittier form I suppose

  • I didn't say anything about the duration. I said that once you start charging for minor updates that becomes identical to a subscription model, only subscription models offer a whole host of other benefits too. It doesn't matter if they give a schedule for those updates or not. What does matter though is that they told us eververse was there to cover these costs, will they be removing eververse once we're paying for this content? I doubt it.

Eververse (I can't believe I'm saying this cause I know better but in this context) funds the free seasonal update that are available to those who don't pay beyong the base game. Those still happen. Your paid ones will have a layer on top of that, that you did pay for. ..and just to be clear, I'm not defending eververse. But what's funding all those people getting the next dawning who don't buy expansions And it absolutely sucks you have to get a shitty dlc (coo) just to play the new stuff

  • So how many different categories are they going to split content into so they can charge us separately for it? Expansions give us new story content and we pay for it. Seasonal Events give us events and we pay through eververse. Minor updates give us new activities and we pay for it. What's next? Charging for bugfixes, balancing, each individual new gun?

  • Who knows. But at that point it's safe to assume the middle finger and a hard "pass" lol. At this point it's the same thing we have already done.
