Incoming Developer Commentary about Destiny.

Hey, there. Tomorrow, we had planned to conduct the final stream prior to the launch of “Curse of Osiris” to show off some of the weapons and armor the expansion includes. Instead, we are investing all our efforts into delivering some higher priority information about Destiny 2. You’ll hear from studio leadership about their assessment of Destiny all up, they’ll talk about our goals for the game going forward, and you’ll also learn about how we’re reacting to your feedback with some game updates that will arrive in the next few weeks. That will appear on the Bungie Blog on Wednesday. Thank you, DeeJ

  • "Be excellent to each other"... Hey WanDeej. Maybe you haven't noticed but the community, atleast 95% of it. Is united at last... Behind one common banner... Against you. You have finally managed to unite the community. Against your selves. Congratulations. We're not cursing at each other any more, we're all cursing at you, lol. People have been giving you constructive criticism all along. Maybe you should have addressed some of it instead of waiting until your game was going up in flames to deal with it.. You know people are heavily opposed to that stupid timer. You know people have uniformly rejected the current fixed roll system and lack of mod variety. You know people do not approve of the fixed skill sets. You know people do not approve of the balancing. You know that people don't approve of the 4 v 4 even though, personally.. I do, but most people don't. You know people don't like the token system, or the lack of point to shards. You know people don't like how bland and boring everything is. You know people are rejecting every part of the direction you've taken. Why? Because you promote a sense of false equivalency that the 1 person who is happy with this situation is equal to the 20 who aren't. You need to start paying attention to what the majority of your fan base wants, not focus on the 5% that agrees with you. That. Is why your game is dying. My constructive criticism to you, is that you learn a lesson every corporation ever has already learned. What the customer wants is more important than what the business wants them to have, because if the business doesn't give the customer what they want, that customer goes somewhere else. Would you rather lose the business of the 3 to 5% of ultra toxic players who want everything to be about as much fun as having your breasts in a vice? Or do you want the business of people who will stick with you forever as long as they're having fun with their friends, working together to get through challenging content instead of yelling at each other over every tiny mistake? Here's a helpful hint. Your company can't survive off those 5% of sweaters and 5% of casuals. You need something for the 90% of players who are somewhere between.

This what  could work out for destiny 2 . 1 ) raid gear and raid weapons with raid perks on . 2) masterworks on weapons only .  with  god rolls on  armour  . 3) change  the clan engrams so you only get normal gear from not raid or trials  gear out of. 4) Bring back  all planet's from destiny 1 to destiny 2  for PvP and pve . 5) more PvP and pve choices  old mode from destiny 1. Ie. bring a 24 vs 24 PvP match  only primary  .  The way this would work let's take mars as it is  on destiny 1 ok 24 one side 24 the other 30 min battle for clan xp if they did this for clans.  We could use one of destiny 1 old planet's.  Ie moon or what ever the race you what to fight. Earth got fallen. Moon got hive. Venus got vex. Mars got Kabul. Each race could have a different level of difficulty   Pve use destiny 1 old planet for big public event that could last up to 30 mins or more get good rewards from . 6) Take nightfall timer off. 7) dedicated servers for PvP and pve. 8) PvP duel match 1 v 1 for top PvP players primary only like trials matches this keep top players happy  Let me know what you think Tweet from ONYXFEAR (@OnyxFearx_x) ONYXFEAR (@OnyxFearx_x) Tweeted: @Bungie That's great news bungie ,now all you need to add is the D1content in D2 n we golden for example https://t.co/Wgg70iS7rE https://twitter.com/OnyxFearx_x/status/935617310089469954?s=17

Gamers are never satisfied. Everyone complains about mechanics X, Y, and Z. In the next release, those mechanics are removed, so everyone complains that they miss X, Y, and Z. And it's always over the smallest things. Destiny 2 has made a lot of improvements over Destiny 1. Biggest improvement: I can now play on my PC, in 4K, at 60+ FPS. I would've even bought a re-release of Destiny 1 if it offered PC support. What I like: PC support. 'nuff said. Bounties have been reworked. Contrary to what other people are saying, I like challenges better. They have much more variety, and they can be completed from any activity. There are proper rewards for completing them. The maps are so much bigger! This is a huge improvement from Destiny 1. Even without any DLC, I feel like there are actually places to explore. I love exploring on my own, without any particular goal or mission. (Think Fallout.) I'd love to see this expanded even more as time goes on. Ammo drops much more frequently. Big plus. The challenge of getting the ammo you want remains, though, which I like. It's still possible to run out of ammo, and thought still has to be put into varying your weapon usage. Crucible maps generally seem more balanced. Every map has a mix of open and closed spaces, and it's generally difficult to camp or shoot people across the whole map. Each map supports a variety of play styles; in Destiny 1, it felt like certain maps favored specific play styles. Guided games. I haven't had a chance to test this feature yet, but I love the idea, and I'll definitely be making use of it. Voice chat. Yes, this arrived late in Destiny 1, but it's a new-ish feature, so I'm sticking it here anyway. The primary/secondary weapon system works better as a kinetic/energy pair. This is more logical and seems to work quite well. There are a lot of little improvements that come with this change that seem to make gameplay a lot smoother. The change in balance of ammo drops goes along with this. I like the new shader system. I also like that I can buy shaders. With money. Money I work hard to get. I don't want to spend time in-game grinding for silly stuff like shaders. Even minimum wage is enough to get a crapload of shaders for a few hours work. As far as time-cost goes, that's a big improvement. (And time is money.) Too young to work? Quit complaining, you get to game all day. I don't. You get exotics, I get a few shaders. I might not have a high power level, but at least I get to look cool. What I dislike: There's a lot more grinding. Destiny 1 play time was self-limiting; you couldn't no-life the game. Rewards for major activities could only be obtained once per week. While that limit has been maintained, it's now possible to advance in the game by doing other activities--that's different, and it leads to a lot of grinding. I can't speak for other players, but I know that when I play a game that requires a big time investment, I have a tendency to play for a few weeks and then either give up or get behind in my work--in which case, I can no longer play at all. The time balance in Destiny 1 made me feel as though I could be equally as successful as players who no-life the game; in Destiny 2, that's no longer the case. To stay competitive, I have to invest a lot of time. I've already put more time into Destiny 2 than I should've, and I'm still far from reaching endgame levels. This is really the only change that makes me question whether I want to continue playing Destiny. (Of course I want to continue playing Destiny, but if I'm always behind everyone and can't participate in endgame activities, is it really worth it? I have a life outside of gaming--that's how I get the money to buy games.) Voice chat remains opt-in during cooperative activities (strikes, Crucible, etc.). I appreciate that I don't have to listen to people eating and coughing while I'm roaming around the world, but cooperative activities are meant to be just that--cooperative. Communication is a must. If you want to be a loner and avoid communicating, those activities aren't for you. Problem is, too many people don't realize that they can join team chat. Shaders are consumable. This isn't a huge issue, but I'd rather pay more for fewer shaders that are reusable; then I can switch things up whenever I want. Right now, I have a lot of shaders, but I'm afraid to use them. I'd definitely buy more if they weren't consumable. It's really hard to get your power level up after you hit 260. That's not really different from Destiny 1, but I'd like to be able to get it close to the max before I have to do stuff like the raid. Raids take a lot of time and coordination, and I don't really have all that much time. If I had more time, I wouldn't have extra money to spend on stuff like shaders. *shrug* Also, it's a real bummer to do Nightfall only to receive crap engrams. At least stick something in there that's higher than my current level. Current voice chat options are voice-activited and push-to-talk. Push-to-toggle would be handy (push a button to mute/unmute), that way people don't have to listen to me eat because I'm not dexterous enough to hold a button while to talk while shooting. I kind of liked that Destiny 1 required a lot of strategy, particular when it came to hiding places in Nightfall. That was a lot of fun. You were squishy, and you had to stay out of the line of fire. The time limit mechanic adds an interesting twist, but it's not as fun as being squishy and hiding in weird places. Overall, Destiny 2 is a big improvement from Destiny 1. Yeah, there are some changes that I dislike, but you can't please everyone. Really, I'm just happy to finally have Destiny on PC; anything beyond that is just a bonus.

    • PvE and PvP need seperate modifiers. At least then the power fantasy can be achieved in PvE without breaking PvP "balance"

Here are my thoughts. The player investment is really suffering from the removal and simplifying of d1s systems and mechanics. If d2 can get back to were d1 left off we are back to a good place. This game has huge potential it’s so sad not to see it met . What I want to see *subclass recharge is still too slow, increase charge earned from kills. This would make pve more fun and only slightly change pvp. It is a space magic game after all. *Primary, special, heavy. Make side arms primary and grenade launchers special. *nightfall timer . Yes this adds an extra level of challenge but it makes the experience way less fun . Keep the timer as a bonus achievement . I.e if you beat the timer you get double xp for example . Kicking people out for not beating the timer is just needlessly frustrating . It’s not going to encourage new players to try it either in my opinion . *return to random rolls. However vanguard, crucible , trials and raid can all stay fixed. Anything outside of that could be random. Maybe limiting the perk pool might reduce super weapons . *mod system . If random rolls are off the table then make the mod system viable . Add mod slots to weapons and armour, this is how we make things unique or cater to our own play style . *useful vendors, at the moment they are just slot machines effectively . Give them the old style rank up back an inventory of things to sell. Maybe make the items for sale sale only not rank up drops . *shaders, the new system is just really poor, there has to be a better way to manage this surely ? Firstly not even enough space for them all, secondly single use was just poor planning . Group deletion would help if it’s staying like this . *titans having 2 grenades as part of the perk tree is terrible design and totally unbalanced. This should be an exotic perk like armitarium from d1 *new exotics . Some are great , Orpheus rig, some are useless lucky pants . Weapon based exotics are not great overall. The only exception is the Titan war rig that’s where you’ve got it right . *old exotics. I’m fine with returning stuff , however changing the perks on them is just lazy, either make something new OR do something within the lore like siva infection to justify the changes . It’s just lazy Re skins as is now . *the new perk tree system should have launched with 3 paths for each subclass. Example , a death from above path for striker, a hunger path for void walker . This would at least increase the variation . *rewards in general, the game feels too generous In a way . There are so many opportunity’s to earn 300 engrams . It’s great having the new clan system but the amount of rewards seem over the top honestly . *raids need drops not tokens , that’s where the sense of achievement comes from not tokens to get the same weapon over and over . *useful perks on raid gear? At a even the must uninspired level how about plus 10% damage on cabal enemies? *i preferred bounties, just my preference . *gunsmith test weapons? Unique gunsmith rewards for completing them like d1. Again this was something totally basic that was removed . *milestones, so uninspired it’s depressing. Literally getting a 300 engrams for 5 public events is just poor, same for crucible . D1 had so much variation in the weekly bounties AND they rotated each week. Why has this been regressed after being sold to us as ‘rituals’. *bright engrams , I don’t really have a problem with them to be honest , it doesn’t represent pay to play in my opinion . However bungies handling of it was as usual totally off the mark . To find now the xp requirement has doubled is just a big screw you to the players who actually invested time in it . I firmly believe if bungie wasn’t outed by the gaming media it would still be active right now . This is the kind of thing that destroys consumer confidence in a brand . I could go on but I feel like these are all things for consideration, I think most players would agree with the majority of my points. Thanks

        • I understand bungie try to encourage team play! However, putting a timer on the nightfall strikes doesn't do that, it's more of an inhibitor. I have yet to go through a nightfall do to not being able to get help. I don't want to spend nor do I have hours to get a team for a strike. It's as bad as trying to get a team for a raid! Then you have limited time events like clarian call. I was excluded from that event as well as everyone has their own group and that will never change, clan or no clan! Encourage team play but don't knock out the solo players. Put timers on prestige night fall fine but not the regular one. Just be mindful that players often can't get or don't want other people to play with them. Don't try to force friendship because instead you punish the solo players in Destiny!

        • Instead of a masterwork upgrade for the legendary weapons, bungie should just release all the exotics there is in destiny 2. I think the masterwork buff is an excellent route but it will single out the players who cannot afford the time to grind everyday and play everyday to be awarded a masterwork upgrade. I could be wrong and there could be more to it but from my understand if you will have to still grind for the same gun you already have, it will become pointless and give some players the disadvantage in crucible and will stop playing. Therefore, it will decrease the number of players. I think bungie should look for another route. Another problem bungie should consider of changing on destiny two is to remove timer on nightfalls. The fun of playing destiny one was being able to solo nightfalls when you cannot find any players, even if you are in a clan. So many players has stopped playing that clan players don't play anymore. This is a major problem for people who look forward to receiving that powerful gear to help boost up their light levels. Waiting and looking for people was one of the biggest issues in destiny one, do not make it a destiny two problem for nightfall just as much as it was for destiny one raids. Thank you Bungie and I hope you take some of our considerations. Destiny fan

              • What Bungie needs to do for one is not have hidden mechanics in the game that punish the player. For instance the timer that was in place to keep players from opening too many chests and harvesting materials. Also the xp fiasco was pretty bad as well. I know it's a hard concept but try being truthful with what you do to the game and don't screw your fans.

                • As a new player to Destiny, I think the game itself is great and I don't see any major issues with the game mechanics or the currently existing PvE and PvP content. What I do feel is needed however is More content, and that it becomes more rewarding to complete even when you reached your end-game. I'm not a hardcore gamer, I play Destiny 2 quite casually, and yet I have already leveled up two characters to 305 (soon to be three) and acquired basically all the gear/items I need/want. At this point, I'm feeling the game is only worth playing on weekends when there's Trials, or on weeks when there's a special event like Iron Banner. And that's only PvP content, so PvE content is lacking even more, which I can imagine is not so great for the players who don't prefer PvP. Everything just becomes an unnecessary grind once there's nothing there for you to acquire or achieve anymore. Take the raid for example, the raid gear for Hunter is mobility favored. Mobility is not a preferred stat for many, so why would you even run the raid on a level 305 Hunter if you don't want the gear? The first and maybe even second time doing something, it might be for the achievement of completing it and it might also be fun to do it the first couple times, but after that it just becomes a waste of time. Some improvements I see would likely give more life to this game and make it more worth your time: Changes to Armor: Make it possible to change stats on all armor sets, OR, make it possible to "infuse" an armor piece into another armor piece to apply its stats, OR, make it possible to wear any piece of armor "on top" of your primary armor, to use it only cosmetically. This would make it more rewarding and enjoyable to farm and save different armor sets, as you would be able to switch between different armor pieces purely for cosmetics, but keep the stats you want. PvP content: Some people like to play games competitively. There's no competitive scene in this game at all at this moment, although there's potential for it. I doubt it's too much of a hassle to implement a competitive mode with a leader board and ranking system. PvE content: Simply, more raids and other group content, with better and more consistent rewards. Perhaps even allow more choices of difficulty with increased rewards, to make all the hardcore players happy :) Sorry for the wall of text and thanks for reading!

Hi there, I play with friends sometimes but mostly play on my own to chill out. Team shooting is killing the PVP game, which is what brought me back every night in D1. The majority of people in Quick Play, like me, appear to be Lone Wolves, or in teams of 2. Winning a game now is less about skill than being in a team in which no one bails & everyone sticks together for team shots. In the advert for the free trial the first post is play on your own... You should add... But not if you want to win consistently... This isn't how Destiny should be! I played Iron Banner all of last week. Must have put in 12-15 hours. Most of the games I played people were being cautious. This is Iron Banner? It's no fun. PVP is dying with 4v4 & team shots. As for PVE. I just miss the grind. Now I fell like if I've done my weekly milestones there's not much point doing anything else as the rewards aren't there. Please do something before the community implodes... Boom.

                  • Bungie Dudes. Everyone loves the underlying Destiny concept - the characters, the world, the lore, the sense of scale, the epic-ness of it all, the mystery of the traveller and the sense of existential threat looming on the galactic horizon. But, D2 shares very little with that promise. Possibly in your attempt to appeal to anyone and everyone whilst, giving everyone everything for taking part and also fulfilling your defining design philosophy of 'easy to balance' you've de-evolved what you had started to achieve in D1 into a dumb, meaningless shooting gallery. As you can tell, i'm pissed off, but thats because there is so much promise in the original vision, but some dick head has made exactly all the wrong decisions about mission structures, game economies (i.e. none) LOOT (ubiquitous but facile) character progression, skill trees (i.e. none) and eviscerated the hope of a game which is now a fragmented mish mash of a mess revolving around tokens ffs. The world is fantastic so use it - all the nooks and crannies. Scale up adventures and lost sectors to heroic and epic with tonnes of enemies and themed LOOT for that location, timed, scoring, modifiers etc. Just give us interesting reasons to use ALL the fab locations. You have to find reasons to go back again and again. The lore is fantastic so put it in the f game, and wring it til its dry. All the grimoire, stories with the concept art etc. and start adding new lore back in again. Nedde a reason ro chase weapons and armour. If we cant have completely random weapon perks bcoz balance, maybe have 2 of 3 perks be fixed and the final perk be 1 of 5possible options, allowing a degree of player preference and promoting grinding but not making balance so difficult. Different guns have differemt fixed or random perks and can be more readily farmed in different places or activities so you discover as you play. Need meaningful stats or prefixes or set bonuses on armour to grind for, maybe health, recovery, armour, mobility, ammo, reload speed, skill regen etc We should be able to actively Mod weapon sites, magazines, barrels etc to affect handling, reload, damage vs range etc but make it an actual swapable mod. either Buy with money or preferably craft with consumables dropping from enemies, crucible matches, bounties, trees etc. Listen these are a few things off top of my angry head, but please start implementing rather than giving reasons why not coz i think most would rather have a game thats actually fun, interesting or meaningful rather than just easy to balance.

                  • Destiny still has never evolved further than TTK. With D2 probably being somewhere between Vanilla and TTK. With many aspects worse than Vanilla. You also need to make a complete game before you can monetize it. How about you explain how that happens.

                  • So basically near a month after you launch CoO.... Then what? Talk about all the stuff we wan't implemented to just ninja nerf the game behind the scenes? Until you get caught doing dirty deeds right?

                    • Tokens are Boring. 2 Primaries are Boring. Balance is Boring. Static Weapon Rolls are Boring. Slowing Super & Ability cooldowns is Boring. Deleting Hundreds of Shaders is Boring. Throttling XP/Doubling XP for Bright Engrams is Shady/Boring AF. Sticky Grenades in PVP being Non-Lethal... Boring AF. Seems like Activision Blizzard LLC told Bungie to make Destiny 2 Esports ready with game balancing + put anything asthetically pleasing behind a Paywall with hidden algorithms to make a profit, then ÷ the Player Base by staggering the PC release after the Console release = the Dumpster Fire we have today. Even Vanilla Destiny before Crota was more fun & interesting, Swordbearers on Earth before the DLC became live was amazing. Destiny 2.0 is a decimal point off, Destiny 0.2 feels more accurrate from it's predecessor.

                      • Please fix the tokens in the raid. I want weapons or armor. I constantly get the same drop from turning in tokens in. It super frustrating.
