Saying Activision isn't the bad guy in this situation is not exactly correct either. I can't imagine a company with credentials such as theirs to not be absolutely innocent of Bungie's shenanigans, whether they might be mere off the book suggestions or actual contract bylaws that Bungie must uphold in order for Activision to publish and support Destiny.
Not that it matters, because with all the -blam!-ing money Activision earns from their other franchises, they shouldn't need a goddam lootbox monetization system to "support" Destiny. It's just -blam!-ing greed from both parties.

Not saying Activision is a good guy I'm saying that bungie wasn't forced into focusing eververse they CHOSE to go that route and Activision (likely taken back) said ok.
-
I'm willing to bet activision told them they needed to increase the focus on micro transactions. I'm guessing bungie just decided developing was too hard and to put all their eggs in that basket.
-
That's not the story though. Bungie took this to them

At this point I'm sure activision wanted micro-transactions at the same time they understand that people need to enjoy the game to make spending more money on it appealing so I can't shoulder this on them at this point.
